One of the best definitions I ever read about Meshuggah. Their blend of Metal, avantgarde and Allan Holdsworth (thanks to Thordendal) is a cornerstone in modern music. They were able to make "popular" (well, they have millions wiews) such an incredibly complex and articulated formula.

And of course, the music is a marvel to behold when you watch it being manufactured right in front of you. It’s a guaranteed lifelong memory every single damn time. “First of all, we’re very sorry for creating that genre; we didn’t intend to - our bad. No, but it’s actually - I think it’s a misconception, that djent thing. I think it’s kind of hilarious,” explained rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström. “It’s our lead guitar player, Fredrik [Thordendal], being drunk back in the day, talking to one of our old-school fans, trying to explain what type of guitar tone we were always trying to get, and he was desperately trying to say, ‘We want that ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_.'” “And that guy was, like, ‘What’s he saying? Is that a Swedish word? Must be. Sounds like dj_, maybe ‘djent’? Maybe something like that.’ And that’s where it comes from. A drunk misunderstanding, as always with Meshuggah.” When asked in regards to what sort of music that Meshuggah do play, Hagström described their sound as “heavy, experimental music”. I LOVE THIS GUYS SO MUCH

Meshuggah was sitting in my music library for over 20 years - mostly unlistened. I always had the feeling there is something special to this music but never managed to dig below the surface. I finaly saw them live in Vienna this year for the first time - I can't get enough since! To say it with the words of bill burr - a truly life-altering experience.

I saw them on that tour as well. At the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA. It was incredible. Then saw them again at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA. I think Animals as Leaders opened up for them. The mix and overall clarity of the sound was the most impressive I've heard up to now. I recently saw them at the Palladium, in Hollywood, Ca. Unfortunately, the sound was horrible. I don't understand how that happens. I was so disappointed at the quality of the mix... But God do I love this band!
