"Marooned" is another one of David Gilmour's and Rick Wright's timeless songs. It was a statement that Pink Floyd could continue without Roger Waters. The sound was reminiscent of their legendary performances, where all emotions were let loose. When "The Division Bell" was released, I couldn't afford the vinyl, so I bought the cassette tape, which still had amazing analog quality. That evening, my perspective on life changed. I remember it like it was yesterday. I knew Pink Floyd was recording a new album, but I couldn't believe how incredible this song was! It's still one of my favorites, even after 30 years. Time flies by quickly. David Gilmour's talent is out of this world, he's just one of a kind. Cheers and thank you, Stacey! You took me back in time since I have not heard it for a while. Sometimes the best things are not for everyday! Again, thank you!

It is the town Pripyat 3 km from Chernobyl that people were evacuated from a couple of days after the accident on april 26th 1986. Nature has reclaimed a part of the area and some roads. Buildings are falling apart due to the lack of maintainence . I was 15 at the time. This video also makes me emotional. I enjoy watching your reaction videos.

Hi if you’re from that area I’m sorry for the loss of life of many people. I was a teen when this happened and I saw many sick kids that were placed in Cuba and hospitalized in Havana. I turned 65 years old a few days ago. It is good to see you in tears in 2024 listening to my favorite band from the time I reached 17 years old. This is not music that will ever be obsolete or old. This band has carried me though so many years and I hope to be listening to "Sorrow" live when I pass on. (eta: and Comfortably Numb, if there's time!)

Also this is the abandoned city of Pripyat, Ukraine, where the Chernobyl nuclear station was. AFAIK it's the real place, it's not immediately life threatening to go there (if you don't overstay) and people have been known to go there and film. Hell, Top Gear did it. Loved how little time this one took to take you to tears haha

Another comment, sorry. You might want to look up some of the longer interviews on youtube with Gilmour. Watch the long ones. You get to feel what kind of a person David is. The interviews of Richard Wright and Nick Mason, and even Roger Waters, are all good to watch. But Gilmour reminds me so much of my dad....a kind of modest, intelligent and gifted person. My mom and dad are gone, as Dad left us in 2019, mom earlier. Both of them really enjoyed the album Dark Side of the Moon, which I played one stormy night when the electricity went. We gathered in the den, with a fire, to wait it out. I had a "boom box" and slipped in the cassette. My parents were both mesmerized. It's one of my favorite memories, and no words were necessary.

In 1973, after Dark Side of the Moon was released, all four members of Pink Floyd became notorious for not giving interviews. This continued all the way until the late 1980's when each one started talking to the press again, mostly regarding Roger Waters leaving the band. Even though there was no Pink Floyd release in 1978, it was still a pivotal year. David, Rick and Nick would all three release solo albums while Roger was developing what would become the Wall. What is obvious when listening to the first David GIlmour solo album and Rick Wrights Wet Dream as well as the Wall is that with the gigantic success they had reached, each man was incredibly isolated. I would like to recommend you react to David Gilmour's "There's No Way Out of Here".

Gilmour is the Exalted Master of emotionally charged guitar playing. Richard's contribution to this is as great as David's. The main theme as stated by the piano part, is unquestionably Richard's. Think "Us and Them." David takes off from Richard's melancholy chords and blasts it into the stratosphere. That sounds to me like Peak Floyd.

As someone who grew up with Floyd at the perfect time, (a teen in the 70’s) I’ve always been a fan of Roger Waters to this day. His recent Tours I’ve attended are similarly massive and as impressive as David, Rick and Nick’s Tours were after Roger left. Sat front row center for The Pulse Tour and will happily take issue with the purists who have disrespected the later albums produced without Roger. Momentary Lapse, Delicate Sound, Divisions Bell, while not Dark Side, Wish and The Wall, are no less impressive and musically important to The Pink Floyd Catalog. Their consistency of the highest quality of music over these many yrs remains astonishing. Marooned is a perfect example…..✨

David and Rick playing together is pure magic. Their music makes you feel things there are no words for. That's why we are speachless. They are actuallya live show of this song. Pretty awsome

This song always hits right in my heart. I were listening to this song when my mother came into my room telling me that my best friend since kindergarden were dead, ever since that day this song always reminds me of that day and of him. Check this song out when David played it during the 50TH fender anniversary, that is the performance i listened to during that moment.

Something cool to know about this solo - He's using a whammy pedal which allows him to transpose his notes a whole octave above by pushing on a pedal which is why he's getting such high pitched notes

It's actually the town of pripyat evacuated because of Chernobyl. They evacuated 70 to 80,000 people overnight! This song really does make you feel like you're in space!

This song is like a place of limbo. You just don't know if you're leaving or arriving. Humanity.

Perfectly described! I did a psycedelic mushroom trip and I had just found this gem of a song in the vast library of PF songs and thought it would fit my first ever psycedelic experience and boy did it work well.well.When the song gets going I was litterally "marooned" in another plain of conciousness.so therapeutic and awesome experience that lasted 4 hours.I listend to 2 PF albums.incredible spiritual awakening I had with pcilocybin mushrooms :D

1986. And the town you are seeing is Pripyat.

This is one of the most unique Pink Floyd songs imo and you feel David’s guitar especially emotional in "Marooned"! Yeah, the second part of the video was filmed in Pripyat, the city close to the nuclear power plant in Tschernobyl. Such a sad fait the people there had to go through back in 1986. Another Pink Floyd suggestion of mine would be "Poles Apart", which is the song that is listed directly before "Marooned" on the Division Bell album. "Poles Apart" is so atmospheric and has one of the most beautiful and guitar solos in the end of the song imo! 🙏🏼🫶🏼🥹🎸

Great pick: Richard Wright and Nick Mason are also part of why David Gilmour's guitars shine and stand out on this track! If I'm not mistaken, I think this song won Pink Floyd its only Grammy. There's a guitarist, Steve Rothery, from the band Marillion (himself a fan of David Gilmour) whose solo album Pripyat (named after the town near Chernobyl) is also quite powerful!

Good, deep felt reaction, Stacey. I completely agree with you-----David is one of a kind; there will never be a guitarist like him again. Two other wonderful songs from this great Division Bell album: Wearing The Inside Out and Poles Apart. Keep up the great work you're doing with this deep Pink Floyd dive.
