The video was filmed in February and April 2024 at the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens. I was able to catch very interesting footage of the lemurs making calls. They are absolutely fascinating. I wish the zoo could add more trees to their enclosures.

Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur
Varecia variegata
Habitat: eastern Madagascar
Life span: average 19 years in the wild
IUCN Red List: Critically Endangered
Black-and-white ruffed lemurs are also known as the world's largest pollinators for their distinctive white ruff around their necks. When alarmed, they produce a deep, barking call, and when defending their territory, they emit a wailing howl. They are frugivorous and arboreal. They are diurnal and primarily active during the day, especially in the morning and late afternoon. The females are so unique in making a nest for their babies and in leaving them on the nest while foraging.
