You know, i grew up casually hearing so many bands and songs that i just did not appreciate anywhere near enough, and didnt realize it until my 30's. Sooo much music just in the 70's and 80's alone with such depth and such genius and dynamics baked in, that is soooo easy to miss, if you are just a "casual" listener. I have since repented of that sin, and now study music at a deeper level. Its like a magical force in this world, for real. 🎉

Brilliant playing to a difficult number. Loved how you added the ride bell to the main beat. Many drummers say that Stewart used to add stuff in studio and layer it on the track. You actually could do all this and more. Many congratulations to you on playing such a lovely piece. The fact that you have not taken lessons and are self taught is amazing. Best of luck with your God given talent.

Hi Vitotone! Thanks for the comment. I generally spend alot of time figuring out a song by ear. I have a fairly long commute back and forth to work so I listen to a song over and over in my car while keeping time on the steering wheel. Once I get the song tattood in my brain, I'll take it to the kit. For difficult fills, I sometimes slow the mp3 down in a sound editing program like Audacity to figure out what the drummer's doing. I don't use charts and have never taken lessons.

Guitar player here. I had listened to this song probably a hundred times but never had paid attention to the drums. A couple of days ago I got spontaneously hooked by the toms part and the drum kick before the middle of the song 0:59. Had to come to YT and find this masterpiece. Looks and feels like a super fun song to play in drums. Makes me so jealous of drum players!

Brilliant, really well played Domenic. Really got all the little sounds in there. I heard on the album version they used 2 separate drum tracks (but haven't heard official confirmation - if someone knows the truth) and you did really well to incorporate all of the sounds and make it sound really good! Bravo!

Fabulous! Tight, smacking grooving beat. Your drum tuning, particularly the snare, kick and cymbals tones work so well with this tune. Love your hi-hat work. This is a tune I've been wanting to cover. Great job Domenic.

Why isnt anyone talking about the fact that this man played the toms too in the chorus? the toms were added as an overdub in the studio recording. i appreciate that! took things to a whole new level.

Thanks very much for the comment! I didn't realize the toms were an overdub. I thought it was just the ride cymbal!

Man, that was just INCREDIBLE.... This song has always intrigued me. I watched and listened to every beat and hit. You nailed this PERFECTLY! I had the pleasure of meeting Stewart Copeland a few years ago and I didn't even have the words to tell him how amazing I thought he is... Anyhow, congrats on performing this masterpiece beautifully!! -hartley

Domenic Nardone I agree. He always knows how much to give to the song in order to make it have an individual flourish. Yet at the same time he never gives too much like some other drummers. Truly a genius.
