Today I joined two friends at Messalonskee Lake in the Belgrade Lakes Chain. The bite was tough but I did manage to squeak out a few upgrades. Boy were they FOOTBALLS!

I love football bass! Some are so bulgy that they make me laugh. I like how you catch bass everywhere. I'm settled into five ponds. I just rotate through them.

I definitely have a few favorite spots, but exploring new water is what I really love to do. I'm not used to seeing Largemouth that look this footballish! Normally, it's the Smallmouth.

Have you ever fished the Richardson Lakes in Maine? Great campground at southern end, maybe 3 homes on the entire 15 mile length. Terrific fly fishing at the Rapid River at Middle Dam as well.

Yes.... that river went from grass to rock to emergent to bare sand to mud from deep to shallow.... etc. It had very little consistency. I need to fish it again in the fall when the big ones are feeding up.

@@OldLadyAngler I like the mouth of the stream near the last channel markers and around the heath peninsula. But you are right it is highly pressured

I could definitely tell that it's pressured. The fish would pick up the bait and drop it immediately.

Couple of nice bass there Tracy, when you use the mega speedworm. I'm had great success. Letting it drop mid column and slow rolling it. See if that works. Thanks for trying to baits. Hope to see more catches have been really tough down here. I would call that a great day. What you did compared to what we've been having down here. Look forward to the next video. Take care.

Thank you so much reach for another peaceful and action packed video today it just gets the blood pumping and be ready to engage with the world! I do have a question for you I’ve seen anglers gently release the bass back into the water and then you see the bass swim away then you see those anglers who release a couple of feet away from the water, now in the short or long scene of things is their any damage that will come upon the bass from tossing the bass or any fish back into the water like that? Thanks Gran. I've actually had to toss a fish or two several feet back into the water when I bank fish. I don't believe it does any harm to the small fish. Now.... if I was tossing a 5 pounder, I'd be worried about it. The bigger fish have a higher chance of getting injured but even those..... I don't feel like dropping them straight down into the water is doing any major damage. I personally enjoy watching the big ones swim away slowly.

Pickerel have a long black vertical line right under each eye. You can't miss it. Their coloring and pattern are different too.
