Great video! My very first Amp was the 2 pill version of this. I way over paid for it more than 30 years ago and it had an issue to boot. I was able to find the problem and fix it and ran it for many years off and on, I even loaned it to a friend years ago. About a year ago I finally passed it along to a friend who then passed it along to another friend who still talks on that thing. It works great and sounds great still. The only thing I did to it was upgrade the power wires because over the years they became very short. The messenger amps aren't real power house amps but I still did tell good on that 150 watts in skip way back in the early 90's. Good times and memories, your video brought me back to those days for just a few minutes there.

Yes sir...that is what it was I had already wrapped it around the coil and soldered it and was like oh crap lol so it isn't a must must by no means so I just left it need to spend another 30min just to put one bead on the wire lol

@@1883GotDown yeah I hear ya. Especially if the original wire didn't have any on it. Those messengers seem to run pretty clean anyways.

Great video! I installed a set of the HG MRF454's in my Messenger M800 (which I bought as a carcass, no transistors installed), and that amp is amazing. HG knocked it out of the park with these MRF454's, they put out great power and have been very durable. It's nice to see someone installing these MRF454's into some amps because I do think they are overlooked a bit as an alternative to the 2879's. Two thumbs up!

nice rebuild. I had a few of them come threw. stock was MRF 455 / SD 1446 . the one with 2879 that came in just burnt up . too much power and heat for that case. out put cap burned up. just getting too hot ! MRF 454 good pick for them. they run cool still . last one I used 4 green dot 454 matched set. also the input resistors burn up on that HML switch and some times traces break on relay board. you could use 2SC 2290 as well . I like the MRF 454 better. seem to run cooler. I got the bigger one. 1X8 MRF 455 . much bigger heat sink. it can work all day 500 watt. all i did was power wire and out put trimmer went bad and took out keying circuit. PTT RCA jack only. 73's

Oh I almost forgot to ask, most all other guys will put ferrite on the power wire inside the Amp. I have seen you also do that on other amps in side of your older videos. I'm curious why this one didn't get the ferrite? I didn't put any on my messenger either when I redid the power wires and it worked fine.

I'm going to rematch this video and tell you why I decided not yo on this one. I betcha I forgot lol it doesn't do a while lot with one bead it just a nice formality to do.... I'll see i betcha I soldered it to that copper coil then noticed I didn't do it and left it

@@1883GotDown gotcha. I look forward to seeing the next video. The few that I have done I try to get 2 or 3 beads on there or wrap the wire around at least once. I really do enjoy learning from your videos.
