Even though he may not fall back his main job is still to play forward and score which he does so he isn't nearly to blame. Marquinhos on the other hand was responsible for 2 of benzema's goal especially his 3rd where he just gave it to him. And I'd argue Messi wasn't even that bad since he tried to make assists a few times inside the box but no one was there to receive it and i even saw a close up clip of him shouting at his teammates fully angry to pass to him to no response. There is no leadership in PSG, not in the squad, Coaches or Higher Ups, they all want to decide who's in and out and who will play and who won't no matter how crappy the individual is playing that day. Michael Jordan as good as he was still needed 4 more to win all those Rings. Mbappe by himself will not win the UCL when you have Messi & Neymar hindering the Midfield. Oh and Messi & Neymar are still considered top 5 but they need to decide what position they want to play or what position is best for the team... part of the issues Messi had at Barca in the last couple of years and not necessarily because the team depended on him all the time. he had an avg 1st half. did alright kept the ball well popped soke decent passes through.. nothing more. verratti was better than him at controlling that 1st half. Messi would of been the 5th or 6th best player for psg in that half. 2nd half he was the 2nd worst player behind neymar. the two of them completely hid from the game. Messi even took himself to the right side and just slandering wandering all game. stopped running stopped asking for ball did nothing to help his team. psg become 9 men vs 11 and once paredes went off there was no control whatsoever in the centre and that's why they got overrun. it was pathetic from the pair of them (neymar and messi)
