My Dad's coax was mil-spec RG-214 compliments of Lockheed Aircraft Services scrap bin circa 1960's ish...lol😏👍🎙 Messi & Paolini does make excellent coax and connectors, I just purchased 100' of the Hyperflex 10 with connectors factory installed and tested with certificatation without regrets and would stand it up against ANY LMR branded garbage any day of the week!

great video. just did a GMRS repeater cite repair from spring storm. near buy lightning strike. repeater was still working just lost rainge. was LMR 500 installed . this is a multi use cite. FM station and 5G cell and some outher repeaters. replaced coax with serah 10 with N connectors. had them made and tested buy M & P. changed inline lightning arrestor . went with a better duplexer . TX/RX systems one. used. re tuned with nano VNA . jumpers in cabinet changed to M & P . The duplexer had BNC and N for antenna. serah 7 was used for 3 ft jumpers. PL 259 to BNC all made and tested buy M & P . even new AGM batteries .with the MFJ analyzer getting lower VSWR. under 1.2. on TX and 1.3 on RX. 5 mhz split. this on in of duplexer. when all done 20% more power to antenna. and even better coverage than ever before. I know some came from better duplexer. taking the end off the LMR the shield had corrasion from different metals on shield. M&p all copper shield. lower resistance as well . helps with low signal receive where some distortion can be hurd. A RF tech working at the cite told me it's the outher transmitters getting threw the LMR shield. They told me about M&P . all others at cite use hard line . now I am changing my shack from 9913 to M&P . 73;s

Yet to find a better connector than M&P's 259. Their coax is also at the top of the game in it's market. Your points in this video are right on the money. Some of us can't run kw's, good feedlines, antenna design and connectors matter. As you said every dB counts. It amazes me people will bitch about a few bucks on a connector then spend 5 grand on an amp.

I love these compression style connectors! The other advantage is the constant tension on shield vs just a crimp that can loosen up over time. I've seen this style on GPS units on construction equipment in the field.

Mike you are not wrong about the M&P coax i am using Ultraflex 10 superb coax, but the new PL259's i paused the video and check the UK price @ £6.95 each, and i would need 30 of them i think not, i did use quality PL259s designed for RG213 the only thing i had to do was slightly file out the internal diameter of the centre pin by 0.3 mm as M&P is 10.4mm diameter and rg213 is 10.1mm diameter, oh and i used the brown centre pl259s far better than the white centres, TBH if i could afford the new ones all 30 of them i would have them, the coax is likely even living close to the sea as i do last maybee 10 years or more, which as the majority of mine is piped underground is a big bonus, big improvement on reception too, i proved this by reaching a ZL station on 60m were i was using 100w (uk 60m limit),and he was using 15w eirp(ZL 60m limit), and @ 11319 miles confirmed qso pretty damm good i think, i recieved him ok likewise me reckon my coax did help, btw 9 bands all georgraphic zones confirmed,just 160m & 6m left plus 179 dxcc's confirmed :) :)

Hey Mike, I"m looking into running some feed lines. I'm running 65' out from the house and then about 50' up into the tree to hang an antenna. I'm looking at the Airborne 10 since it is direct burry (it will be in the conduit that is buried, but there still could be water in there). Should I run Airborne 10 all the way to my shack inside the house, or transition to another cable type when entering the home? Should I switch to something more flexible inside or just run Airborne 10 all the way to the radio? Right now, just focusing on HF.

I’d just run the Airborne 10 all the way personally. Although if you have a tuner or something else inline you could convert to something a little more flexible to your radio.

I don't see to much to gain here given all the extra pieces. The water proof is nice but I can use some 33+ which will work just as good with 400 cable and a solder on pl-259.

For those who still believe in fairy tales they can use the Evo connectors, for those who understand RF they will use the N type connectors! There is no comparison between the N type and the Evo, the N are clearly better! The PL259 connectors do not have the mechanical dimensions to reach 50 Ohm, so like all PLs they are suitable for uses up to 200MHz! This is the truth, the rest is merchandising!

While you aren't wrong as a general statement, it's not a fairy tale at all. Though I understand what you're getting at, you're still arguing the old PL-259, SO-239 UHF vs, N connector debate. Ok. That's Cool & The Gang. I get it. Yes, I think everyone knows N connectors are technically better than UHF, especially at higher (microwave) frequencies. That doesn't change the fact that (most) all HF, VHF/UHF radios have UHF female connectors. Save for a few certain operators, the EVO connector will outperform anything else they have used. But why belittle a company that has engineered, tested, manufactured, and marketed a UHF connector to be better at that? Never mind the fact that on the frequencies most hams use, let's say 1.8 - 450 mHz, the losses with a UHF connector are negligible. You'd be better suited with a coaxial cable that minimizes the attenuation you'd have between your radio and the antenna. Yes, connectors matter. And N connectors are "better". But for most use cases, the UHF is perfectly acceptable. And M&P made it even better. Absolutely love your comment though. The science behind all this stuff is purely fascinating to me. I really appreciate you watching this video and appreciate your insight.

Mikeyyy...I first used these Coax Plugs in 1995 already where no one even thought about Names like Messi & Paoloni yet. Same goes for their Coax Cable you praising it to be the Best in the World. Have you already tested all the Types & Brands of Coax existing? Am I allowed to laugh out loud...? The first Aircell Coax with Copper Tin Foil Shield inside came out on the Market I believe it was in 1993 or so. What the Marconi Dudes really did better was making this Coax to become more flexible to be perfect for using it on Rotating Antenna Systems. Your Signal is not going to be 1dB louder than mine just because you running italian made Spaghetti Coax even if you dip in hot Tabasco Sauce before plug it in. Just for the Fun to enjoy I bought me 60ft. of Paoloni's Messi Coax a few Weeks ago to run a Comparison Test between my 8 year old Aircell 7 and the brandnew Messi & Paoloni Edition. There's absolutely no difference to notice in cable loss, db gain, VSWR, REFSWR or anything else. Like I said the italian Coax is a little bit softer and more flexible if you use it with a Rotator System but that's already it. A remarkable Difference to me is what meets my Ear and not what a Nano VNA shows on it's display. Meaning, if this Cable makes my ears able to hear incoming signals which I cannot hear with any other Coax Cable on the Market and it makes my outgoing Signal 1S-Unit louder across the Pond as usual then and only then I might throw all my old Coax out of the Window to making Amore Mio with Marconi & Pavarotti Lead. Hi I'm one of the Marconi dudes :) First of all, thank you for trying our Ultraflex 7, and trusting us. Also the appreciation for the undeniable better flexibility of our cable, compared to the competition. Hitting a cable like Aircell 7 in the field is not for everyone, and when we designed our Ultraflex 7, we knew we had to give more in various aspects. Our task was not to make a clone, but an evolution of successful existing products in Germany. First of all the greater flexibility and resistance to torsion, which stresses so much the cables connected to antennas with rotor. For this reason our braid is made with 24 spool braiding machines, instead of 16 spools of the competition, and having 50% more crossovers, it is resilient, and this allows us to call it "reactive braid", as it acts like a spring. . When the organizing committee of the WRTC 2018 in Germany, tested and approved our Ultraflex 7, as official cable, they pointed out that above 28 MHz, it was better in progression than the historic RG 213 cable, (10.3 mm / .403 "), instead of 7.3 mm (.287 ") of Ultraflex 7 In tests the ULTRAFLEX 7 turned out to be the best compromise existing in the size-performance ratio and was therefore selected. Same thing for WRTC 2022 in Italy where again the Ultraflex 7 model will honor the Radiosport inaugurated by Marconi. At low frequencies, the differences between cables can be very difficult to detect, especially if the sections are short, and the attenuations are so low that they are superimposed by the error factor of the detection instrument (the VNA). (the cheaper it is, the greater the error factor and vice versa for professional tools). I think it is more than correct to say that on a 60-foot section it is difficult to see a noticeable difference, especially if the frequency of use is low. However, there would be a remarkable difference if the cable being compared was an RG8 or RG 213, especially in reception, and for background noise reduction. Where the frequencies rise, the differences between the cables begin to be more noticeable, and the greater the length of the lines, the easier it is to notice them. If our cables weren't better, we might not have been so successful in Germany earlier and throughout Europe thereafter. Our company dates back to 1946, we have been manufacturing cables since 1974 and in 1985, we began to produce anonymously, (OEM), cables for a German distributor who is still one of our strongest customers (but now distributes under our brand). The German market is therefore our most important market, and producing a worthy standard for this market means having what it takes, across the board. When they asked us to produce alternatives to the two most famous cables in Germany, we knew we had to evolve them, surpass them in order to have a chance of success on famous and well-reputed cables. We were able to do this thanks to the advice and field tests of DXing teams, and our great affinity with the amateur radio world. It is not just a question of generosity towards radio amateurs, or a subtle advertising strategy. DXing teams are our best beta testers in the field and we value their feedback to constantly improve our products. The protagonists of the very expensive expedition from Bouvet Island, or Crozet Island, trust from direct experience on our products in extreme situations, it is the proof that our products are evolutions of the cable species. After all, cables resemble spaghetti, and who better than Italians can improve spaghetti? :) Returning to the connectors: even in Italy when we started they only knew the PL259 Amphenol as the best solution, a project from the 40's .. For us the best solution was instead the N connector. Having to design something new we were inspired by the "N" connector project, perfecting previous projects and wanting to provide the best for the users of our cables .... We think we have succeeded!
