Very well played. Is this a youth orchestra? Everyone looks so young! I heard Thibaudet and Hartmann-Claverie play this in Seattle earlier this year, and it was phenomenal. This is a real crowd pleaser. I wish they would program more 20th century music (especially Messiaen).

Verbier Festival 2009. I was there! What a thrill it was to hear this music live with Charles Dutoit and the young players ot the Verbier Festival Orchestra plus two great soloists!

This work does something I don't know from any other piece - it combines drama and majesty with exquisite bad taste.

How is there bad taste?

@@theorymaster6310 To me, I think it sometimes mocks as a god might, giving us the raspberries in one moment and then showing us extreme beauty in another, and laughing at us and daring us to laugh too or be devastated. It is wonderful and terrible and alien and joyous. I love it above all other works.

haha it is a guilty pleasure of mine. I can't remember if it was Stravinsky or another famous composer who said something about how writing such a work just takes a lot of ink. I still love the piece, even if it is self indulgent and sort of ridiculous.
