Always check the old filter seals to ensure they came off with the filter. Have seen a few times where the gasket stuck to the block and someone added a new filter and was unable to get a seal.

Thank you Neal, appreciate the tutorial :-) on the 50 hour maintenance. I have a 3301L Series and did my initial maintenance myself as well. You mentioned that Kubota places the filters on at the factory and then paints over them when painting the engine, etc. I found this out after breaking at least one filter extractor trying to get one of the filters off. From what I learned, it helps (a lot) if you take a knife (box cutter) and go around the seal between the engine and filter to cut the dried paint between the filter and engine before you attempt to take off the filter. This will save you a lot of grief, broken extractors and mangled filters. Cheers!

I'm a relatively new tractor owner, one year in with my BX and always look forward to your videos. Although this is a different machine, I wish it existed before I did my 50 hrs in March. I just learnt about the safety filter, searched and found you had another video 5 years ago with a BX in it. Kubota, and pretty much all dealers, don't do a great job at this and you really fill in alot of gaps they leave in your videos. Wish you guys had a Canadian outlet, as I'd love to support your business with parts as you've helped me a lot the past year.

Great maintenance tips! I tried the shop vac on the transmission fill. Vacuum was too strong and pulled oil into the shop vac when I removed the filter. What a mess! I’ve heard plugging the vent tube with a small philips screwdriver helps keep the oil from running out so fast. Haven’t tried it yet… no more shop vac!

Don't forget the wire mesh screen in the left side of the transmission, that gets missed a lot, and you'll probably find it quite dirty due to all the metal that circulates through these things during the initial break in. I'm 7 hours away from the 50 hour service on my BX...I think I have everything I need, might have to pickup another jug of oil and hydraulic oil though as I'm going to be changing the front axle oil as well, and changing the hydrostatic/hydraulic fluid too...which by the way the manual does say to change it at 50 hours unlike many people say, the book says change it...for the cost its a good idea, you want to get all that break in gunk out of the engine and hydraulic system.

Another great video !!! I just performed 300 hr change of transmission/hydraulic fluid. I was able able to use UDT fluid since it is an antique with dry type clutch. Also did engine oil change while at it. It was on my Kubota L285 !! Yes, Kubota L285 !!! 😁😁 My father in law was the original owner and was purchased in May 1977. Great little tractor !!!!

As a service tech my advice is to never tighten the new filter with the wrench only use it to take it off. It’s very easy to over do it and now you’ll be in a world of hurt when you have to change it out.
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Most filters will tell you to tighten 1/2 to 1-turn after the gasket makes contact. With a cup-style filter wrench you can very easily index your ratchet handle and precisely tighten the filter the required amount without leaving any marks on the filter. This is especially helpful when your hands are oily and it's difficult to get a good grip on the new filter.

For the way he changed those hydraulic filters, no way you can do it by hand. Just too much oil, and it will slip. A tool just makes it easier, if you understand not to over tighten.
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 2 жыл бұрын
@@arthurr8670 For me, using a cap style wrench to tighten is more accurate than using your hand. Rotate the ratchet handle to 12 o'clock, tighten to 6 o'clock and it's a perfect half turn. With oily hands it's sometime difficult to keep track of how much you've tightened it, especially for high pressure spin-on fuel filters that require a full turn of tightening.

I completed the 50 hour service on my LX2610 back in November. Great overview for those needing to perform this service. Also, you don't need the vaccum trick for the HST filter, but it sure helps for the suction filter. 50 hrs is also a good time to check the torque on your loader frame mount bolts as well as your mid-mount mower mount bolts (if equipped).

That tractor is quite muddy. It's always good practice to wash off the machine prior to any service. This helps prevent dirt and debris from dropping into places you don't want it when pouring in oil and changing filters.

Shop vac trick does work. When I did the B2601 I didn't loose much other than what the old filters had in them. Used less than 1/2 quart to refill. Mid summer I will have 200 hr service, surprised only the HST filter gets changed the hydraulic stays If I'm reading book correct.

7 hours from my 50 hour service on my BX2680. I'll be doing all the fluids and the hydraulic/hydrostatic fluid as well...also will be removing the hydrostatic filter screen as well and cleaning it. Lots of stuff to do, or so it seems, but honestly doesn't look too bad. Bought the fuel filters as well so I'll replace those while I'm doing all the other stuff too. I picked up the UDT2 hydro fluid as well.

Oil and filters are cheaper than Parts. I've tried the others and never been happy. I tried a national brand hydraulic fluid in my L35 and the hydraulic clutch didn't engage quickly enough. Flow wasn't correct, had slow hydraulics. So I had to drain the fluid and install UDT. Change fluid twice yearly on GR 2100 transmission eventually plan on putting bearing kit in it but haven't needed to so far. Never used anything but UDT and original Kubota filters since purchased new. . It's just worth it for the peace of mind. You don't have to guess if it's going to get you back to work, it will!

I ALWAYS use OEM for anything not an accessory(boxblade etc.), and follow recommended service intervals, because if anything goes wrong I don't want to hear any excuses of "well it broke because it's not our replacement part". Plus I've found over the years that OEM usually is the best quality. There is a reason why that original exhaust system on your car lasted 10yrs, but the replacement one only lasted 5yrs. The savings may not actually be a savings in the long run.
