I dunno, i feel like season 2 hit harder on the issues of farming struggles 🤷‍♀️ like season 1 we know no matter what clarkson is gonna be fine. This introduced neighbor farmers who live or die on the success of their farms and seeing Clarkson really step up on their behalf was a change within him I didn't see coming.

My parents were farmers and the nightmares they had with the Government regulations was enormous, even transporting animals you need so many bits of paper authorising you to do it. I do not know much about American farming regulations but here in the UK sometimes it feels like you need to have a permit from the Government and local councils to even fart.

As an ex pat living in Ohio i love this show. i grew up in a farming community and gradually watched as the farms were sold one by one and became housing developments. They do not want farms in the U.K. I noticed that the people in the meeting were not at all diversified , however if Jeremy sells his farm and it becomes a low income housing project they will really have something to whine about.

3 point linkeage is the preferred method here in the UK. Ww have smaller roads than you guys so getting equipment between the fields is more complicated, as shown when he meets a bus coming the other way. The battle with the local council is very real unfortunately. Brexit has left lots of farmers in a very exposed situation and the govt have not helped. Diversification is in some cases the only way out. I grew up.on a dairy farm and my daughtet and her partner ( his family milk 170 cows) are dairy farmers so i am quite close to the ag industry and see their struggles. Clarkson shinning a light on this has been a massive benefit to farmers in the UK and beyond. I get the fact that it may have dominated the latter stages of this season but i dont think it took anything away from it. Oh can i ask what you make of Gerald?

From the show, it seemed that, for the most part, there are no hard and fast written rules that one can follow and be compliant. An example is the farm track he built. Cheerful Charlie said he never heard of one being turned down, but apparently the decision can be made on a case-by-case basis. Is that really the situation?

@@freecycling6687 unfortunately it is. They are a collection of NIMBY'S or not in my back yard people. They like electricity and gas, they like food and drink, just not produced around them. Clarkson's R8.270 is actually 270 HP, but It probably got down to 250 over the years. It's also a rebadged Deutz Fahr X720. The thing with the 6 Meter equipment usually being pulled and not 3-point mounted, is not that true for my region. Due to the tight spaces, it's better too have it on the 3-point and then balance it out with a weight instead of having it as a trailer. Foldable equipment usually is between 3 and 6 meters as 3m is the max legal width for many places in Europe, and 4m in hight. Meaning that you can split the 6m and still have a meter of space. We rarely get 6m equipment at work, but it doesn't have road wheels or transport when we do get it.

You got it! I just finished a long response saying the same thing. Neil lives in a different world than where Clarkson's Farm is located. And Jeremy was looking over Kaleb's new New Holland T7-210 early in the second season saying it was the same size as Jeremy's Lambo. Jeremy's Lambo granted has a little more power but its a 7.1 l vs 6.7 on the New Holland. I can't believe Neil thinks the little MF at the beginning of the first series was large enough for 1,000 acres - UK or USA

The restaurant fight is legit listening to those other farmers struggles - the lady losing half her herd of dairy cows and yet only getting $0.26/l for milk was heart breaking she and the others had genuine issues and need the likes of Clarkson's restaurant to cut out the middle man profit gouging. Clarkson has stated he's loaded and its not an issue but those trying not to drown is the concern that councils should listen to and emphasize after all Charlie made it clear the goals of the council are to encourage economic activity to the community while also trying to seek balance with environment and the locals requests. Towns all over the world are dying due to lack of investment and innovation the youth leave for better job prospects and the main economic enterprises shutdown then the banks leave and then shops close and slowly just derelict buildings of a ghost town with those who cant or stubborn to move...

Peppa was the cow the owner's 7 year old daughter was fond of and likely was sad they sold. Clarkson’s Farm should be required viewing for every American! Not only to demonstrate just how much we should appreciate and value our farmers in their most noble of professions, but to also clearly show the devastating result of excessive governmental intervention. America is headed in the same direction if we aren’t careful and start acting now. I’ve been to England, it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen, with so many warm and friendly people. But their governmental overreach is ruining the country. It wiped out their once thriving auto industry, is farming next? Watch and learn America.

The discs you think are 30ft are only 18ft the discs are 6 meters not 10 meters In the UK 6m discs are pretty much always mounted you just use a front weight. Trailed equipment is unnecessary when it can be carried on the tractor. Think about the size of UK roads trailed is a pain on the road. In the UK we use mounted implements in the UK mostly up too 6 metres

I will chime in with my opinion Neil. I watched season one and like you was taken with the hardships of policy versus the small to midsized farmer. I had no clue. I am medically retired from the Army and have physical issues and watching this show with the use of tractors and tools for work around the farm actually was a huge factor in my purchase of my sub-compact Kubota a couple months ago. I still think the show in season two was very entertaining which in the end is why shows are made. I thought the lightbulb ideas on ways to circumvent the politics (meaning of word = Poli-Many Tics-Blood sucking parasites) was not only entertaining but potential ways to keeps farms viable. Personally I would much rather go to a farm with less posh atmosphere and farm to table than to go to some restaurant that has GMO and frozen products being mass produced and sent all over the world. I do thank you for all the information on your channel.

The aspects related to planning are true. There is terrible ignorance in planning committees; the decision takers are local councillors (the lowest they're of local electoral democracy) who vote having listened to the applicant and then the council planning officer. They usually can't be bothered reading the details of the application, or review planning law. They tend to side with the planning officers.

Expensive is in his cars, and he does also repair his buildings quite well - after thorough analysis whether it would pay. But the fancy Lambo he bought in Season 1 - I don't remember them saying it was a well used tractor that had been cleaned and polished to make it look new. That model was built from 2009 to 2012 so was at least 10 years old when Jeremy bought it. The vertical tillage implement he crashed into the power pole Season 2 - a demo, not his, so he resorted to his old Kvernland cultivator.

I have watched most of Jeremy Clarkson's shows (Top Gear, the Grand Tour, Clarkson's Farm). Yes he is crude at times (most in a humous way). I have watched both seasons of the Clarkson's Farm (I actually watched 2nd season before watching this video). I found, personally, that this season he showed a softer side of himself; and I actually liked it better. I'm not sure how much is staged or not staged (I'm sure the awards were not), nor the planning board decisions, but not having the weight on the fron of his tractor, I'm sure was, since he had one ready to put on. I think the fact he has brought awareness to the issues of farming in the UK is great. I'm sure many are the same here in the US. I do think he really loves farming. Luckily he has the financial backing to cover any issues he may run into (more so than most).

The problems Jeremy has faced with his planning approvals are typical of what local farmers have faced with their diversification, a govt initiative to help farmers that is not being aided by local authorities staffed by "former city dwellers" who don't appreciate what life is actually like for the locals, and frankly, don't really care.

You really need to visit Europe more often. Much of the equipment you would consider drawbar pulled in America are 3 point. In fact in my 20 years living in Europe, I never saw a ground drawn implement on the highway - only on small farms. Look at Kubota's own videos and pictures - M7s with 5 bottom fully mounted one-way or turn-over plows, the equivalent of 10 bottom weight in America. Extremely heavy weight boxes on the front, a major reason for having front 3-point hitch. Jeremy's cultivator at the start - latest and properly sized for his tractor - with the front weight box. In fact now farming in the USA Midwest during my retirement, I'm seeing America catching up to Europe. Remember, also, that Jeremy introduced Kaleb's new tractor, a NH T7-210, stating it's equivalent to Jeremy's old used Lambo (a Deutz-Fahr company). Dah - I farm fewer than Clarkson's 1,000 acres and that's my tractor size. Please apologize for me being so stupid as to buy that tractor for such a small farm.

Clarkson's Farm S2 may not be as interesting and entertaining for you, Neil, because it doesn't focus on equipment as much as S1. However the show is a crucial connection for the average Joe that has no idea what farmers have to deal with. The show is based in England so some rules & regs are different but it drives home the idea that farming is not just feed the animals, plant the seeds, and your a magic farmer. Like he said at the end the language can be a bit spicy. I wish they had a version that could run on cable so everyone could be exposed to a farmers' reality with a little bit of comedy mixed in.

Seems like they tried to calm things down a bit by not showing Jeremy going off on the local Council and village 'morons', and him trying to placate them. He went to war with the local government and got a first hand look at just how much the system is rigged and how much it takes to fight them. Something that is hurting not just farming. And that amount quoted in the show was just the first appeal, not even the full blown lawsuit after they have denied your appeal for the 3rd time..

The farm to table restaurant part was HUGE as the issues surrounding farmers were having was showcased by it. The fact the council refused it, put all those farmers on the back burner, so it was more of a screw you farmers, we want to see empty fields instead of a parking lot. In the end though, he found a way to work the loopholes and took full advantage of them and made them work. While Neil may have thought it was less to do with farming, the entire underlining issue was everything to do with farming. The Brexit losses, the TB losses, the factory pork and beef that makes it so locals can't compete, it all boiled down to whether or not Jeremy could get his restaurant in to help out the surrounding farmers. Honey, we have a pet cow.

I think they had to change it up, season one was a buffoon trying to learn to farm. By season 2, he was still a buffoon, but he wasn't learning, or at least not as much as he had 2 years under his belt. I enjoyed the change up, as it showed the other half of farming, making it sustainable. It showed far less actual farming, but it's for sure an aspect that needs to be shown. The show itself has a bunch of local farmers talking about how they are barely holding on and they are reliant on Jeremy to sell produce to. I will admit though, this season was less a farming show, and closer to a reality show that had farming in it.

Neil, I learned about this show from your original video. I'd seen it on Amazon video but having no idea what it was, kept passing it over until I saw your review. You were spot on in that video about the show, and that first season will never be duplicated, because everything in it was fresh and new. That said, I think for the second season, they had to do something a bit different, and I think they succeeded. It couldn't have just been more of the same, and it wasn't! Interestingly, we've started watching the 1st season again, and many of the things that were in the 2nd season were mentioned, albeit briefly, in the first - the shop roof, the car park, the badgers, etc. So in that sense the 2nd season was an expansion of many things from the 1st. (And IMO, the whole season should serve as a warning to us NOT to let that kind of "rule by man" take a firm hold here as it seems to have there.)

Jeremy Clarkson has probably brought more awareness and attention to the plight of farmers, at least in the west, than any other contemporary factor. Not since Willie Nelson's "Farm Aid" has interest in American farming pushed the meter beyond the occasional news article. Clarkson is not even American but his show has spiked interest in farm content KZbin channels. I mean, I'm an old codger here for the first time. A generation of Americans addicted to TikTok and who can't go five minutes without posting a selfie to their social media wall think their food magically appears in grocery stores, beyond that, reality is like the nebulous edge of a video game map. Thanks to Clarkson for taking on the narcissistic WODC who seem to only care only about their dark skies and pristine views while their farming neighbors struggle to survive. They enjoy the fruit of the tree while cursing it's roots. I think it was C.S. Lewis who imagined that it would be these people who will populate Hell in endless mazes of dirty shanties and empty warehouses receding infinitely into permanent gloom, incessantly bickering and fighting for rights of self until the soul, collapsing in on itself, ceases to exist. Much more frightening than the prospect of flames. Anyway...back to the joy of farming! I've always been a Massey man myself. Excellent transmissions for the small mountain farms where I live.

I think the focus in this series was more indicative of the challenges facing farming communities in the UK. Perhaps not as 'agri' dedicated as series 1 from a tractors and implements angle but that was only going to go so far. The content here is in fact more typical of Clarkson's approach to presentation which is much more human focussed than the factual subject based presentation that you often find elsewhere. It's why the appeal is so broad. The struggle to find a diversification plan that works for a farm is real, to then have that squashed at the first hurdle by the council is sadly indicative of the power of narrow minded, frequently retiree-from-the-city 'community groups' and easily manipulated councils up and down the UK. I do think there have been huge issues locally due to the demand for the shop and restaurant, the councils decision to deny proper car parking and traffic management just compounds it though. It's seriously hard to consider a whole new venture to support your business when you and your family are already pedalling as hard as you can trying to keep the current one afloat. The missed opportunity for local employment and support to numerous other farms businesses was mentioned but should be focussed on more too. That farm shop and restaurant together could support more employment than most other businesses in their community I suspect. I really hope series 3 shows some movement in the right direction for them.

I prefer season 1 to season 2, just because there were a few plot threads left dangling in season 2; did the council retaliate against the restaurant? What happened to the echium they planted? Ok Neal thank you for turning me onto this show I have binge watched it and find it interesting and the take on the second season is wrong in my opinion I hope I haven’t offended you but please let me explain Like all other farmers are struggling to pay their bills and looking for ways desperately to be more financially independent from subsidies and all of the red tape that government puts up in road blocks is unbelievable and it’s not just in Britain it’s in the United States also so yes he has caused some of his own problems with his fame and the attention he has brought to the area and possibly how he has gone about some projects but many farmers have done similar things starting new projects on their farms ruffling the feathers of country commissioner’s. This is a realistic example I think with some exaggeration for the cameras I am sure

Benge watched season 2. Owning a small operation and the gentrification of the agriculture community I tell others accept change. New methods and techniques with new models and making things more efficient are a plus, I understand the costs involved its tough and margins are slim and sometimes it's just not economically feasible. Ok back on track, i thought season 2 was entertaining, and hope there will be a season 3.

First season was funny but I thought the second season was much more genuine and he seems like he is really embracing farming, and shining a much needed light on the issues farmers everywhere are facing today. I've heard Amazon is going to cancel all the shows related to Jeremy Clarkson because he said something 'offensive' which is a shame.

Love the show, obviously different being rich and starting a farm and filming it but it at least gives regular people an idea how expensive and hard to make money farming. But I would go crazy having to deal with the morons on that council.

I felt the second season was more to the struggles that farmers are having with the Govt. yes the restaurant didn't seem to be geared to farming directly but it was. all farmers in the UK are being told in order to compete with the EU after Brexit you have to diversify. the problem is the local Govt. doest give them permission to do so. they can't just do it like we do here. I actually take to farmers over there and its not just jeramy its all of them. the stupid badgers for one thing. look at the dairy farmer that has lost half the herd to TB. I talk to that dairy farmer quite regularly and its terrible what the govt. has done to them for some ground hog like animal that's killing there cows. if it where not for Clarkson nobody in the world would know what's going on.. plus it is coming here to the USA it really is. slowly but surely they are regulating things that don't need to be regulated.

As an equipment seller maybe it wasn't that relevant. As a person that likes to eat and cares about environmental issues (real ones, like shortening supply chains where it makes sense), if possible I liked it even more, or at least as much as 1st season. I also understand the struggles with the council, I grew up in a shitty village where people were selfish and petty, including local politicians. They still are, no way in hell I'm ever gonna go back there. I like rural life and prefer it but often the people are pretty stupid, selfish, and mean.

At least here in Finland the fields are not that big and often scattered around. We don't need (and can not use) the big drawbar implements. Same with your big tractors with tripples, we don't have the roads needed.

He was really close to Pepe because the previous owner's daughter loved her, thatihe was reluctant to slaughter her. I think the council is just jelous, or sg like that. Clarkson wants to help the community and on himself of course.

After listened to a vid you made about a year ago and really liked, I clicked on this one (same day) but was shocked to hear that you've developed a vocal fry. If this is something to do with some health issue fair enough, but when I hear the young ones in particular deliberately put this on, I can't help wondering if they realize how ridiculous they sound.

I have enjoyed both seasons. I am a LONG time old Top Gear fan along with The Grand Tour and some of the boys other ventures. I was kind of surprised he fought so hard for the stationary restaurant and didn't go for something more up his previous alley, being a food truck. I do get that he wanted to capture the difficulty of dealing with officials for a program. Maybe where he lives and farms is completely anti-food truck and doesn't allow them, but it seems a better and cheaper idea to get his food to the people, even in it's elevated chef fashion.

me as living in scotland have to say that i agree with many of ur points. the amount of restrictions shortages of supports do to brexit are a much bigger risk than it looks like. Mostly the second half of the season made me increadbly sad but i see such an imense value to adress this problem. It might didnt entertain me as well but for me as a normal who doesnt know much about farming this sad vibe gave me a clearer look of the ongoing problem the uk and (fingers crossed not) the wourld hase to deal with in comiing years. I love the show and i hope soooo bad the message gives an opener eye to many as it had to me.

You see what too much government intervention does to the farming industry. And if it is in the farming industry, it is in every aspect of life. I don't want to live that way and therefore they can keep it in Europe.

It sounds like you wanted the show to showcase American ag. Because the show represents UK ag and farming. As far as the language, the UK isn’t as offended by that’s usages of language. With the equipment you sell you’d think you would be more familiar with the UK. Maybe just watch the millennial farmer lol.

A key problem with Clarkson's Farm is that in Season 1 Jeremy is basically a surrogate for the audience which is what made it such a phenomenon. Season 2 had to be more scripted because Jeremy is no longer the audience surrogate thus it's harder to engage with. This makes it less "authentic". This problem will continue until they stop making more which may be much closer than we think.
