Meta Quest 3 Build v.65 has been released, and guess who decided to make a reappearance? The negotiation rate bug is back, baby! It's fluctuating from 2401 Mbps to 1729-1440 Mbps every 4-5 seconds. Now, I know some of you have had problems with versions 63 and 64 too, but now, "finally," I also get to rejoin the club! Hooray 😑... However, it's a lot less noticeable than it was pre v.62. At least we are getting full speed periodically, but the fluctuating speeds will still lead to some random frame drops. This time, though, we have proof of how it's supposed to work, without people blaming us for having "too high expectations." I'm guessing Meta will patch it back up as long as people use the "report a problem" function.

It just stopped working for me randomly today with Archer AX90 | AX6600. And now I can't connect to my Wi-Fi anymore. It doesn't see 5 GHz-2 network at all and can't connect to 5 GHz-1 with correct password. I have no idea what happenned. Tried rebooting everything several times, changing password, etc. All other devices work fine.

Im happy they fixed it, but I am still annoyed by the way they treated my support tickes, chat and e-mail. They avoided the issue completely, treated me like a dumb child and only resorted to 'try restarting your router' answers and asking me if i want a replacement model. Why is it so hard for companies to be honest, admit to internal struggles and simply involve us. Gosh, customer support can be so annoying.
@xerowolf42429 ай бұрын
Yep. All they needed to do from the beginning was probably just to tell you "hey, we're very sorry about this. We realize this is a problem and we are working on trying to fix it but it could take some time before a patch comes out in a new update." and that would be a far better response than treating you like a 5 year old and telling you to restart your router which you probably already did long before deciding to call them. lol

thanks for documenting the issue for everyone! I had fluctuating connection speeds with v60 and after updating to v62, I've enjoyed a stable 833MHz up/down (which appears to be the max speed with my 802.11ac / 5GHz / 80MHz connection. I recently built a new rig based on a Ryzen 7 7800X3D & RTX 4070 platform, so I wanted to push the limits of my PC and see if the WLAN could keep up. Setting VD to Ultra / 72fps* / 200Mbps / SSW disabled / VDXR / AVI 10-bit, I managed to enjoy several games with the ocasional stutter (network-related latency every time). This was ok for everything except for Beat Saber - even with a stutter only occuring once or twice in a 3min song is enough to mess up the score. *I'm one of those that doesn't need 144Hz+ refresh rate and have been quite happy with anything above 60Hz ... ymmv 😉 Thus I will look into upgrading my WLAN - either via a WiFI 6 Extender (€) or going with a "modest" 6/ 6E Router (€€). Regarding a router; There appears to be two paths to follow; either sticking to 5GHz (4x4 160MHz for 4804Mbps - example, "Archer AX72 Pro") or splitting it up between 5 & 6GHz (2x2 160MHz for 2402Mbps in each band - example, your Archer AXE75). I'm not certain if 4804Mbps will ever be needed (not to mention it will certainly require DFS channels) and there is an arguement for 6GHz as I would be the only person in my building using 6GHz, which is still in the "enthusiast" sector and not used by the typical household. My only concern is all the comments below from posters that are having issues with 6GHz... (naturally they can fall back to 5GHz with a Router like the AXE75 which offers 2402Mbps in BOTH bands). Recommendations are most welcome 🤗 Last but not least, a few screens (assuming I'm allowed to post links here...): 1. Regarding the Quest 3 taking a long time to connect to a 6e router, I was experiencing this with my AXE75. It would often take minutes. But I learned from a reddit post that enabling 2.4 and 5 wifi modes (I only had wifi 6 enabled) on the router makes the Quest 3 connect to the router (via 6e) much faster. And this worked for me.

I was hoping i could wait until wifi 7 routers are a bit more common and affordable.
@JeffreyBlakeney9 ай бұрын
Good to hear that it is working for you now. Another difference in our setups is that you have over 10 times the users on your router than I have on my 5 GHz router. I have myself and my room mate using my router and still have to reset it about once a month because it gets messed up. The more concurrent users, the more likely the router won't have time to deal with everyone at full speed. I have been ill on and off the past month while still being busy so haven't had a chance to set up my 6 GHz router yet but I'm hoping it will solve the little lag spikes I was getting from time to time on fast moving graphics.
@MrTeeF9 ай бұрын

I remember setting up my TP AX1500 at the beginning of this year, my router sits on my desk while i game and i would notice it often dropped from 1201mbps to maybe 900, sometimes even less. @MrTeeF9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the confidence. But wired sound is always preferable in VR, as just milliseconds of delay can cause disorientation. No amount of bluetooth latency there can fix it 100% with todays tech. Just try running speakersound simultaneously as bluetooth on your TV. You have to as artificial delay the image to match it, which isn't an option in VR. So prioritizing Bluetooth speed to the controllers is preferable, which by the way is also not good enough right now. ;)

@MrTeeF How do you can >1Gbps speeds on that router (AXE75). I wanted to buy it at first for PC-VR streaming, but then I saw it only has 1Gbps LAN and WAN ports... That means that a wired PC can not get higher then 1Gbps connection to the headset. Sure the headset has 2,5Gbps connectivity, but the actually stream to the PC would get bottle-necked by the AXE75's network ports correct? Can you confirm your indeed limited to 1Gbps PC connection, if not, how did you solve it? Link aggregation?
@MrTeeFАй бұрын
Yes, like most common routers, the AXE75 has 1 Gbps LAN ports. You have to make a significantly bigger investment to get lightning speed there. However, the goal of 2400 Mbps over the Wi-Fi signal has more to do with stability and range than actual data transfer. If you want absolute lightning speed for LAN and Wi-Fi, I’d take a look at gaming routers like the ASUS GT-AX11000 PRO.

I play MSFS with 78003xd and 4090 and the meta link via occuls was stuttery as hell. Steam VR is better, but i still get flutter stutter. I am hoping going to 6e will help stabilise things. If my 67meg is not enough, I will have to break contract and go with Virgin (the only supplier) of full fibre wifi6. So finally, if i get full fibre, does the archer just plug into the new virgin router, and then become 6e? And with that setup, can i still get bandwidth to my aging other devices, that run of 2.4 hz and 5gh? Sorry for the noob questions, so hope you can help.
@MrTeeF9 ай бұрын
Actually, streaming VR over Wi-Fi is completely independent of your internet speed since it solely relies on the communication between your PC and headset. You can completely bypass your Virgin ISP router by configuring it to Bridge or Modem mode, which will transmit the internet signal to your new router, allowing it to take control of your network by assigning IP addresses and managing internet access. If you're unfamiliar with Virgin routers, you can refer to these resources for guidance: KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZnZlYmjgNSDj9U Virgin forums: community.virginmedia.com/t5/Networking-and-WiFi/Modem-Bridge-mode/td-p/5309851 Alternatively, you can configure your new router to Access Point mode, creating a new WiFi connection point while still allowing your ISP router to handle internet distribution and IP address assignments. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHeqm3aOebeUqa8si=b0xpy1bxPLia9oDF

Hi there! I found the initial video before I got my quest 3. I was sure I needed a wifi 6/6e for it... In holding off buying a new router I discovered that my old router is stable at 5ghz 866 mbps. I run av1 codec@ 200mbps in godlike mode with a 4090, and it seems to run flawlessly. Networking is + - 5ms. I still want to try the router, but I am now unsure if I will see any benefit of the upgrade. Any thoughts?

No need for more then a 5Ghz Wifi5. But if you want close to uncompressed image quality you sould atleast get a Wifi with 80Hz 1200Mpbs. A 160hz 5G will give you more wiggle room for interference and longer range and 6G should in theory illiminate interference completely (after v62)

The TP-Link AXE5400 (AXE75) has Gigabit ports - so how can you get more than 1gb (2401 Mbps) from the PC to the router please?.. Are you not using a cable from router to pc at all - and using another fast router to transmit to the AXE75 which then just passes the data on to the Quest 3?..

Honestly, I'm not sure, but I keep it enabled because theoretically, it's supposed to enhance the stability of device connections on your network. But Chat GPT seams confident: "OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) can indeed help improve Wi-Fi connections, including for devices used in virtual reality like the Oculus Quest 3. It allows multiple devices to transmit data simultaneously, which can lead to better efficiency and reduced latency in crowded Wi-Fi environments. So, leaving it on is generally a good idea for enhancing network stability and performance, especially if you have multiple devices connected to your network."

I live in a rural area where the 160mhz DFS channels see little to no usage so I have had absolutely no problem with my wifi 6 router on the 160mhz 5G channel I have had it on. I get the full 2400mbps and it never cuts out. But if you live in a city or more densely populated area where you can't use those DFS channels then upgrading to wifi 6e will benefit you. also if you have a wifi 6 router that only works on the 80mhz channels at 1200mbps then that might also be a reason to upgrade.
@Let_the_fun_begin9 ай бұрын

@@Let_the_fun_begin wifi 6 (not 6e) can also give you 2400mbps but it has to be one that will work on the 160mhz DFS channels. Your wifi 6 router can only run on the 80mhz channels that's why it only gives you 1200mbps. If you are planning on upgrading, it probably makes sense to just get a wifi 6e router that has the 6G band. you may also be tempted to get a wifi 7 router but they are brand new, really expensive, and hardly any devices even make use of the new wifi 7 standard anyway. so unless you have money to burn, wifi 6e is probably your best bet.

Now, it appears to connect and stay connected to 6E only until I try to launch Quest Link to start PCVR.
