So I keep hearing all these execs freaking out about why steam pcvr is going down and why q2 numbers are dropping and why psvr2 presales are bad etc...BUT HELLO!!! where are the new must have games!?!??! Even psvr 2 launched with like 3 exclusives and a bunch of old q2 games which werent that great and we all own. So I feel until they actually release games which arent free to play microtransaction monsters then VR is going to keep suffering. Or atleast until the graphics are as good as the adverts and marketing the mis sell VR with. It’s cool to see eye tracking have native support in VRC. I’ve been thinking recently of modding the Index with the EyetrackVR hardware and software to get it eye tracking support, but I figured it’s a waste of money for me since 2 of the only 3 avatars I use have 2D textures for eyes and the last one’s eyes are broken for some reason. As in, the eye tracking won’t work for whatever reason. The pupils won’t move around, they just rotate in the same exact place and I gave up after 2 days of trying to figure out how to fix it.

By the way, to fix your eye issue, you need to move the eye bones to the inside of you head. Bones work by rotating on the spot. With your current setup, your eye bones are probably placed directly where your pupil is. This will cause the pupils to rotate on the spot and not move. The fix is to move the eye bones further away from your pupil - towards inside your head. This way when it rotates, it actually moves your eye.

I don’t think it’s happening. It really sucks but I think they’ve just decided on losing it. the most reasonable best case scenario at this point is, they remove it and so many people leave the platform that they add it back, but even that’s unlikely.

​@@lofisky4355 the problem is that there isn't really any alternatives to go to. The average VR user uses standalone. Really the only main competitor to meta is pico. Which isn't even available in the US which is where a lot of VR users are. And I doubt it will come to the us due to Pico's parent company bytedance (same company that owns tiktok), even if a person went out of their way to switch headsets they would have to rebuy their entire game catalog.

Different quest models with varying power settings will either limit developers to the lowest common denominator, or a two/three tier quest store. Quest 1 got dropped in support and how long until quest 2 or the cheap upcoming one get phased out of some key games. Meta going down the Pimax route of many models of stand alone is a bad idea in the long run

The other flip side to look at it is that each release was many years already, the hardware between each gap is increasing rappilty - alowing for more software upgrades as well. Just because its not supported - doesnt mean it stops working either. Just means future software doesnt work with it as well and you can't just magically make software work for older hardware. At some point there will be a give or take. Consoles are the same way too. PC hardware in some way is the same as well. It really doesnt change much there. I will agree that software will be written for the lowest common denominator and thus Quest 1 might have been holding back dev if anything from getting more AAA titles. Quest 2 will be holding back Quest 3 as well. Pimax route is really different though - I wouldnt compare the two to be the same at all. I mean if you are going to say it like that - then phones have been doing that for a while now:) and yet, that market still going on strong.

Making VR more affordable to jump into will always be a pleasant sight to see. Enthusiasts will buy into things at almost any price, but continuing to get the average consumer onboard with VR will expand the user base and grow the market. The bigger the market, the bigger the reason for companies to jump in and innovate.

guardian in quest pro is much worse, it's so bad that I havent been able to use quest pro properly since its release. I've stopped using it completely. Don't buy it untill it's fixed.

@@yoshiegg6537 So far, it's been good to me. My Quest 2 would constantly change the guardian height and even move the guardian across the room. And the thing is that it never did that before and gradually got worse over time. It was to the point where it would constantly glitch out and reset the guardian back to where I set it and it was causing a lot of issues like missing blocks in Beat Saber. At least with the Quest Pro, the guardian stays put to what I set it to and my accuracy in Beat Saber went up a few % along with actually full combo-ing songs that I was having a hard time with due to the Quest 2's glitching.

@@rangerkayla8824 I actually have been fighting this guardian issue for the entirety of last month. Even have the $35 IR light meant for CCTV. There's something wrong with the IR cameras (or maybe just an issue with one of the cameras) itself. It's really hard to explain but while in passthrough mode, you can see it clearly. Like every 5-10 sec, it would glitch out and the end result would be guardian issues. It's like the cameras are constantly resetting themselves and the glitch is the cameras finding the correct positioning. I don't know if I hit the Quest 2 hard enough or if my hot and steamy sweat decided to fry a circuit but believe me when I say I tried everything. Oh and the Quest Pro DOES actually work with IR lights. You just need ones meant for CCTVs, which we both have (yes, those $30 ones). The only thing that doesn't work is the passthrough, which make sense since it doesn't use an IR camera for passthrough like the Quest 2. Just got out of a session with a completely dark room with the IR light aimed at the ceiling and the tracking was surprisingly good. Left controller likes to drift away at times so if I were to get another IR light and put it on both sides left and right sides, the tracking wouldn't have that drifting issue.

The limited performance is a thing though, but that's why I'm hoping they'll actually add eye tracking to the Q3 even if that wasn't planned so far, because that can boost graphics noticably with dynamic foveated rendering.

Meta dropping echo makes more sense now… and it’s kind of smart… practically no one bought a quest to play echo.. it felt like free bonus.. but pop1 going FTP can have a huge drive factor for the head set.. which means more future users for XR development to target. I don’t always have good hopes in Meta… but maybe just maybe we can do to them as Facebook did to Myspce.. let them spend all money developing and marketing… Now here’s where I think meta is being shady…for the Quest pro price drop…. I’m thinking high level chess moves… maybe I’m giving meta more credit than they deserve… but maybe they’re plan all along was to squeeze 1500 out of early adopters and business for the pro knowing they would eventually drop it down to the 1k price once other Companies were close to releasing head sets… virtually no competition allows them to sell what ever price.. and now that competition is rearing they are able to try and snub them with price before they even launch. I honestly don’t think they were expecting to sell pros like they did 2’s I think they just wanted to squeeze the market as much as they can.. I really think Meta is playing the extreme long game here. Very similar to early apple!

Imma be real, my main intrest in VR is passthrough MR to project additional screens + modded VR skyrim. If the quest 3 has good MR it'd probably actually a sensible buy considering just how expensive a multi screen setup for work purposes can be. Projecting 3 additional screen around your main screen could be insane value. Like, that alone is worth the purchase price of the headset level value. With games and VR being essentially free ontop. Lets see what they release.

Every industry needs a Pimax. As an oculus user, i've never thought about buying a Pimax headset, but I love seeing what they do to push the industry. They're a needed piece of the puzzle, even if they are funded by a less than admirable government. They will push the rest of the industry further, which is what I will eventually buy. I'm a fan of Pimax for that.

I would buy a Quest if it wasn’t so locked down. The Go has already been abandoned, and I’m basically using it for KZbin, as most streaming services abandoned it. The Rift S requires the Oculus app to be running. If Facebook filed bankruptcy, there might be 3rd party drivers for the S. But the Quest will be useless, as it’s USB C port isn’t HDMI/DP out.

After switching to PCVR with my Quest 2 and a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, I can't bring myself to go back to stand alone unless I play games with friends that only have access to standalone.

So here's my dilemma then. Should I get a Quest Pro, or a Quest 3? I would love eye and face tracking, even if it is a little more expensive then a Quest 3.

Wait for the Quest 3, If your looking games get the Quest 3, if you are looking for business or work (Which I am guessing your not) get the Pro.

My main problem with Meta is Meta itself, not the headsets. I didn't even want the Quest 2 because of them - was blatantly waiting for a more affordable Valve headset to come out, as I have a beefy enough computer to enjoy PCVR games. Eventually I caved and grabbed one (refurbished, discounted, 3rd party. I made sure I gave as little money to Meta as possible) and while I enjoy VR itself, I'm more than ready to shove Quest 2 and any other Meta products to the side purely because I don't wish to support Zuckerman. However I'm one to give second chances, and while I'm still planning on jumping ship, if things change within Meta and Zuckerman takes his head out of himself, I'll be more willing to invest in another Quest product.

I just would love a headset with the visuals of the HP Reverb G2, better FOV, pancake lenses, great colorful passthrough, wireless, great tracking (in light or dark rooms). That would be my fantasy VR headset...wonder if the Quest 3 can do that?

Honestly, I feel the biggest weakness is the fragmented ecosystem. Having to tether to a PC and run Steam AND the Oculus app in order to run some games adds a lot of overhead on resource consumption, and then you're limited to a tiny area and have to either deal with laggy wifi or cables that randomly disconnect because the cables just like to jiggle slightly when you move.
