The Q3S is for people that can't afford the Q3. It is that simple. The Q3 is better. It has better lenses and display panels making the image higher resolution, with nearly edge to edge clarity, and no god-rays. That said, there is nothing wrong with the Q3S, it is just the normal case of getting a more affordable product by cutting corners.

Since I started with my Quest 2, I feel like I'm better off going with a Quest 3 itself. But anyone new to VR, I SUGGEST YOU GET A 3S!!!! It's cheap and more affordable, but if you're not used to VR and just getting into it I highly suggest the 3s from what I've heard and seen.

Right but what's important to note is that the render resolution is pretty much the same. Render resolution for Quest 3 (and assuming 3s) is 1680x1760 resolution. It's a lot less than the displays are capable of in Quest 3. That's still a bit lower than Quest 3s displays! This means that while you're going to notice the higher resolution displays on the Quest 3, it's not going to be the sort of jump it should be, as they're not actually fully utilising that resolution. Whereas while 3s has the same displays as Quest 2, it's rendering at higher resolution than Quest 2 renders at, utilising more pixels on the 3S. So this means 3s will look noticeably better than Quest 2, and closes the gap quite a bit between 3s and 3. Quest 3 will look better, but not that much better. That's for standalone gaming anyway. For PCVR, you can render at full resolution of Quest 3, which means you can fully utilise what the higher resolution has to offer. But standalone gaming seems to be not as big as difference as you'd expect.

I could never go back from pancake lenses, and with the better resolution I can push my PC for PCVR and see the difference. For standalone, the 3s would blow the 2 out of the water, which is it's real purpose in my opinion. If I had money for both, there would be no reason I would ever get a 3s over a 3. If I only had money for a 3s and If I was going to do a lot of standalone VR I would get it; but if I was mostly just going to do PCVR I would look around for a quest 2 or other options before.

I bought the 3s about 2 months ago now. I am completely new to vr and it's perfect for me I didn't have a set standard of what I was expecting so everything the 3s delivers is more than enough for a beginner! It will still blow your mind and it works pretty much flawless, some bugs will accumulate overtime but restarting the headset once in a while fixes everything. It's an awesome console/headset/computer. These do a lot!

Another thing in the US you can get a refurbished quest 3 from meta for $379 for 128gb and $449 for 525gb and you still get the batman code this is a good deal since you get warranty from meta and the savings is going to be spent anyway on Bobovr S3 Pro strap since stock strap is an no no 😅😅😅

The 128gb are 300 new and the 512q3 you can get new for $50 more. I would just spend the extra $50 for a new one. Maybe if it was like $100 less I would buy used. Just my opinion though since I’ve had issues with refurbished things before.

I was literally on the fence about whether to get the S or the full 3, and this video made me realize that i'll be fine with the S. I am still pretty casual about my VR, even though I have dozens of games. Another thing - i have lenses that i got for the Quest 2 and those will apparently fit the 3S....so I'm getting the S. Don't forget that the Quest 3S works better in the dark than the Quest 3 thanks to improved infrared sensors. You will get a "turn your lights on" notification, but it won't interrupt gameplay or performance. I've played in really dark spaces, and it doesn't affect me one bit. The Quest 3S is the best banger for your money.

came from the 2 to the 3 just recently and wow is it a game changer. If just getting into it I guess go 3s to see if like it but if you do you are going to want to upgrade to the 3 as it really does look that much better and clearer on the edges which makes huge difference for immersion

Brand new to VR. 3S pricing drew me in. It's fantastic. Mixed reality is beyond description. No question that if price is no object, or you're an experienced user, the 3 is the place to be in spite of the extra $200.

The quest 3 sounds better over all. The 3S is sporting an attractive price range,but you can get a 128gb Q3 for under 400. I'd rather just save up the extra 80 bucks and go with the 3 for an all around better experience for my money. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I've come to the conclusion that the 3s is simply a bump up from quest 2. So it'd make sense for someone who doesn't currently have VR to pick up the 3S. Whereas a quest 2 user would benefit from skipping straight to the 3. Is that a good conclusion? I'm saving up for the 3S, since it'll be my first experience with VR.

Do not waste your money on the 3s. It's nothing more than a repackaged Meta 2 that's hopped up a bit. I'm telling you, you will be very disappointed if you get the 3s and then try a Meta 3. Save up your money and get the Meta 3. The pancake lenses are worlds better than the fresnel. The sweet spot is much, much larger and is a game changer for the VR world. I've had a Meta 2 and a Vive Pro 2. The Meta 3 is far superior than those because of the pancake lenses.

Quest 3S have 2 IR sensors that are better than the original Q3 for working in low light conditions. Meaning that 3S hand tracking is better to work in low light conditions or complete darkness while on the original Quest 3 you will get a "low light" warning.

@@ConanR Its really not the same experience, you cant compare 3rd party IR iluminators with native IR sensors built in the headset itself. When i mentioned total darkness i meant in really low light, like inside the house, bedroom instead of outside. Most of us, what you mean by that? The Q3S 2 IR sensors are very handy for mixed reality tracking on low light and an upgrade from the original Quest 3, that's a fact. Again, you cant compare 3rd party addons with real deal.

So turn on a light. Most people don't play in the dark, so that would be a small improvement a small percentage of the time, while the difference in the lenses and panels give you worse visuals 100% of the time.

@@3DModelsToys I always have my place in low light because turn all my LED's down on my phone and my quest 3 works fine bro. so don't know maybe it's slightly better but it's not an issue. Plus I have 512Gb I would taqke that any day. I have like 200 games on the thing. But if it ever was an issue I have my PSVR2 for PCVR which works through bluetooth and works fine in low light as well. Don't think I had a low light warning on my quest 3.

For me, image sharpness is more important than anything else, and the Quest 3 truly excels in this area. I’m not too concerned about FOV, which is perfectly adequate on the Quest 3, but when it comes to sharpness, the Quest 3 is far superior to the Quest 3S.

the aux port is a huge deal. "you just need to spend 100 dollars on way worse headphones then the ones you already have for basic low latency audio" *is* a deal braker and a really bad argument. even more so with its main plus point being price. and the fact wirless has absolutly zero advantages when you wear a vr headset anyways. the only argument here is that you can obviosly just get an aux adapter but those are a hastle and also do cost money again.

$299 is inarguably great value for the 3S. The release of the Apple Vision Pro was great for Meta as they looked at all the clever UI and Software ideas in it and copied them. Plus standardising the XR2 Gen 2 Chipset means Game & App developers now know THIS is what they'll be working on for the next 5 years. If in a year Meta starts selling the 3S for $199 that will kickstart the next generation of VR. $199 is JUST inside the Special But Affordable Birthday/Christmas gift price range, $299+ isn't.

no! get the meta quest 3. it is worth it! you'll be blown away by it. the ps5 and psvr2 is good, but there isn't much of a reason to not get the quest 3. its cheaper, better for portability, and more comfortable. use the spare money from not buying the ps5 and psvr to get a good headstrap and kit out your vr.

I upgraded from the Quest 2 to the 3S and it's worth it. If you have a pc its a bit less of an improvement, but the mixed reality and the fact the headset doesnt look ugly in passthrough, or the fact you can scan the room instead of drawing a playspace manually, or the fact you get batman, or even the fact it's slimmer with an actually passable headstrap, makes it worth it. Plus, you can sell the Quest 2, keep it as a backup (especially if you mostly use it on a pc), or just give it to a sibling or something so it won't go to waste.

No the blur is due to the Fresnel lenses (PSvr2 has the same issue), there is no blur when i use the quest 3 with the Pancake lenses.

it does suck, but it seems like my USB-C headphones will plug into it just fine. Might pick up a strap with an aux port and a battery if one comes out.
