I was trying to figure out which headset to buy for eye and facial tracking. But you’ve helped solidify my choice. Quest pro seems like the best value to me, no tongue tracking, but it’s a small sacrifice I can live with. Hopefully they unlock the tongue soon though. Good video!

Thanks for the comment! I'd honestly go for a Quest Pro too if I didn't have my Vive Pro Eye. But ofc, the setup is different if you are gonna use FBT or the index controllers, beware xD

@@KnightXVRC yeah the setup is genuinely terrible for lighthouse trackers. it's perfectly fine if you want to use slime or haritorax tho, doesn't require any calibration. you can also emulate index controllers while using quest pro's hand tracking and just use the cameras for hand tracking through alxr.

Fun demo, but really need to keep in mind that tuning the face tracking rigs is pretty important. My personal rig for my Rex doesn't work the same for other people, because you'll have tiny nuances like differences in face shapes and what not that will make the trackers look like they aren't working properly, but they are.

Pupil dilation seems super cool and also entirely useless lol I'm sure if you wanted to enhance immersion by adding it, you could just simulate the effect. That said, it probably helps the tracking software to understand better where the pupil is if it also understands the size of the pupil, even if that data isn't revealed to the game/application.

Vive pro eye performs so well that it brings tears in my eyes. I just wish every headset would have equally good tracking or better. I hate that the quest pro has no OLED or worse face tracking… it would also be nice if future headsets would implement both inside out and lighthouse tracking in one headset. Bruh we’re asking for the same damn features every year. A comfortable headset with good headphones, a good mic, pancake lenses, micro OLED displays, full eye tracking, full lip tracking, inside out tracking together with lighthouse tracking, finger tracking, full body tracking, and a light weight headset. You know it could literally be the beyond with the face tracking modules and headphones of the vive pro eye, the cameras of the quest 3, finger tracking of the index, and full body tracking of htc 4.0. If those companies would work together, every one of them would make money and their headsets would work like fresh’n warm buns.

Oleds are so incredibly good. I remember going from the original old vive pro to the index... Index has a really really good screen but any oled will beat the #### out of a non oled screen. I just haven't found a good index replacement yet so I added eye tracking and face tracking to mine into it's original package. The index nails every single point it needs to except for the resolution which is now dated but still decent. Want wireless just add it. Want eye tracking just spend 50$. Want face tracking? That's another 20$

Quest Pro can have facial tracking data transferred via Virtual Desktop. So using Meta software is no longer needed.

true but you can only use the finger tracking through alxr so far (by emulating index controllers w/it). VD can track hands but not fingers. wish VD would enable that, i cannot get alxr to work

Oh, also do note: the quest pro does the face and eye calculations on the headset, meaning that you don't get the performance penalty that SRanipal gives. This is cool!

The eye movement on the vive sells me. Yeh, I can't move my brows, but I can roll my eyes when I want. I can dart them around, without moving my head. While the vive might have have slightly worse tracking in some ways, it is much more expressive IMO.

just like a disclamer, other players movements get smoothed out because it only sends movement data at 30 fps i think, so the best way to show it would be if both of them recorded on their own to see how it looks on both ends, because it makes a big difference

@@KnightXVRC Great. First before going out and spending money. Try the headset without the mouth tracker. If the headset no longer does that. Then getting a separate cable for the mouth tracker will fix that issue with the eyes. I bundled the usb cable that goes with my mouth tracker to my main headset cable. I also have a vive pro eye, using the mouth tracker. Though it is not plugged into the headset. The time i had it plugged into the headset i had so many issues. The mouth tracker started cutting out. Then the eye tracking started to break exactly like that. Then lastly the headset tracking started to have issues soon after. Then a few hours later the headset was no longer detected. Had to get a replacement. On my second vive pro headset. The second vive did not break. Been using it for almost a year now. When i did not have the mouth tracker plugged into the headset the headset was flawless. Also the plastic piece that covers the headset connectors. Just take it out, it is to keep the connector cool enough. Also never place the headset upside down either because that will cause the headset to go off on thermal overload and shut off and show a red led. It will only take you doing that 3 times and the headset will more than likely break in some way.

I was surprised to see this issue. I've never had my Vive do this before on tether or wireless(my primary). Usually when I get into a game with it, all I have to do is "calibrate it" by exercising all of the face movements and then I never have any issues with the trackers for the rest of the session.

Kind of. The VRChat avatars we are using have a Smoothing option so we wouldnt see each other jitter that much. This is just to test the capabilities of the headsets and how good the expressions are reflected. In the end you will need a smoothing option because VRChat wont update these values for other people as quick as the headset renders them

With Vive Pro Eye of course it's more simple, because it's lighthouse tracking. So the FBT callibration is instant. With the Quest Pro it's a bit more annoying I admit. The best solution many people propose is to have another tracker attached on the head for the continuous callibration, which works pretty well, but of course its a bit more expensive solution. It also depends on what you want in the end with the FBT. People who dance will sure enjoy a wireless experience better. People who just casually move a little, will work well with both. As for finger tracking I've only used the Index Controllers, so I cannot advice on that matter!

Also can the tongue tracking be fixed by attaching a vive facial tracker to the quest pro?| I have trouble with my quest playspace needing to be recalibrated with my base station playspace every time I launch it. I use space calibrator for it but it's annoying to have to do it every time. I've heard virtual desktop can solve this issue, but this is the main reason I want a base station tracked headset over standalone.

There are more headsets that have eye tracking like the Varjo headset, but these two are the ones that have Eye tracking and Face tracking capabilities. You could technically attach the Vive's face tracker module to some other headset, but it requires adaptation and it's a bit more complicated.

I'm a bit late, but I'm currently working on implementing eye and facial tracking to my Quest 2, I'm waiting for all the parts required to get in the mail, but hopefully it won't be too long. and it will be superior than the Quest Pro because it *will* have tongue tracking :3

Hmmm, the quest pro user here is using Air Link to connect the Quest Pro to the PC. And then launch VRChat from SteamVR, so this is a PC user, not a stand-alone VRChat in the headset.

@@RadioBot05 It really doesnt matter what SteamVR sees. If you want to pass the Eye tracking / face tracking information to VRChat you need the program "VRCFacetracking" in parallel. If you dont run this program, the tracking info will not reach VRChat.
