Mythology is just an interesting concept and it fits metal perfectly. Power metal, trad heavy metal, doom metal, death metal, and black metal all explore these topics and I’m glad that it’s a common trope in those subgenres.

Mythology is a great subject for a story, it's a great narrative for concept albums. I have always had metal music associated with mythology as well as esoteric teachings. Both are related. Mythology is a specific explanation of how things work (how the world came to be, the origins of humans, and all those big philosophical questions), but it can present that lore to the general public (exoterics way of teaching) or to a select few (esoterics way of teaching). If only you take the names of bands like Marduk or Absu. Both are related to Mesopotamian mythology, and that itself is quite esoteric. The group Marduk is lyrically about tanks and war, but Absu, that was different coffee (Proscriptor knows his shiet). And that's why mythologies and metal go together so logically, because the fact that the Catholic Church blacklisted metal music as the product of Satan. And for the Catholic Church, mythology is also Satan's work. For us atheists, mythology is the source of fantasy stories :)
