New Alcest might be my favorite of any of them. Soo good. Even Les Voyages de L'âme had one or two skippers after a while and Ecailles de Lune doesn't quite have the same atmosphere even though it's a 10/10 album

Dark Tranquillity's album was one of my favourites this year! "Not Nothing" is one of the best songs they've ever released imo.

On the first couple listens Endtime Signals didn't hit for me like Atoma or Moment, but after seeing them live in October it really changed my perspective. They played like 6 songs from the new album and it really sounded fantastic.

I loved the new 1349 and counted it as one of my fav albums this year. While I don't rank it up there with Hellfire, Liberation or the Infernal Pathway(my top 3, probably in order, Hellfire definitely 1st), I felt like it had plenty of great musicality on it, some very memorable tracks(God Devourer, Fatalist, Ash of Ages, Shadow Point), and it was nice and heavy, even if it wasn't as breakneck as some of their earlier stuff, and Frost's work continues to be godlike(I don't think he can be anything but, lol.) I think in terms of the mix between "Vicious" and "Melodic" the Infernal Pathway hits the balance a little better than this one, but I was listening to this a LOT at the end of the year and it got better for me each subsequent playthrough. That being said, I can see where people get a little more hooked on this band's jackhammer-carpet-bombing style of some of the general favorites, so I understand why people might have expected more. I'd probably put it somewhere in the middle, around MCoC, if I were to rank them? Just for my own tastes.

I think Swallow the Sun should have been an EP rather than a full album. I can forgive the style as a side bit or bonus tracks, but a whole album was a bit of a strange choice.

The only one that really jumps to my mind is Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Just absolutely not for me. I know they have an audience but I really struggled through it

Zeal & Ardor "Greif" was probably my biggest disappointment this year. I really tried to like it but in the end it's just too subdued and boring, like they got rid of almost everything that made the previous records so special and good.

I think the album I was most dissappointed by was Monolithe's "Black Hole District". Only came across this band in the last couple of years really, but really loved their previous album "Kosmodrom". But I've just not been able to get into "Black Hole District", and I'm unsure why. It just isn't clicking for me. Unlike Questy, I really like the latter day Darkthrone albums (and controversially my favourite era of theirs is actually their more crust sounding stuff), but aside from a couple of tracks "It Beckons Us All......" just wasn't as good as the last two albums. I was also a bit underwhelmed by Wraith's "Fueled By Fear". It's fine but in a year where we have amazing blackened thrash records from Midnight, Vicious Blade and Inverted Cross, "Fueled by Fear" just doesn't do enough to be interesting.

I am really dissapointed about the Amaranthe album. From Manifest that was like their best album to The Catalyst one of their worst.

Saying Alcest or opeth dropped the worst album of the year should be met with criminal charges. Opeth's the last will and testament is the best album i've heard in 5 years, AKA when in cauda venenum was released. Masterpiece. Alcest's new album is easily the second best album of the year. a freaking masterpiece as well. Saying either of these two was the worst album of 2024 is borderline objectively wrong. Even when all music is subjective.

Forgot to comment on that one. But I couldn´t listen to Wintersun´s new album "Time 2" because of the drum production, it´s just terrible, the snare sounds like the kick drums. The music is okay, but the production on the drums ruined it for me.

Most overrated has to go to Heriot, I can't understand what it is the media is seeing in them, they are painfully uninteresting and half baked. Most disappointing has to be Rotting Christ who should never release lyric videos when the lyrics that bad.
