Iced Earth is another level of metal. Jon (guitarist and owner) is called riff master for a reason (and I hope his court will end up good this month, fingers crossed) and Matt Barlow, singer is one of the best. You want to hear him in Dracula, live version... That is sick

Amazing reaction. I just wish the lady from the Dante's Inferno reaction could've heard Matt's high notes. Anyway, a note for this particular set (Alive in Athens 1999): It was filmed over two nights with a slightly different setlist each night, but overall the same songs. The editors used audio from one night, but then stitched video from both nights together, which is why some things don't quite match up. Like Matt's trail at the end, he lowers the mic far too soon for his voice to keep carrying. As well as the shirts of the guitarists change from sleeveless t-shirt to tank to and back throughout the song. The band made sure to air their displeasure about this, but it was too late. The audio, however, is superb. Thanks for the reaction!

My favourite band growing up, got to watch them live in Athens in 2002, at the very next tour since "Alive in Athens" came out, and it was the best metal concert i've watch in my life, they played 3 hours+ straight, it was brutaly good. Also, Matt's hair were a good foot longer than they were in "Alive in Athens", they were so heavy that when he headbanged they didnt rise in the air, they just made waves traveling down to the bottom.

Great reaction to a spectacular musical song, which in my opinion is the most escapist and live of the band, that concert is not wasted and even some songs are better than their versions of study \m/

Definitely worth a deep dive into these guys! It's hard to go wrong with any pick, but if you want to sample something from the 2 vocalists that came after Matt, check out "Framing Armageddon" (with Tim Ripper Owens) and "Seven Headed Whore" (with Stu Block). BTW - they have several long epics, but they also do a lot of short and brutal songs.

Travel in Stygian is in their 2nd album "Night of The Stormrider" released in 1991. The original version's vocals part was performed by John Greely, who has quite a different style from Matt Barlow.

You've gotta listen to A Question of Heaven from the Alive In Athens album, it's one of their best performances ever. There's no video for it unfortunately but the audio is amazing on it's own.

Matt Barlow in his fucking prime! Fun fact: when Matt joined the band, he had no vocal training. None. ZERO. John had him take lessons (I believe) before they started recording Burnt Offerings. Matt's debut. Iced Earth will always be in my top 5 of metal bands. Please, more Iced Earth. The Gettysburg trilogy is a must in my opinion. Matt is my favorite singer of the band, but Tim "The Ripper" Owens did the vocals for The Glorious Burden album (which is fantastic) and has the best trilogy of songs for Iced Earth.

What else you need to know about Iced Earth, here are two mains. Barlow left the band after the 911 attacks to become a police officer and the band founder Jon Schaffer (the rhythm guitarist) stormed the capital in 2021 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Check out another Canadian thrash band Annihilator. Very good stuff there! I love Iced Earth, too, and I think the Civil War epic off of their Glorious Burden album is one of the greatest epics ever recorded!
