Marshall Mathers is his personal life in his music, normally very dark. Eminem is his rap career, normally very serious. Slim Shady is his jokey alter ego, usually funny but dark. Marshall Mathers is easily my fave as it dives into his personal life and his darkest music is some his best.

3 years late to the party but I gotta say it: watching you discover this album brought me back to when I was going into the 9th grade and heard it for the first time myself. We can never get the initial reaction back so it was great to witness this. Thank you for that. Also, those moments when eminem's word play and humor make you want to pause the song and let it sink in.. he has never lost that, either. I think (at least to me) that is part of his longevity. Listening to any of his releases take me back to being a kid and being transfixed by his wordplay, delivery and humor

He was told by the label none of the songs were single worthy for radio and he had to come up with a new song or no album. He went home, locked himself in the lab and wrote the way I am. It's an amazing song.

What I’d give to hear The Marshall Mathers LP again for the first time. You’re so lucky to have discovered it. One of the greatest hip hop albums ever made. A masterpiece. Found it funny that some of the tracks you liked the least are some of the greatest (Criminal, Marshall Mathers etc.)- they’re lyrical genius, true classics, truly 🔥. But you talked over all the bars. 😂🤣Also, without knowing the context, I would imagine they don’t hit the same way. Study up, then maybe give them another listen? It may illuminate the context and give you a greater understanding and perhaps a greater appreciation for what he’s spitting. I loved it when you paused and shared stories though. Just please listen intently when the track is playing?😉 But your assessment of The Way I Am? YOU WERE DEAD CENTER ACCURATE ON THAT ONE. Happens to be My favorite Eminem track of all time (although my favorite album from him is Relapse- it’s a horrorcore masterpiece). Still as relevant, vicious and venomous as the day it dropped 22 years ago. And it always makes me happy when someone new discovers it for the first time. Thank you for doing the whole album. I never thought I would spend 1.45 listening to one of the biggest albums from my teens with a guy I’ve never seen before but I’ve really enjoyed seeing it through fresh eyes. If you haven’t already please react to D12s album Devils Night. D12 ( the dirty dozen ) were Eminems rap group featuring 5 other Detroit rappers including Bizarre that featured on Amityville. It’s a brilliant album filled with lots of F’d up stuff.

Harold Pierce rakim is a goat, but EM took it way to a next level, he rhymes almost every word while still telling you a story, it's crazy. L and Pun didn't have much time, they woulda been as good as EM...well not good as him...but hella good

I wouldn't call him the greatest lyricist, but he is by far the greatest wordsmith by a mile. The way he combines words, creates flows, emphasizing syllables, bending words to fit in a scheme, while telling a funny, coherent line is downright genius.

I was always metal influenced by my siblings, and rap influenced by my friends. I was the only one growing up that was listening to Death and Slim. Bein a white kid from a low income and dangerous neighbourhood, Eminem resonates with me on multiple levels. As most metal music can as well. 2 very different things, but also 2 very hand in hand genres. I enjoyed your reaction to this genius classic of an album. beatsNstrings yo, same here man. heard this album along w other’s from Eminem thousand’s, and thousand’s a time’s, and watched this reaction vid not expectin much other than to see some hilariously unexpected reaction’s, but w every song I got the chill’s, and it was like I was hearin every song for the first time again... cept I knew every word to every song. I think seein this man react in such an open minded, and geniune way to everything from instrument’s, and quality of production all the way down to lyric’s, and delivery made this video so nostalgic, and impactful for me. also I usually don’t like the extra commentary that people have in their reaction video’s, but this guy isn’t tryna be someone he’s not in order to gain like’s, and/or subscriber’s, so not only did I not mind his commentary, I actually thought it was really good, and informative. liked how he was able to explain a bit about who he was, and his background by bein able to geniunely relate to certain thing’s in some of the song’s, and segway from those certain part’s into his commentary so smoothly by only talkin about thing’s that related to those part’s... because everything w this man seemed so natural, and never forced I subscribed to his channel. awesome guy w a genuinely awesome reaction video... 💯💯💯.

Slim Shady, Eminem, Marshall Mathers is himself and his alter ego's. His dad left him when he was little. Paul Rosenberg is his manager. *Encore* was by far his worst album, but it’s still an above-average rap album. It’s like Metallica’s *St. Anger* : it’s a good album until you realize which act released it, at which point you notice the steep decline in quality. Fortunately for both examples, they’ve both had better albums since.

The last song is D12, which is Eminems band, they are his closest friends. It is rather important to understand D12, if you want to understand Slim Shady. D12 was at first basically just a pact between them that the first person who gets famous, makes all the others famous too, it was Proofs (Eminems best friend since high school, he died 2006 after being shot in the head) idea to found the group, he also had the idea that all of the 6 members should have 2 personalities, therefore D12. He had also the idea that they should say things that would be over the limit and just saying whatever they want, but also funny things, like saying to fuck his own mom and having a new brother and son at the same time, it was already Bizarres (the other guy on the song Amityville) style so he inspired the others in the group and fundamentally is responsible for this famous style of Slim Shady, it is also probably why you thought that Bizarre is the counterpart to Eminem, which is actually very true, but Bizarre is still the most crazy one in the group, to name all members and the second personality: Eminem - Slim Shady Proof - Derty Harry Bizarre - Red Head Kon Artist - Mr Porter Kuniva - Rondell Beene Swift - Swifty McVay I recommend the song "My Band" from them, especially the music video, which is very funny. His first album "Infinite" has absolutely no Slim Shady influence and therefore are the song themes completely different, because it was before they came up with this idea, so even though the album was incredible good, people were not buying it because it was not unique and too similiar to other rappers at that time, it only sold like 1000 copies, even though the album is incredible, especially in terms of rhymes, but that´s basically it, besides that it was indeed not unique, but the title song "Infinite" is in my personally opinion one of the best songs he ever did. I think to understand Eminems music you have to understand his story, which is in rap music often the case, because of the heavy focus on the lyrics. If you really want to know more about Eminem, I recommend his book "The Way I Am", which is like his songs very well written, I think most of things I wrote are also written in the book.

Hey man, great to hear your impressions of this album so far and you have hit the nail on the head. The female artist is Dido Armstrong and the song sampled is ‘Thank You’ by Dido and yes she has a full backing band too including her own brother Rollo Armstrong! Well worth listening to her too, either ‘No Angel’ where ‘Thank You’ came from or with her 2nd album ‘Life For Rent’ which has the song ‘White Flag’ which is another of her hit tunes! Being sampled by Eminem was a major boost for her Album sales but she was already a major artist over here in the UK! Hope you get to check them out at some stage as she has an amazing voice!

Eminem is a genius and the best rapper of all time. Ironic he's a white guy but even every black rapper will say no one comes close to him... unless they are a "Hater." This was his early shit and he's matured sooo much and gotten 10x better as he's gone on. You need to just listen to everything you can by Eminem. He's is the best lyrically to do double and triple entendres. It's INSANE how his mind works. Oh.. fyi.. Eminem grew up in the hood of Detroit across 8 mile road... with 90% blacks. He used to go down to this place called "The shelter" and battle rap. Eminem = M&M (his initials for Marshall Mathers) Slim Shady is is "alter ego" according to him. "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up." Kim is his ex wife.. mother of his daughter Hailey. Debbie is his mother who he couldn't stand growing up. She had Munchausen syndrome.. and His father was a POS who walked out and was never there. Just a few things about Em, my favorite artist of all time. I say "Artist" cause as an individual he's my favorite artist. However I'm a rocker chic at heart.. grew up with my 1st Motley Crüe and Iron Maiden posters on my walls at 13... saw my 1st concert at 20.. Metallica and Guns n Roses front row center 1992 in Arrowhead Stadium. Then Pantera, Korn, White Zombie, Megadeath, Stone Temple Pilots..all live over the years and now at 50 I'm still listening, now playing Volbeat, 5 finger DP, In this Moment, Killswitch engage.. but I LOVE me some Eminem! 😜

I just spent two hours watching a react vid and I don’t hate myself for doing it. Great balance of play and pause...and when you did pause, I was interested every time. Already liked and subscribed, but I gotta say that you have a talent for this. Most react vids are garbage, but you killed it IMO. As to suggestions, I like Snoop, but never listened to any of his albums. Dre on the other hand...Dr. Dre - The Chonic, has always been one of my favorite albums. The kind of album that you listen front to back and enjoy it all. Also very curious to see what you think of Macklemore’s album “The Heist”, because that’s another that I enjoyed top to bottom.

Sean Savage I want to thank both of you guys for helping put an end to the ignorance among music fan's. It's a beautiful thing when people from opposite genre preferences can sit, listen, react, and most importantly appreciate one another's preferred music genres. Instead of hating and bashing it, forming an opinion of the whole genre based on a couple of songs or one single artist, thus giving birth to music stereotypes. Thanks to people such as yourselves we can put those totally inaccurate stereotypes to bed and start a whole new trend of open mindedness.
