Today Leo and Danny return to metal detect the last homeplace and hideout of the feud patriarch “Devil Anse” Hatfield. Location boasts an on-site Hatfield McCoy Museum showcasing actual relics from the feud and families. Just crossing the bridge built by “Devil Anse” himself, you are walking on feud history! Not to mention the family’s moonshine well from when they made their own corn liquor.
It also features a gift shop that prides itself on carrying unique one of a kind, local artisan souvenirs, and authentic Hatfield McCoy merchandise.
The Hatfield Homeplace also hosts its own food truck “Eat’n with The Hatfield’s” that serves hot and fresh delicious meals to enjoy on the serene property!

All children need the chance to get out an explore. My uncle has Down syndrome, and my mama took care of him for years and kept him involved in all kinds of things. When mama passed away, my uncle kept him. He wasn't nearly involved, which caused them to stay to themselves. So please get kids out to explor. It does a world of good. Thank you, Leo. Dean will remember that forever

I’m a fellow hillbilly myself from Sumner County, TN. Our accents are so similar. Both of my parents were born and raised in the country, so I have a very thick accent. A lot of people work hard of get rid of their southern accent because they are embarrassed by it. When I was younger I tended to be. But now that I am older I have embraced it as part of my identity and am proud of it. Not too long ago I met a couple who had moved down here from New York. We were talking, and out of the blue they told me I had a very charming southern accent. It occurred to me that maybe not everyone thinks we southerner’s are ignorant because of the way we talk. We have so much in common. The love of genealogy, family history, exploring old cemeteries, old houses, history. I’ve watched everything I could get my hands on re. the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s. It’s because they remind me so much of my own ancestors, minus the violence, lol. I love y’all’s channel so much. I can see that you put a lot of work into it. Thank you so much for educating all of us on your local history and taking us along for the ride. God Bless You. Be careful out there “in them woods” when the snakes start coming out soon. I hope you carry a pistol with you for your protection.

The Hatfield McCoy feud is so interesting and exciting to see all of the homes and various graves of the family. You have visited so many places related to the Feud Leo. My goodness! They are all so historic and I have learned so much from the videos. Thank you.

I’m a citified hillbilly from Charleston, WV, and you two together represent here one of the best attributes of us hillbilly’s….you demonstrate the great teasing, good natured way we pick on one another to show our feelings. You two have a fondness for one another. It shows. Love the giggles ❤️

The flat button and pistol bullet are definitely from the right time period. I've found several "V" nickels in southern WV soil and they all showed dark corrosion like the one you dug, so it's most likely a reaction to the minerals in the ground. I pulled a couple of Vs from the old WHS site back in the '90s that were in almost identical condition. It's possible yours could have been in the 1932 fire, as there were still a lot of those nickels in circulation then, or it could have been dropped before or after. One suggestion. Hunt the creek next. It's the feature that has probably changed the least since the time when Devil Anse was there. Small metal targets usually don't travel far in creeks and tend to get caught up in crevices between the rocks. Be prepared for a lot of junk targets, but there could be a few historic items there as well. If you have one, a smaller search coil would likely give better results in the creek.

Devil Anse's son Tennis burned the house in 1932 for the insurance, and went to prison for arson. It changed hands and eventually wound up in Jack Hatfield's hands. The GGG grandson of Devil Anse.
