That small item you pulled up first of all is the foot from a cruet- salt, pepper or mustard pot Hans! Very many congratulations on the beautiful seal matrix, an absolute peach of a find. I don't have a wish list, as long as I find a coin, a musket ball, a buckle or something of interest I go away happy enough- but there's plenty of items I'd really like to find and a seal matrix is pretty much #1, so I'm green with envy! Beautiful video as ever Hans, many thanks. May Fortuna continue to favour you, and happy hunting always :-D Nick.

In English we call the protective metal piece for the key to enter on the door a “scutcheon” Love your videos, I’m trying to catch up since I’m a new subscriber. Thank you! scutcheon (n.) a flat protective covering (on a door or wall etc) to prevent soiling by dirty fingers; Synonyms: finger plate / escutcheon scutcheon (n.) a shield; especially one displaying a coat of arms;

Thanks for all the hard work you put in to make such nice videos. I've watched them all and some a couple times. Very nice work. I worry for you though because you don't wear a hat all that much and you are out in the fields so much exposed to the sun. Sun damages don't show up a lot until you get older then they can be a real problem. My suggestion would be to get a wide brim hat and even one that has a flap that can cover your neck. Take care Hans. You make the best metal detecting videos. Thanks again. Mike

I just found you site and subscribed. Thanks you so much for being so detailed and editing the videos and showing the cleaned up item after you have found it in the field. The lead bag seals, what were they used for? Do you compensate the person that owns the field when you find coins of value? I saw the video where you documented your findings on paper and share that with the archeology group, you said they take the coins and such, do they return them to you after they have studied them? I apologize for the questions as you may have addressed them in earlier videos that I have not seen as of yet. Thanks again for taking the time to produce such interesting, informative, and professional videos. HH (Hager) Phoenix Arizona, USA
@TerraGermaniaTG10 жыл бұрын
hello HH :) welcome on my channel and thank you for subscribing and appreciating my videos! lead bag seals have been used to seal bags of goods for example flour, fertilizer, sugar etc. they were widely used in former times and thats why it is the most common find on my sites. the farmer has a 50% share of all the finds i make on his ground but in most of the things i find he isn't interested. we agreed that we will give all spubstantial finds to a local museum. the coins i have given to the archaeologists will go directly to the museum after they have been examined. thank you for watching, commenting and for your kind words! please stay tuned :) best wishes and greetings from germany, hans

When you find so many buttons and buckles on a field could it indicate much hand to hand combat in the area perhaps over several centuries?
@TerraGermaniaTG5 жыл бұрын
It's battlefield ground but also military camping ground. It's hard to tell exactly what caused the loss of the items. fact is that in napoleonic times thousands of soldiers went through this area.

Thanks for the explanations, however I still want to clarify the lead seals. It seems that they were a means of identification, for proof of ownership or were they just used instead of a cord or leather tie? The European treasure hunter definitely has an advantage over the US as this country hasn't been settled by metal producing people for only a few hundred years. Thanks Hager
@TerraGermaniaTG10 жыл бұрын
you're welcome!! bag seals have a very long history here in europe. . .they even date back to roman times 2000 years ago! it's not easy to define them sometimes as there is no real accessible data base to look them up. . .fortunately there are some guys here in germany who are specialized in defining bag seals! bag seals were used to seal goods in bags so that the receiver had a guaranty that nobody opened the bag before. . .the seals had imprints of the bag content, manufacturer name, logos, crests, dates etc. as far as i know there were also in use in the US!? best wishes! hans
