Hans, Johann K, here, I can't help but wonder over the diversity of finds in this field, with all the Roman finds, the various artifacts, the coins, how well used and populated this spot must have been through the ages, that it might be wise to ask the owner, at some future date, if you can detect around the buildings on his land. This settlement and all the people through the years must have been in the same general housing/building locations. I'm certain you could discover some very interesting finds nearby. You may already have considered this so just let me say, It's just an idea. I am so amazed, though, at all the different kinds of things you are finding here. Good luck my friend.

+Johnny Sachu these fields cover almost the whole range of german history! as you said the people of the different times always looked for the same environmental features. that's why you can find so much stuff in that area! the area around the farmers house is interesting but i didn't find much there as yet. thank you for watching my friend! all the best, hans

Hey Hans, love your generosity in the way you involve us like we are there. That takes planning and effort but its appreciated. I noticed when you show your palm that you have a square on the mount under your index finger. it means a leader or teacher. Check it out. :)

Hans, I'm a more recent subscriber of yours going through some of your earlier videos. You made some comments in this one that struck to the core why I like watching detecting videos. When I find or see something old, I too find my mind wondering at the items history....who held it....who used it etc. I've always been that way. When traveling I love to look at the landscape and wonder at how it has changed over the years. Here in the States I'm constantly looking around and wondering what things looked like before Europeans came to this land. I see barriers like rivers and streams and ponder how people dealt with crossing those barriers prior to civilization and bridges becoming common. I know that even the vegetation here in the States has greatly changed over the last 500 yrs. No Chestnut or Elm trees any more and those two species are said to have comprised at least 30% of the trees when Europeans first came here. When I lived in your country for a few years when my Dad was stationed there in the Army my eyes were constantly wandering and my imagination working overtime. There is so much history over there as you know by finding coins going back thousands of years. Every year my Dad got thirty days leave and our family would pack up our car and go on marathon camping trips around Europe in which we mainly focused on immersing ourselves in the history of Europe and it's peoples (afterall, our own ancestors came from Europe, mine being Scotland on my Dad's side and German and French Canadian on my Mom's side). In our current generation we like to feel we are somehow more advanced in our thinking and civilization than those of previous generations...especially those of thousands of years ago like the Romans whose coins you find. Yet that Roman had to carry coins around to buy things just like we do today. He had the same stresses of having to earn those coins and make his way in life just like we do as well. I think at the heart of things people are people and not much changed over the years...just changed circumstances is all. Sorry to ramble on here, but I think you do a wonderful job with your videos and it is nice to see I'm not alone out there in the way my mind works and what interests me. Thanks again and good luck hunting!

Greg Kerr hello greg :) thank you for your kind comment! i'm happy to hear that you understand me and what i'm feeling when finding these coins and relics! i don't take it for granted and i will never get used to it. every time i find ancient things a door to a long gone time opens and i feel a connection that deeply moves me! your thoughts about the original vegitation of the land are very familiar to me. . .i would love to see how the german woods looked like when the first roman troops came here. . .it was a vast jungle of oakes and beeches. . . thank you for watching and appreciating my videos!!! all the best, GL&HH! hans

I think what happens Hans is that people inadvertently pull off their rings when removing their gloves. The irony is that the finder also removes his gloves to retrieve it!
@TerraGermaniaTG8 жыл бұрын
I can imagine that! that's most likely the way it happens. thank you for watching!

I've experienced this phenomenon first hand. I've been lucky to find many rings metal detecting and for fear of loosing them I place them on my fingers when they fit . I was done with my hunt and as I was removing my glove a 8gram wedding band I found ended up in my glove . Strangely enough the ring actually fit . Not to loose. I then realized perhaps most of the rings I find a similar occurrence happened to them when the gloves were being removed.

the ring looks like a waffen ss skull ring from ww2 none of them are exactly the same and that i belive is due to most of them being specialy individuly crafted for each SS member. that one has a crown which may be due to some significants sybolizing power or high rank of some sort.
@brentwest99777 жыл бұрын
even cooler the owners initials are usualy inscribed on the inside of the band especialy if they were a higher ranking ss

.. Lg Chris
@TerraGermaniaTG9 жыл бұрын
LG, hans

I am not sure that is a dog tag due to the decoration around the edge (never seen one with decoration),it looks like the decoration (dots) on some UK coins so i wonder if its a coin used as a necklace.

Terra I am trying to figure out from your captured artifacts was that field a passage way camp site meeting place trading post with all of the different artifacts. Was the American money found from the 40s? If modern us coins what would the Gis be doing in that farmers field.??????
@TerraGermaniaTG7 жыл бұрын
we had a lot of american soldiers in germany after ww2. the coin can only be from one of them. I also keep finding us tent pegs on the field. I think they could have camped there in the past.
@johnpappas51557 жыл бұрын
That makes sence Terra.I think you will find your gold coins some day. I find alot of silver coins here. Alot of clad as well.Your spear was a great find. I mostly dig with an old ww2 Kay Bar knife. Im getting too old for that I guess i must go to the shovel .

So...what’s the protocol when you find dog tags? I mean....I wonder if there’s a way to see what it says with a special microscope or whatever. Like when they bring back the serial numbers on a gun that have been purposely scratched off? I dunno. That would bug the crap out of me not knowing lol I’d be sitting there thinking this dude has been KIA and not officially “found” since WWII and you could finally give a family long awaited closure 🙂 I wonder how often that happens... Also, that ring is awesome lol I just picture some poor goth kid walking through the field and didn’t notice when it dropped lol
@TerraGermaniaTG6 жыл бұрын
I've only once found a dog tag in finland during an official excavation. the head archaeologist took care of it and reported the finding and the number to the department of war victims. I would do the same If I did find a dog tag here in germany. haha.. the ring is definitely from a rocker or something :D thank you for watching!
@ValleyOakPaper3 жыл бұрын
I think the dog tag find in this video was a dog tax tag, not a soldier's ID tag. So not as CSI-worthy.

The silver skull ring is a bit odd finding that in the middle of a farmers field? I mean you don't really lose a large ring like that on dry land? Unless you throw it away? I agree with some other comments it could be from WW2 the death head skull was often worn by SS officer.
@TerraGermaniaTG10 жыл бұрын
Stephen Bamber i agree with you. . it's strange! i looked up ss- skull rings in the internet and they look different. . maybe some farm worker lost it. . they are weeding the land manually as it is an organic farm.. only a guess. . thank you for watching!!

the minum looks like a constantine minum there were several types the one you have here is with the single roman standard flanked by 2 soldiers on the back in another video of yours i have seen the one with 2 roman standards on the back there is also one with 3 standards then there's one with a laural circular reef with an X in the middle (commemorating 10 years of reign of constantine 316 AD you found this one in a previous vid) all of your roman coin finds date from the 3rd and 4th centuries the coin here dates between 306 and 337 AD

I thought that too but the SS skull rings dont have that crown on them. I got excited for a second because those rings are pretty rare to find in the field.
