That Iron Cross looks identical to what was sold in Dime Stores in the USA when I was a boy...around 1960. They had black enamal with white trim and were about the same size. Always the W and 1914, never the Swastika and 1939. I think it's a reproduction marketed for Kids.

I remember the 50-Pfennig coins you showed in other videos when I saw the 50-Pfennig piece from 1985 and your report of the explanation why farmers used to throw them on the fields to get a lucky harvest. They all depict corn/wheat. I like that idea that farmers for hudnreds of years threw pennies on their fields. Brought luck by mineralizing the soil for sure.

Yup, I thought that bag seal was a small Celtic unit or a Saxon sceat when I first saw it!..haha, awesome iron cross though!. You sounded a little bit depressed at the end there, all of us who detect know how it is Hans, its better to detect somewhere rather than wait for crops to come out of ploughland permission. Pasture is not my favourite but its what I hunt the on most, I wish I could pull fibulae and Saxon coinage out of it but the oldest (dateable) thing I've had is seventeenth century coins (and I'm still chuffed with that tbh!).. Hunts like these make the ancient finds, like from your dream field,all the sweeter :-) keep it up mate, we love your videos

Great video as usual Hans. Been waiting all week for it! :) The Iron Cross is a brilliant find. Looks like one for civilian wear as it appears smaller than the normal military version of the medal. Guten Tag Hans. since you found the Iron Cross, I thought it appropriate to ask a question about military finds. I have not seen you find one of these items in the videos I have watched thus far (started with Number One,) however I have seen a number of them found on WWII battle fields in Germany and Russia. I refer to the ID tags worn by individual soldiers, Hundemarken(?) When I see a detectorist find these I wonder if any attempt is made to record them with some authority to see if they could aid in identifying a fallen soldier. I realize there were a variety of reasons why they may not be associated with a causality, but even then they might provide clues as to a missing soldier. There was a recent news items about two American Soldiers bodies being discovered and identified and returned for burial, due to someone finding one of our Dog Tags and it brought to mind the ones I see in the videos. Again, enjoy your videos, your patience and descriptions of your finds, the care with which you document each for archaeologists and for us the armchair folk!

hello randolph, I'm not explicitly searching for ww2 items as they are not really my cup of tea ;) of course I don't mind to find badges and finding a gun would be interesting too. I'm aware of the appropriate handling of these "hundemarken" we have institutions here in germany where you can report these and they take care of the identification of the soldier and the contacting of the descendants. they of course maintain relations to the respective institutions of the allies in case it is an english, american or french soldier. thank you for watching my videos and for your kind comment!! all the best, hans

+TerraGermania Thanks for the reply. Your editing makes it seem that there is someone else doing the filming and that's hard to do, also time consuming. Very impressive. With your camera being held together with tape and super glue you could do worse than bidding, and winning, this faulty one on eBay, Item #221941885924 or search for HX-WA30. Good luck.I started by watching your most recent ones but enjoyed them so much I went back to #1. I have a few more to watch to bridge the gap.As you do GPS logging, I wonder if you've done a finds map of your dream and buckle fields? It could be done as separate plots chronologically and would tell you and/or your archaeologist what parts are the most productive. I expect that you know that by now in a general way of course.Happy hunting.
@TerraGermaniaTG9 жыл бұрын
my pleasure! It makes me happy to hear that my filming generates the impression of having a camera man :) It isn't as time consuming as it was in the beginning . . I'm used to my methods . . .thank you for your hint about the camcorder. . I'm shocked about how high the price of these cameras went. I thought they would become more cheap over the time. I don't transfer my gps coordinates to maps anymore as the archaeologists have more professional methods of doing that and fortunately I have access to these maps :) thank you for watching my videos! I appreciate your support! all the best, GL&HH! hans

My grandfather was in the Canadian Military in ww2 and my great grandfather spent two years in a trench in France with the Britsh army.Its strange to think we are all kind of have the same connection. In ww2 I think the canadian , british and Americans has some respect for the german soldier and Airmen but there wasnt that respect when it came to the Japanese. They were a different Animal all together. I really enjoy the discoveries you have. just keep it up my friend!

Hallo Hans, the modern bullet is a 9mm Parabellum; it is used in pistols and sub machineguns. Most modern pistols use the 9mm PB, as did the German Army for its different pistols and sub machineguns too - the Luger, Walther P 38 and MP 40 for example. But also modern pistols such as the Beretta 92 (USA) and Glock (Austria) use this very common caliber. When it comes to the EK II, I don't think 1914 indicates the year it is received, rather when it was reinstated and whenever you received it later on, it would read 1914 during WW I. During WW II, then you will see 1939 at the bottom regardless of which year it was awarded. And I also did a great find today - have a look: s777.photobucket.com/user/xvii-Behlau/slideshow/Metal%20Detecting/2015%20Februari

Hello Hans! A little hint about iron crosses here, as you seemed to struggle to discover that the exemplary you found doesn't seem to be original: All of the iron crosses have the initials ''FW'' instead of just the ''W'' as in this case. That's being because the inventor of the iron cross (As military- award, of course...) was Friedrich Wilhelm III. in 1813, to honor participants of the uprising against Napoleon, hence his initials were inscripted onto any of those... They always have a backside, by the way. ;) Maybe you were aware of all that, but i just thought i might point that out in case you did not. Good luck and keep it up!

+suesswarendieb hello suesswarendieb, thank you for your helpful and informative comment. Ansonsten Top- Präsentation, weiter so !
