I look for areas with a lot of history and luckily the farmers are happy to let me detect! I've been very lucky with my land :)

That's hasn't got anything to do with metal detecting but see if you run your fingernails on a bar of soap and get soap clogged under your nails before you start digging it helps when it comes to getting the dirt out. Wee gardening tip 👍
