I guess this is another reason I'm a happy f75 owner. I've seen videos of f75's on 1 or 2 tones pick up coins under a piece of iron. Not a small piece either. I haven't done it myself, but I have seen out done. And the machine did it effortlessly. Love my first Texas products. Oh, and my tesoro' s. Nothing works around large metal objects liked a fence line or shed like a compadre.

Thanks HunterGT.. That was an unbelievable comparison test. I had no idea the difference in discrimination was so outrageous. You definitely got them Garrett People up in arms I am sure. Thanks for sharing. looking forward to some gold panning vids.
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a pretty clear cut comparison. The Patriot vs Max video coming up is not much different. That snap - crackle - pop audio is a step backwards in my opinion. Might as well of just left the bell tones. I promise man...gold videos are coming up!
@IffySignals7 жыл бұрын
I have to chime in after reading these comments.. i have videos with the AT Max & Patriot and i had high hopes for the Max. It did beat the Patriot in depth in my yard and also seemed better at separation although i had the Patriot set in Delta Pitch tones. The bottom line in my opinion is the AT Max is a failure to people who live in areas with iron or like to hunt relics. I spent allot of time with it and no matter what you do or settings you use it is crackly and makes awful iron noise even when discriminated out. Everything in this video is spot on. I sold the Max and lost money because of the constant iron tones and crackling audio. When i put a machine in coin mode or discriminate out Iron i dont want to hear Iron. I am pretty sure there is going to be a recall. Even the AT Pro had crisper tones. If you are going in the water get the Pro or Max. If you want something to hunt all terrain with crisp tones, great depth, and real discrimination settings get the Patriot or F75 ltd. I now have the Patriot and F75 ltd and am more than satisfied. Spending $700 on a machine that you cannot bear to listen to wondering if these Iron crackles are deep relics/coins is not worth it when they have Fishers that are top notch and have five year warranty’s. My Opinion is Garrett dropped the ball.
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with that one Iffy. That crackle and pop sounds baffles me to be honest. Many of them sound like that and I would not be surprised if there was a recall on them at some point. According to other theirs do not sound like that and they have much better tones - so maybe Garrett fixed them and never said anything to the early buyers...who knows.
@IffySignals7 жыл бұрын
Wow Hunter i didnt know there were some out there that did not make the noise. When i asked Garrett about the crackling noise they said it was because it was more sensitive than the AT Pro. I’m looking forward to your Patriot vs Max Video.
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
I've never seen one that didn't sound like this...I'm just saying others "say" they have one like that. I'm a bit of a skeptic myself.
@IffySignals7 жыл бұрын
The thing does go deep i gotta give it that but anyone who lives in an area with Iron or just wants to hunt relics is going to have to put up with the constant cracking and popping. Like trying to find a station on an old AM radio.

I've tried the pro and gold both in Ohio in my backyard they both sound broken because of the horrible iron discrimination. Crackle snap pop. But with that being said I hunted a sight with underground dog fence it made my t2 erratic even with adjusting everything where the gold was not erratic and ran fine.

At $449 that is a fantastic deal along with a 5 year warranty! Can the display handle a little rain? I hate having to put those clear plastic hoods over my display because the sun reflects off it. I agree, it is easy to add a BT (with APTX low latency) for $50!
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Nick Haas It could handle a light sprinkle for sure. However larger droplets accumulating and running down into the cracks could be an issue.
@nickhaas24077 жыл бұрын
Thanks for doing this review! I want to hold out and see you do the same test on the Equinox 600/800 (coming out soon) vs the G2. I think I would be willing to pay a little extra for one that has the ability to switch frequencies and is waterproof. I did not have any of the big nails, but I found 2 big screws and 2 of the smaller nails to run the Monte test. The AT Pro with iron discrimination maxed at 40 with the 5x8 (I was too lazy to switch to the Standard or NEL Storm), did better than in your test, but gave a weird VDI reading on the Shield Penny (like in the 50s). The XP Deus with the 11" coil smoked it though in 17.7khz (what I normally run in) with some adjustments to discrimination and silencer. I think I could have just upped the reactivity to 2.5 and it would have let me hear clearly the nails, zinc penny, and a needle too! But.... The Deus costs as MUCH as the the AT Pro and G2 combined!
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Nick Haas Yeah the Deus is one fancy detector with all those settings. I had fun while using and reviewing it...but the price was a little out of my range at the time. I am hopeful to get an Equinox and see what it is all about. Seems like alot of hype that will be tough to live up to.

Hello there John, I watched this head to head video with interest ( I don't think I'd ever go with Garrett, even though the brand is long established, and revered by a great many, no doubt )... In this video you mention a less expensive means of applying a wireless headphone option to the G2+ etc, and said that you'd be doing a review on other audio options.... I totally realise that you are very busy, especially with rearing your children on your own ( I've been there my freind, believe me! ( My youngest son lives with me still, after 13 years since his Mum and I parted ), so having down time is a rarity. Anyways, do you think you will be able to do a review on the alternative wireless audio option as and when? I'm certain many of us would welcome stepping out of the expensive manufactures options, ie Z Lynk etc. Thank you. Regards, Tim.

I bought a new At Max and it drove me nuts jumpy signals and squeeking all the time.. Tried everything changing gain,threshold,frequency,descrim and sens. It still would not shut up, no EMI and no cells phones around either. Finally sent it back to get a new coil and head re-calibrated, nothing worked sold it a a huge loss as used. I will say their customer service ppl are fantastic. It is just ashamed the machine wasn't quality controlled better before going out. The AT Pro is a much quitter machine if you want a submersible. I love the G2+ with big coil.

I have nothing bad to say about their customer service. Top notch for sure...treated me well more than once. I spent enough hours with the AT Max that I knew it would not be for me. Thankfully the dealer took it back and all was well in the world again.

@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Jersey Digmore I am hoping to test the Equinox yes. See if it is all it is cracked up to be. Can't say much on the T2+ until release sorry. Hope you understand. I can say the T2 platform is a bit deeper and faster. The G2+ more sensitive to mid conductors...especially small stuff. Both great in nails... however the G2+ is the winner there.

The Horror. Had a G2 and it was horrible on sites with larger iron(bigger than nails). At Pro faired better there in as far as id’ing it. G2 woud give good tone on it. Can say I would take the G2+ over pro or max on most any other site based in ergonomics and your testing.
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Large iron can be pretty tricky for some machine..that is for sure. I do feel the AT Pro actually sounds better than this Max. Not a fan of this crackle-pop sound at all. The original G2 was a single tone machine like the Gold Bug Pro. Made for prospecting mostly. The plus adds a Vbreak and iron audio that really helps in bad iron spots.
@horseman5283 жыл бұрын
Garrett's usually don't have very good target separation. Iron will mask a lot of coins with those Garrett machines. I don't understand why their people at Garrett can't address that in their making of the machines. I don't whether they don't have the knowledge to do it or just don't care.

Dropped back on this video out of interest. It's a bit sad in a way, for me. Why? Because Garrett have been in the business for an awfully long time, yet they have failed to deliver a $700 metal detector that can compete with a $250 metal detector, from the stable of a 'new kid on the block' in relative terms of time. That, is sad.

If you deliberately did not put the disc. high enough on the Max, how is it a fair comparison? Run the nail test again with higher disc. (I personally keep my disc. maxed out) and then show us the results.
@markhagopian32577 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what that would do. Wouldn't that just make it impossible to hit that gold ring when you went over it.
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Your right...it was not fair. I gave the AT Max a head start and it still lost the race. If I raised the disc higher it would have been dead silent on the zinc. I don't think you understand how this test works...raising the disc would defeat the purpose and be counter productive.
@thehuntergt7 жыл бұрын
Not at all. The nail will down average the coin (or ring) on a Garrett bringing it closer to the nails ID. If I raise the disc I am going to be above the ID point of said object. Lower is better in this test.

Charles Garrett did A LOT for our hobbie but first was "treasure talk" then "treasure vision" now, the AT series. Sorry, not buyin' it and never will! (BTW... I was seriously looking at this G2 and the T2. The ONE thing that leaned me towards the Impact was the THREE selectable frequencies! (5khs. Deep Silver. 14 khz. General detecting. 20 khz.
