Metal Detecting South Carolina With Cap'n Billy And Glenn

Cap'n Billy, Glenn, and I spent a few days metal detecting and exploring some historic sites in coastal South Carolina. We found coins, buttons, Civil War artifacts and we made many other fascinating discoveries.

Your encounter w/ the ants reminds me of a long ago bottle digging expedition where I was on my knees with soil dug up around my waist - carefully feeling around for another small ink pot...when suddenly my chest felt like it was on fire! Yup...had dug right into an ant nest and boy did I ever get myself up & outta there... yikes. (I did have to strip off, much to the amusement of my fellow diggers.) Thanks for another interesting episode Chigg...

Merry Christmas to you and family. It was fun seeing your wife in nursing mode with the kitties this past summer. From a young age, I rescued little critters from baby bats to injured turtles or a cat being abused by three older kids. Funny story. Next door was empty lots, that whole side of our block and a dozers dirt pile. Three like 4th graders were on it and I saw them throw a long haired cat off it and then they began throwing big dirt clogs at it. I was like a 1st grader. I yelled to them to stop as I ran over, but they kept doing it and one went down to bring the cat back up to repeat the diry deed. I got right below them and again told them to stop and if they didn't and I got mad, I could turn a car over, they looked like they were getting ready for more dirt clogs and I ran up the dirt hill toward them and all three took off running, with me behind. I chased them down the sidewalk in front of our house and around the corner and down the long block, but being way bigger they were half down the next block and I stopped the chase. I think I believed what I said and they must of not wanted to find out. Bark bigger than the bite? Glad I didn't have to find out!

I found a clay pipe with a bearded face on it in a sweetwater tidal river in. Southeastern S.C. A whole one is a rare find as yall know.

That's Bush is called a wax Myrtle the pioneers took the berries and boil them handmade candles out of the wax

I am surprised you did not point out the reason the pipe stems were so long. They were frequently used in the pubs and other public venues, and were a public amenity. When someone would get the pipe, they would break off a little piece like you discovered so they would have a clean smoke without swapping spit with the previous partaker.

when Cap'n billy say bees attract sugar I can relate to that I was taking the garbage out and there were bees behind the dumpsters and were looking for the sugar off the foods. I don't understand why bees want sugar they pollute and make honey for us.

Those ants look like fire ants. We’ve had them since the late seventies and they are very bad for the small wildlife. Every where they sting you, it’ll itch like crazy and it’ll form into a little pus head. Hate em for sure
