Its Merrill from Metal Detecting NYC. Do you really find more treasure when the ground is wet? This video will test that theory in the perfect setting; a 1600's house that has a lot of history. The traditional wisdom is that the ground is more conductive. When the ground is more conductive you can go deeper with your metal detector and find more. RIght? Well....we will see.

I agree. They are also called grommets. If the hotel had awnings that might account for why so many have been found in the area... the fire would have released many of them to sink into the ground. ⭕⭕⭕

Wet ground absolutely conducts the frequency waves just like it does for electricity. Ive hit fields that were bone dry and had no targets virtually but came back after a heavy rainfall and targets lit up everythere! But that said, dryer ground will help you in discriminating out ferrous and non ferrous targets better.

Edward the 3rd coin? Impressive, because he lived from 1312 to 1377. To find such a coin in NYC, one wonders. Was it some soldier's lucky coin? That one find with the three holes-- it looks like part of a dresser drawer pull. The three holes could be for screws to hold that to the drawer, with the small, holed extension where the pull-part itself fits in.

Also, it would be great if you could give the year of all the coins you find when you find them; even if it's a newer one. Do you ever mention what county you are detecting in? I've always found that moist soil gives better depth. Right after a good rain, when it's been long enough not to be muddy but nicely saturated is perfect. Better conductivity? I'm not a geophysicist or electrical engineer, so who knows? Its a thing, though. Easier digging too. I'm out west where much of the ground is like concrete.

I once detected a dime signal that I knew was shallow about 1 inch so I just quickly plunged my digger in and flipped over the soil to retrieve my clad dime only to realize it was a mint condition barber dime that was being pushed back up by a root. Yeah wet soil definitely helps, I've found some of my best coins after it rains. It helps to detect deeper.

I have tried many setting for ground balance. I have it off worked great had it on 90 worked Ok. I feel some days the magnetic fields are stronger in the earth. Also I try to balance the number so if the number is 85 I go two less 83 or 81. I do not use ground grab.

On the Deus I’m almost always 90 on sensitivity. If I want to detail listen to something I will adjust up or down temporarily, but then return to 90.

I like that lock... what's the patent date on it? It says right below the word GUARDIAN, but all I could make out was Jan. 31, not the year

Plain Vanilla. Deep HC but full tones. I adjust the reactivity accordingly. My sensitivity is usually low 90s. I adjusted the audio filter to 4.

Allot of times when you remove the green by any means the coin underneath is corroded and you will see less detail.

I am XP's ambassador. There IS a bias. But that bias was earned after using 23 metal detectors and actively comparing the differences. Do you think I would be willing to compromise AFTER buying 23 metal detectors? I can say without any doubt in my mind that the XP Deus 2 is the best metal detector on the planet. Most configurations are less than 2 LBS. It can get targets up to 20 inches on dirt with the 13 inch coil. It can dive down to 66ft in the ocean. It has a special add on called the XTrem hunter that finds big objects down to 16 ft. It has a GPS (GoTerrain app) that tracks where you walk and plots the target ID where you found items. It is completely wireless. It has a high frequency coil that is coming out soon. That will make it able to find objects as small as tiny gold flakes. There is nothing as versatile on the market. There is nothing as ergonomically superior on the market. Deus 2 all day!

2:30 Hi. What do you think, which coil will be deeper, concentric or DD of the same size? With other things being the same. After all, a DD coil essentially has two loops with a width slightly more than half the total width of the coil, and a concentric coil has a width almost the same as the total width of the coil.
