+Chill Bill It depends on hunting ploughed or pasture. In pasture lead definitely sinks fast and gets way down there so I presume the gold does too. (hopefully...)

For truly deep targets nothing is better than the Lorenz Deep Max z1. It gives you a 3d image up to 45 feet deep. I use my Deepmaxz1 here in Perú and I have found many objects of gold both Inca and Spanish. I have recently found 2 tombs yet to be opened in Sullana. This truly is a treasure hunters paradise.

A nexus mk2 would be the detector of choice I would use on that field as it hits deeper than my ATX with even the 6 inch dd coil and you can tell it’s deep iron if it is. So I would use that first then the larger coil 13 inch the clear up.

What detector would you use for finding a box of gold buried 2 or 3 feet or even more under the surface of a field, please? I was interested in the Whites TM 808 but i heard they went out of business and i can't find one to hire anywhere.
@LostMines

how are you getting on with the detector,
@pondguru
@pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
+Alan Tansey It is awesome on wet beach and underwater but I would much rather use the etrac or deus on pasture due to all the deep iron. Seems fine with iron check down to about 6" then struggles to identify it leading to many deep unsatisfactory digs. Can't wait to take it on holiday as last one threw up a 25g gold ring under the sea. It was in about 2' of water and under 12" of hard packed sand gave a beautiful clear signal.

Sounds like a good machine, i am looking to getting a minelab explorer , are they ant good amongst iron
@pondguru
@pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
+Alan Tansey Many people say that minelabs aren't good around iron but I find the etrac no problem - however I use ferrous audio which gives a low tone for iron and high tone for better targets. Not sure why most users in UK stick with conductive audio which gives same tones for iron or silver...one of life's mysteries as they must be constantly looking on the screen checking where the cursor is. Don't know if explorer has option to change audio as I jumped in with the etrac but I believe that apart from the display they are quite similar - will be worth checking with someone who knows.

@pondguru
@pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
Will Hornbuckle As I already had an etrac and haven't seen enough of an improvement in depth from the CTX I thought I would take a chance and go for the ATX. Admittedly it is more for my holidays and beach hunting but I do intend really putting itself through its paces inland which may well be its weakest type of hunting.

If you need deep machine but with discrimination you can choose Deeptech Vista Gold or Smart with big 14 inches new Epic Coil. The same depth as ATX but half lighter jon iron masking and very fast recovery speed.
@pondguru
@pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
Michał Majchrowicz I had a Vista Gold and I could never get it to run stable on my sites. The choice I made here was based on waterproof qualities and beach use as well as inland detecting I know PI machines would probably be the last choice for inland users but thought I would give it a go.

Pondguru Send it back to DeepTech ti repair. It must to work stable. Maybe you have old model or old coil. Some old DD coils has stability problem and they send you new one without any costs. @pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
Michał Majchrowicz When the Vista Gold ran well it was a great detector but the etrac was better for the land I hunt. Yes the ATX maybe is a silly choice for me only inland hunting but I will be making more trips to the beach and really looking forward using in underwater in the sea on holidays too. I deleted my facebook profile the day I closed my shop. It was a great day all round as I hate facebook, lol The best detector I have used so far for pasture is the etrac and when combined with the deus (used at the same time) is exceptionally effective. Would be interesting to see CTX and deus together, or even CTX and etrac but they are so similar that may be a bit pointless. If I was going to get a CTX the etrac would be sold.

Nice video i love my Etrac its my #1 detector i also own a CTX 3030 and it goes deeper than the Etrac but i think it picks up more nails than the Etrac but goes about 5 inches deeper in my ground, I did own a ATX for about 3 months it was very heavy and did not perform that good for the price, If you take it apart it is made very cheap & lots are coming back for repair, and is a magnet for nails and the iron audio is poor for deeper targets, What drove me crazy is the high & low wine, It might be good for gold? i have not tested it for gold, I think the depth is over rated and does not go that deep, When people do depth tests with buried targets it looks good for depth, but use it in the field with those setting its very unstable with major falsing, On the beach i buried a 25 cent coin in semi wet dry sand 1 foot deep and audio was very weak, I have a whites Dual field pi that goes as deep or deeper for only $800.00 compared to $2000.00 without all the stupid sounds, I think if you try a CTX 3030 you will like it better than the ATX, This is my opinion, Please give me your feedback when you spend 40 hours with it, I will be looking forward to see more videos with your ATX GL HH

cdntreasurehunter Yes I will try it in all sorts of fields, on beaches and underwater in fresh and saltwater before I can make any sort of judgement on it.The CTX was one I was originally looking at but in UK pasture which is 99% of my hunts I'm yet to see any depth advantage. One day I may swap the etrac for CTX but I fancied something totally different to try out - time will tell where it does best.

Upon reviewing the video, the answer is simple: It is not an issue with your new metal detector or with your technique. Ground moles dine on deep silver and gold. In Virginia, they consume Civil War artifacts leaving behind aluminum pull tabs and rusted nails.

A Garrett ACE 250 started my love of metal detecting one Christmas a few years back, and although I now use a Minelab X-Terra 705, I still hold a soft spot for the Garretts. Brilliant video Richard, one of your best yet. I'm not sure about your metal density and depth theory. Lead is denser than Gold, so if you are right we wouldn't find bullets. I think depth = age. Deposition from animals consuming grass builds up the level of the soil, so deep is old. As such your new machine may get you back before George I.II.III, which would be good enough for me. If you don't mind digging a foot down, there is a whole undiscovered country out of range of our detectors. Get on medieval pasture!

Always love your videos, Richard! Garrett ATX could be a good choice for lakes and rivers but even there you might be digging a lot of iron. However, as your priority is depth it should do well in water areas. On land I would think you would get a Coiltek 15 inch coil for your Etrac. It would give you desired depth and discrimination. I thought you did some hunting with a larger coil than the stock 11 inch for the etrac with favorable results but I might be wrong. I definitely wish you the best with your new detector and look forward to your new hunts as always. John

Jps3bs I had the crazy idea that I could swing the etrac and ATX together at the same time but they won't work together like the etrac and deus do. Maybe I will prefer the ATX for beaches and underwater use but I will persevere with the pasture to see if it does give depth advantage. So far I can't make a judgement on that.

The best trick to avoid iron with PI machines is to listen the sound of a target in OPOSITE directions,lets say ,do a cross above the target, if the signal is identical in both ways DIG,if sounds are diferent is becouse a iron nail there,thats for sure,I have made a lot of tests and avoid 80% of the iron targets,however round shape iron or a nail in vertical position sound like good target...

Hi Pondguru. I think you've made a big mistake by my opinion. If you want to find really deep signals would be best to take some of GPX series Minelab detectors no matter that they are usually made to find gold but they are very heavy so my suggestion to you is. If you are disappointed of your new detector look for Nexus Nexus detectors are VLF detectors as other but there is a bit difference. And the difference is that NEXUS detectors are resonant detectors the transmitting coil and the receiving coil work in full resonance. Some say this technology is deeper than the PI technology.
@pondguru

audiquattropower1rs Hmmmm I never considered that type of detector. I'll give the ATX a go on beaches as that is where it seems to do best and the search for a super deep inland detector may go on. I'll look up the Nexus.

Hi Richard, I was surprised with your choice but I'm now interested in seeing how it pans out with the atx it's got to be great on beaches ect, I made a choice and have recently gone out and brought ctx 3030 and I found it hard handing over the cash but it made me go detecting more and ctx is awesome loves silver and my mate purchased one same day, he found a gold stater which I missed by 2ft only if I had longer arms lol, but it was amazing seeing it come out of the ground along with the Celtic brooch just before, I've found 2 roman as well, great honest video too, I also had a day out with the ctx that was just one of those days ring pull 1989 tizer! 15 of them! Not to mention shot gun caps got to dig em, cheers Suggs

suggssecurity Sounds like an awesome site and as the ctx is so similar to the etrac I know exactly how it loves the silver. I'd say of the detector I own the etrac is still the favourite but I needed one to go super deep in wet sand and under the sea (and I hoped it would go deep inland too....)Yeah, man shotgun cartridge ends and ring pulls are a necessary evil for the hammered and rings.

Hi Rich, That was fairly typical of what to expect with the ATX, although on my very first hunt I did manage, a lizzie half groat on pasture, that had been absolutely blitzed. Very fair and honest in my opinion. Stick at it, and clear out some of that iron, then you should start to hit some good stuff. Remember "coin shooting", and I use the term very loosely with regards to the ATX ;-), concentrate on low high, High low as you say in your video, is the realm of small to medium hammered. Those moles should be a boon really, as they could drag up some fairly deep stuff, on a field that otherwise, would not get much movement. Real men use the ATX without the harness ;-) Love to see you "Dual detecting with 2 of those, lol Looking forward to future videos. Wish you luck Oh I almost forgot, do a ratio of ferrous to non ferrous targets in the next video if you can, that would be most interesting to compare. When I started it was about 5 good targets to 15 iron (I counted in blocks of 20) Now I reckon its 7-13, sometimes better, searching for the hammered (high low) for some reason improves this ratio, most of the time, as I seem to find more iron with the low high noise. This is also very site dependent, of course. Also bent nails, and iron rings do give a really nice signal, as you found out in your video, a double signal is usually a nail, or long piece of iron.
@pondguru
@pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
darren burnett I did the next video in blocks of 10 as I marked the targets with the ATX and went over with the etrac. Quite a few were obvious iron so didn't get dug but I'm sure somewhere in the footage I sum up the ratio of finds (maybe after each block of 10 - I identified 50 trgets on that hunt. Thanks for the tips on signals. I was wondering it the double signal was nails and wire as I noticed some of the nails and wire did indeed give the double signal - I'll ignore them. Send me your phone number if you'd be willing to share some tips over the phone 07772848730

Hi Richard, enjoyed the video, when you were saying you were looking for a super deep detector I didn't expect you to get the ATX, but considering you want to do some underwater detecting it kind of makes sense. The ATX is an excellent machine and really popular out here in Oz where detecting is mainly about prospecting for gold and a PI machine is essential. The main big boy PI machines out here are the Minelab GPX Machines (4500 and 5000) go really deep but not underwater. The new GPZ 7000 as just come out and goes underwater and supposedly 40% deeper than any other machine but with a price tag of over $10,000 I think you have to be a serious player to own one of these machines. I think the ATX is a great choice and will be interested to see how you get on underwater with it. By the way a trick what some folk do out here when looking for deep relics or coins is to detect with their PI machines and mark the signals. Then go over the same spots with their etrac or ctx and dig only the signals that the etrac or ctx don't pick up as these machines tend to discriminate the iron really well. The results have been pretty amazing with some great finds coming up from quite deep. Anyway mate , good luck and look forward to seeing your next video.
@eddklimas

Sorry forgot to mention Etrac needs to be set at all metal mode and 2 tone ferrous. It won't eliminate all the iron targets but will help to eliminate the most obvious ones and prevent a hell of a lot of needless digging, again good luck and hope you find loads of great finds.
@pondguru
@pondguru 9 жыл бұрын
edd klimas That's exactly what I did yesterday and it resulted in me only digging the better signals but the disappointing thing was that all the targets could have been easily found with the etrac alone. Really looking forward to getting the ATX on beaches and underwater.

Pondguru Keep persevering mate, I'm sure all will come good. Look forward to seeing your results with the ATX on beaches and underwater, I think that's when this machine will come into it's own and prove it's worth. Back to the video Richard, at least you show the hunts that don't produce along side the good hunts. As we all know, detecting isn't about pulling great finds out of every hole. The buzz we get when we do pull out a great find is because it's not a common occurrence and part of the fun of a hunt is not knowing what may come out the ground. Look forward to seeing your next video :)
@pondguru

edd klimas Thanks, man. I definitely think detecting is just like anything else in life and if we enjoy each minute we will be much happier than cursing a bad hunt or faking stuff to get more views. I know a few who have gone down that road and they just lose respect of proper detectorists. I even enjoy working until the early hours then getting up at 6 to do it all again as each day has different challenges and opportunities to experience.

the garret atx pro is a great detector for depth like most pulse induction detectors but they are more suited to seeing through hard ground .i think the problem your gonna face with that detector is that you will most likely be digging everything because i dont think it has the discrimination of treasure hunting machines but on the other hand it will go very very deep in your soil .so if that is what your after you cant go wrong with the atx.

Jason Thai The deus is good around iron but I don't have a problem finding stuff around iron with the etrac like many other people - I do know many people say the etrac and ctx are no good around iron compared to the deus. Deus definitely covers more ground on cultivated land but I go with etrac for pasture.
@jasonthai3077
@jasonthai3077 9 жыл бұрын
Pondguru yeh well i realised the problem with the ctx3030 seen as im a bit of a electronics guru .the problem with the ctx is that the cpu minelab have put in the machine is not fast enough for it to process 100 freqs on land with trash or iron infested sites .minelab have stated in the manual 4 second swings to try combat this ability to miss targets in iron but even then you can still miss targets .because it runs with 100 freqs it uses so much processing power that the cpu is basically bottlenecking the ctx .if they put a faster cpu inside it will correct this problem by fixing recovery speed and target seperation .thats what i just cant understand why would minelab make a machine with so much potential and then bottleneck it with a really slow cpu and the only thing i can think of is i guess they would have to raise the price of the machine and people probably wouldnt pay 3k for a treasure hunter or maybe they would lol ? who knows .but ye running at 100 freqs the processor needs to be faster and its the same with the etrac the reason why the ids can be inaccurate at depth is the machine not reading fast enough .this is why im so in love with the deus atm because it uses one freq but all its processing power is in that one freq hence why its so dam fast and i used to stick up for minelab and argue with people that the deus was no good till i actually got one then i had to apologize to people and admit defeat lol .
