Have you ever wanted to know what a hoard of coins sound like when you pass over them with your metal detector. Here are some interesting example's

I found a hoard of 6 gold staters... But they were scattered deep so signal was decent and faint. However, a club member who found a hoard of over 2,000 bronze Roman coins in a pot said the signal he got was just like he expected from a single coin... It was just that each time he found a coin and then swung over the spot he got another signal. As he moved further down he found the rim of the pot that had been caught by the plough. But he stated signal was just a consistant diggable signal all the time. Good video Gary!

very interesting, surprising and useful video! I couldn't believe the signal the roll of coins gave when the detector was set to 25KHz. thank you for sharing!

The signal is going to be a non-ferrous and big. But also it could be an overload signal as well.

Very interesting... I found 3 separate "Spills" this year... They carried in number from 28- 57 coins.... US 1¢ (copper) and US 5¢(nickle). I also had a few odd dimes and quarters mixed in the spills. They were indeed scattered in a 2' x 3' area for each individual spill... My frequency was 12k and depth was about 5-6" avg. Signal was banging and had a machine gun response due to the .any targets..... Coins were modern so no great value...but it was fun.

Brilliant Video Gary and I have tried many khz modes on my sites and it is very true to what you say but however the New modern £1 does have cheap mix of metal within it as it is slightly magnetic which could give the mass iron indication perhaps?

Youve a good percentage of iron the latest new pound coins to the extent you pick a pound coin up with an average magnet from 2014 on dont know when this clip was made ,if per chance the coin were silver as ancient hoards seem to be in the UK would your experiment be different ???? the frequency aspect is spot on I very much believe its the newbies that have a tendency to find hoards ...

Hi Kevin I work for XP so I will say XP. However, comparing the CTX to the Deus 2 is not a close comparison. The CTX which I still own is a work of art to look at, and has some great features. Perhaps if it had the promised updates it would still be in my top 3, but it is now feeling very heavy and old compared to the D2.
@simonsena13784 жыл бұрын
A really interesting experiment. Perhaps it has something to do with the magnetic induction created by the detector's magnetic field on each individual coin oppose each other and cancel each other out when the coins are stacked horizontally particularly at the higher frequencies. Hence the detector picks up the net effect as a lower conductivity target. Only possible if the spaces between the coins have higher electrical resistance than the coin itself, i.e. poor electric contact between the coins.
@The-skillschool4 жыл бұрын
Good theory Simon, very possible.

Question - the pound coin outer ring is nickel-brass and the imner portion is nickel plated alloy. So, is the difference, between not finding them at the start and actually finding them, due to nickel-brass only? In other words, would 10 silver coins, lined up, edge upwards, have the same result? Would 10 gold coins do the same.
@The-skillschool4 жыл бұрын
It's based on conductivity Greg, big Silver yes, not sure about Gold.
@gregpchandyman78254 жыл бұрын
@@The-skillschool Well that, now, leads to another question. What about 74khz with the 9.5 inch elliptical coil? I have found odd things with it, edge upwards, at that frequency. It really was astounding that, at first, the Deus missed them, all together, edge upwards. I was sure it should have done something but it didn't. I would dearly love to see that same test with all settings wide open at the frequency that missed them. ;-)

I saw the video of the Explorer, (good video) I've got practicly the same machine xs. If I've got it on conductive, is that how you get lower tones for coins and such and high for iron, I tried it in house and it didn't look that way, are coins lower conductors
@The-skillschool3 жыл бұрын
That's the draw back, conductive gives a high tone for iron and also highly conductive coins. However deeper coins give a mid tone.

I hope somebody can help me out I'm running version 4.1wih hf coil any drains my battery is really quick . No problem with the original low frequency coil the updates a little confusing when you read it it says that the high-frequency coil only works on 4.0 and 4.1 and when you read the update for the 5:2 version you don't need to update the high-frequency coil extremely confusing
@The-skillschool4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you may have answered your own question. It could be a battery/charger problem. Or it could be problems with V4.1 and that coil, that's why they say use 5.2.
