Although I am a Floor fanboy, and her versions of _Phantom_ with Henk Poort are great, nothing beats this performance IMO! Tarja's and Marko's voices work so well together here, and even the videography is good (it spoils some of the other songs in this concert unfortunately). Spot on.

My man. You looked like you were going to cry tears of joy. This was the video that introduced me to Nightwish. Jumped in with both feet. Now you should check out Marko's live performance of "The Islander." It's amazing. The way it starts off with just him solo, then the rest of the band joins in later...it's a beautiful song from the albums with Anette. Album version is a beautiful, folksy thing as well. Marko had the ability to harmonize and match all three of Nightwish's singers. Man is an absolute beast.

Marko's botched throat surgery was sometime in the mid-1990's. This was 2005 so he had already learned to sing again. I have wondered if the surgery gave Marko an opportunity that he may not have taken otherwise to really explore his voice. Maybe, while he was figuring out how to sing again, he was testing techniques that he might not otherwise have used. We all know that now, Marko has so many colors to his voice that it's impossible to count them all. How many of those colors did he develop during his recovery?
@BemusingBill Жыл бұрын
I learn so much every time I post a video. His voice is phenomenal. I've heard of singers undergoing this type of surgery and recovering completely and others who can no longer sing, such as Julie Andrews. Perhaps the recovery forced him into training his voice in different ways that brought about much more color and strength. He's a joy to listen to.

Hey there, mate! Tarja and NightWish huge, long-time fan/addict here! lol. I just came across your channel and I'm thoroughly enjoying your NW reactions, eager for more! 🤘lol You've got a new subscriber right here and lots of thumbs up! Thank you for this reaction btw, 'twas awesome! I'm so glad you enjoyed this masterful piece of art! Theirs is the ultimate version of The Phantom of the Opera imo, and this whole 'End of an Era' concert is pure gold, it happened in 2005 and was the very last time Tarja and NW performed together before their dramatic breakup. Plus a curious fact: she was very sick with a severe throat infection during this iconic concert. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just you imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍Remember this everytime you react again to a song from this show, which I hope you do lol. So mate, if you like this one, wait until you see more from her; trust me when I say this is only the tip of the iceberg. Well, I'm guessing you're already familiar with some of their history and lore, so I'll mostly skip that part and focus on the Music About Tarja's voice (not to mention her astonishing expression and presence), I love the tone of her voice so much, it's dramatic, piercing, rich, full, warm, dark and powerful, yet it can be soft, otherworldly and angelic, very precise as well, a rare voice even into the classical music world; and it never ceases to amaze me how she can carry all that natural weight of her voice up into her high register, it's insanely hard to do that, takes A LOT of skill, control, practice and a great vocal technique not to make your vocal chords go "boom" when you've got such a powerful voice like hers. She's an incredibly talented musician, a truly unique artist, master of her crafts! Well, I love Tarja, I love NW with Tarja, and I simply love NW in all lineups, with all 3 lead vocalists they had (Tarja was the first from 1996 to 2005 and co-founder of the band; then Anette Olzon from 2007 to 2012; and now Floor Jansen since 2013), for they're such an epic, extraordinary, legendary band, as you surely know by now Anyway, I'm so glad to see many people on YT reacting to them and thus coming to know their music this way!🤘🖤 I mean, you witnessed it, through their Music they've created such magnificent otherworldly realm!!! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with! So please continue in the path of this fantanstic musical journey, from all their eras, I think only then you can have a full scope of their artistic evolution and all. Well, just to be clear, I enjoy NW's music from all eras because they're an incredible band no matter what, and although I'm a huge Tarja fan (or Tarjaholic, as some would call us lol, and think she's very unique and brought NW to a whole new level combining her stunning dark, absolutely beautiful and powerful operatic vocals with Tuomas' genius), I love, respect, support and appreciate all their singers as the equally great, amazingly talented musicians they are in their own different ways and rights - that's a fact only the blind don't see, all else is just a matter of personal taste and preference imo. Each of them brought special, individual elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity, this alone deserves respect at the very least. As a fan, I strongly believe we are blessed to have witnessed 3 amazing talented ladies fronting NW and should just enjoy the gift the whole band (all members, past and present) deliver us with their timeless Art, and I think we should feel grateful and honored for that, regardless of our personal preferences. That said, I hope you're taking suggestions from the comment sections for I have plenty lol. So if that's alright I'd like to drop down here my recommendations from NW in Tarja's era, since from what I've seen you reacted more often to NW with the amazing Floor, and I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" (although I absolutely LOVE them in all eras!💘), moreover I don't want to make this comment any longer than it will already be lol. Afterwards I'll be also suggesting songs from Tarja's long, stunning solo career, her work is different from anything you've seen and deserves more attention, it's creative and overall mindblowing, plus 'tis inspiring how she's constantly growing and improving herself as an artist and a person, and only in her solo career you truly get to know her artistry! I hope you're willing to take this fantastic musical journey made possible by these phenomenal artists, it's so worth it! So, without further ado, back to NW in Tarja's era (I tried to make a selection as short as I could, really difficult to choose from their vast, outstanding repertoire lol, but there's so much more to explore as you go): 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4CndIBoa6-Lhbs . "Ghost Love Score", song from their 2004 album "Once", performed in the iconic "End of an Era" show. This is one of their greatest masterpieces of all times! Floor also sings this one differently but beautifully🖤 and I love both, I just personally love the way Tarja sings it, I feel like she deeply understands the crucial importance of the instrumentals (especially the epic orchestral arrangement and choir), and the unspoken soul of the song, so she doesn't sing it like it was all about her voice and it's clearly intentional; if you listen closely sometimes she even seems to use her voice like an instrument, often blending her sound at the end of some phrases with the orchestra's (which in Floor's version was made lower probably to match her style better), becoming one living soul with the music. It's just so perfect imo! 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnLShoqLabSjqtE . "Bless the Child", live at Raumanmeri in 2003, song from the 2002 album "Century Child". Another brilliant song and performance! If you wish, there's also the official video for this song, quite beautiful and breathtaking. 3. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gobcaYeVaNCcm6s . "The Siren", another iconic "must listen" masterpiece, also from "Once" and performed in the End of an Era DVD. Tarja becomes The Siren here, mesmerizing! And 'tis interesting how she uses different layers of her singing she rarely did while with NW, apart from ramarkable dark operatic vocals: she uses a soft, drawing, mystic almost ethereal voice, and also a sort of arabic/gypsy chanting style! Really beautiful, mystical and enthralling imo! 4. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oovKnKudoK1pf5o . "Planet Hell", also from "End of an Era" dvd (song originally from "Once" as well). Heavy! Tarja & Marko!😍 They rock so freaking amazing together!🤘 5. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jISwdHdpbqp8g8U . "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan", also from "End of an Era" dvd and ine more track from "Once". I put this ballad because it's simply beautiful and so very touching (plus, it's in finnish, their native language, and I love it!) The translation of the title is something like "Death makes an artist" 6. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGixaYCboMp7aJI . "Wishmaster", also live from "End of an Era", but song from their "Wishmaster" 2000 album. Great performance of another iconic song! 7. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIq5nWmDhL-Lf9U . This is "Swanheart", live performance from 2001 dvd "From wishes to Eternity". The song is originally from their 1998 album "Oceanborn". This is gold, one of their most beautiful ballads ever! If you wish there's also this 2013 version from Tarja's solo career: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqeph5d7iZihnZY in which she performs with an orchestra and choir, beautiful arrangement and her vocals are so thrilling and emotional! She's obviously much more mature here. 8. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qne2opSCgL2trbs . "Slaying the Dreamer", live from End of an Era DVD but the song released in their 2002 "Century Child". Heavy, bombastic, mindblowing, phenomenal!! She puts a bit of "belting" effect in her voice here, plus she and all of them headbanging so hard gets me excited and headbaging along 🤘 And Marko is wild! 9. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5C1g4CIja-Krqs . "Sleeping Sun", live from End of an Era. Such an Iconic ballad, truly beautiful, astounding! 10. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoLXlYSHo8plitU . "Passion and the Opera", this one is actually performed in Tarja's solo career, 'twas in 2007 (therefore after her departure from the band), but the song is from NW's 1998 album "Oceanborn". I don't think they ever performed this live together, neither did the other singers as far as I know. Anyway it's sooo amazing!!! In this song Tuomas seems to make "subtle" musical mentions of Mozart's "Queen of the Night" aria, from his opera "The Magic Flute". Love this and Tarja is gorgeous, showcases much of her vocal skills and powerful energy on stage! To be continued...

11. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3uoe2mhmN6mqZYsi=mtWOKwNMKmJb7Xl- . "Beauty Of the Beast", from their 2002 album Century Child; link to a lyric video 'cause I couldn't find a good live recording, but this song is simply beautiful, breathtaking, one of their first symphonic rock "grand pieces" and a treasure that I think shouldn't be left to fall into oblivion as it is more often than not. 12. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIDHfKV9i7uof5o . "Dark Chest of Wonders", from their "Once" album and performance from "End of an Era" too, the openning title of the concert. Brilliant, heavy yet flowing like a river! 13. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onqViIWIbdGLnac . "Ever Dream", another iconic, great song from "Century Child", also performed in End of an Era. Floor also sings this one just as beautifully. 14. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXibhoGYfpd-g5Y . "10th Man Down", from 2001 EP "Over the Hills and Far Away", and performance is live at the Summer Breeze Fest in 2002. Baby NW and they're already grand! Now about Tarja's solo work, I'll tell you why I think you should check it out. Her Music is another epic, life-changing journey, as much as NW's, so I hope I can encourage you to react to her solo work besides continuing your NW reactions. Her solo career is full of gems, and since after her dramatic departure from NW back in 2005 she's clearly much happier and finally free to be fully herself, you know, without the "shackles"... and ever growing and maturing vocally and artistically through the years. Her solo musical rock/metal style (apart from her classical music and Xtmas concerts, and other "out of the box" side projects of hers) is very unique and not easily defined, it defies categorizations, though it still has plenty of the symphonic metal elements as guidelines such as some kinds of guitar riffs, epic orchestral arrangements, dramatic theatrical "ingredients" and her remarkably dark, powerful operatic vocals (though now she mixes a bit her classical singing tecnique with a more "contemporary" style and her strong chest voice in a very singular, non mainstream way). Her solo work is much more versatile, she incorporates and merges aspects of different stylistic elements, and is always experimenting new things in her music without any fear of exploring the unusual, so you never really know what to expect or what she'll do next, AND I find it magnificent, exciting! Plus, I love the fact that she walked her own path and found her "artist self", ways to translate her soul into this world through her Art, never trying to recreate her old days with NW, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices. She's simply a fantastic, hard working, super talented and phenomenal artist who's sometimes a bit underrated by some unfortunately, a remarkably beautiful soul too! Such an amazing artist, so creative, expressive, she plays the piano (since she was 6 actually), became a noteworthy songwriter/composer (most of her songs are written and composed by herself), and a producer, collaborator... And a powerful, captivating performer; I love her stage presence and energy too, she always gives all of herself and owns the stage. She's truly one of a kind! I got to see her live a few years ago and man!, what a mesmerizing voice and enthralling presence! She draws in every person in the audience always, and controls the crowd without having to say a word, almost like a spell, as if she's perpetually connected in an almost spiritual level, we feel that and she does too, and knows how to use it! The videos can capture a glimpse of that power, but seeing her live... Wow, it's an entirely different experience! She's much more energetic on stage now than while with NW🤘❤, yet she managed to keep that same majestic aura and otherworldly presence! And at the same time with a distinctly dramatic expression and deep, emotional human renditions! And I don't know how to explain it, but I get this feel from her, in her solo career too and particularly with NW, this sort of vibe of like a dark sorceress warrior, Morrighan-like bewitching powerful entity or something lol Therefore imo, one cannot hope to truly know Tarja as an artist without diving into her stunning solo work too. She's such an inspiration to me, her voice and renditions give me deep, spiritually magical Eargasms💘A-hem... Sorry about that😜. I just Love her so much! Her heavenly voice and work speak deeply to my soul. Anyway, without further ado, back to the list (also just a small selction, many more hidden gems for you to find out along the way): 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIWQiKytbtGMr68 . Song "In for a kill". Album "What lies Beneath" (2010). Performance from her 2012 first live-album "Act I". Bombastic! Hear the lion within her roar!🤘 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWS0noSEbLuGhKs . This is also from Act I, a kind of mixed version of two of her ballad songs ("Oasis" and "The archive of lost dreams"). Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, sort of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional performance! It brings tears to my eyes! It's sort of a "forgotten" treasure!😍 3. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKnUoJetgbuXmbc . "Love to Hate", this song is part of her 2016 album "The Shadow Self" and the performance recorded in 2018 for her live-album Act II, at London's Metropolis Studios, a more intimate setting, which makes it even more special. Outstanding, breathtaking performance, one of my favorites! Plus, the song has an unusual structure, it's awesome. 4. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqeXiYqhibyEZq8 . "Undertaker", also live for Act II, and another track from "The Shadow Self". Brilliant! You'll love this one, her energy is amazing and the song is epic! 5. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3jOk4SgbcppgKs . "Crimson Deep", also from "What lies Beneath" and performance, from Act I too. It gives me chills, I just love it! 6. kzbin.info/www/bejne/injNnJ2Ejb51jas . "Dead Promises", live at Masters of Rock 2019, and the song is from her 2019 album "In the Raw". Freaking awesome! 🤘Great guitar riffs that function as a driving force to the song. Many songs in this album actually have this same characteristic, I think you'll love it. 7. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaHbcmiAibloe8U . "Shadow Play", also from her "In the Raw". Link to the studio version for the epic choir and orchestra, but there is an outstanding live performance at Circus Life where she plays piano too, worth checking out.💘🤘 8. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqKQmJikeraBgqM . "Innocence", from "The Shadow Self" and live at 'Circus Life' in Bucharest, in 2022 (quite recent). Fantastic live version, no backtrack recordings or anything like that, everything literally live! Beautiful, it feels so alive to me, as the whole concert!! Worth checking out as well is the official video for context 9. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJCmgoGahceesK8 . That's a double 'cause I couldn't find a better live recording lol, so here it is: live at Luna Park Ride in 2011, first song is "Stargazers" by NW (from their album Oceanborn) but performed during her solo career, and following this she sings her own song "Ciarán's Well" (from her first solo rock album "My Winter Storm"). So epic, her operatic vocals and stage presence going wild, so much energy, sure you'll be blown away 🤩 10. kzbin.info/www/bejne/famnn5uYfLl9idU . "Victim of Ritual", live at Woodstock (Poland) in 2016. Insane great music inspired and built on Ravel's Bolero! Crazy vocals, wild energy, she's got such unbelievable stamina and ability to keep jumping and moving all around the stage while singing that way, with so much intensity, engaging the crowd and having fun! 11. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2bddpVrrauff6c . "Supremacy", it's a Muse cover, live at Woodstock too. Astonishing, thrilling high notes! 12. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r57EZaVvetWSocUsi=ffYuiRtg2LmxJknc . "The Reign", from her first rock album "My Winter Storm", but the performance from Act I. The song itself is alredy beautiful and emotional, definitely a hidden gem, and then what she does here..... So very touching😪💘, a unique moment that shows the deep bond, reciprocal connection of love and trust between Tarja and her fans. I can't tell you more, you have to witness it lol 13. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnradGqGbN90hc0 . "Medusa", from her "Colours in the Dark" and live at Metropolis Studios as well. Greek mythology driven, very different atmosphere she evokes here, epic yet mystical, mesmerizing, sort of alluring in a sense, I have not enough words to describe it lol. The studio version is a duet, worth checking out as well 14. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fajHp2OLlt2GpdU . "Anteroom of Death", also from Act I dvd. Awesome and a bit insane, love it! 15. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z57Vc319mbJolbcsi=iSCLrVdHidzqglu9 . "Eye of the Storm", the only new song in her 2022 compilation album "Best of: Living the Dream", which is a restrospective where she looked back to her career and handpicked songs from her six studio albums. She has such an interesting, remarkable way of putting hints that reference important parts of her personal and professional journey. And there's a unique mix of styles that she merges together, that's all I1m going to say for now lol 16. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHetnHaahLp4h8k . "Stand Away", this one is actually featuring Tarja. The song is by Angra, a Brazilian melodic power metal band, in a live performance in 2013 I believe. It's another astounding piece of art! Prepare to be blown away by the music and the voices!.. Also, I don't know if you're into classical music (I am, I'm a classical musician 😆), so should you wish to see her go full 'operatic' (I mean, her real classical singing so you can hear the difference), let me know and I'll give you as well a small list with videos of her classical performances, totally worth it! Thank you, mate! Hope to see you soon. And sorry for such a long, massive comment split in two, I might have exceeded myself, but I just couldn't help it 🤣. We fans are very passionate lol

Tarja is the most operatic of the 3 ladies. Tuomas' original plan for the band was acoustic mood music, her vocal abilities made him rethink that , and go with the symphonic metal route. Tuomas arranged this version, Andrew Lloyd Weber has seen it, and loved it. This was one of the best Nightwish concerts ,up to that point. All the guys knew it was Tarja's last with them, but she didn't know until after the concert. My favorite version of this, because of Marko. Floor has performed it with Dutch Phantom Henk Poort, most recently at her solo show opening for Metallica earlier this year. And last year with Nightwish in The Netherlands, the first time Nightwish has done so since this performance. Floor and Marko have not sung it together. Some say Jukka had a migraine, some vehemently argue against it, but he did suffer from severe insomnia. So much so, that he was forced to step away from performing in 2014, although he remains with the band in management. He called his friend, Kai Hahto from Wintersun , to take over.

@BemusingBill Tarja has a Christmas album out now, actually. Dark Christmas. Videos keep appearing on my feed recently. I've watched a few. They have mainly been her take on well known Christmas songs and carols, but there's an original song too... maybe more, I haven't seen them all yet. She performs them in elaborate outfits and pale makeup in a dark melancholic, yet lovely way in beautiful and eerie settings. Looks like she is channelling her inner Snow Queen.... if the Snow Queen were dark , but not evil. (Her original song has quite positive lyrics.)

If you'd like to hear their second singer next, then I'd recommend Scaretale kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3bQoYZuepyXaZI or Storytime kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqwhXd4l52kqNE Don't mind the toxic "fans" who glorify one singer over the others. All three of them brought something great and unique to the band. To be fair, Anette Olzon was put in a difficult spot, because her voice and more of a "pop-rock" approach weren't quite suited for many of the big pieces that were written with Tarja in mind... Nonetheless, she did great on the new stuff. Also, make sure to check out Tarja's solo career! She's mastered her technique and is now in full bloom. I recommend her Victim of Ritual, performed in front of 600,000 people. kzbin.info/www/bejne/famnn5uYfLl9idU

Not to negatively reflect to this performance, but this concert marked a pivotpoint in the history of Nightwish. This was the final concert Tarja sang with Nightwish. Hence the title of the DVD "End of an Era". This story becomes important in future songs. Tarja was given a letter firing her, directly after this concert. There was huge drama and outrage for that. If you take out anger and drama here is what happened: Tarja HATED living on a tourbus. As NW broke through international, tours became longer and longer and they spend more and more time on that bus (up to 15 months). Tarja had a different view on how to spend her life and announced to the band she would eventually leave the band , but was not in a hurry to go. A deal was made to do 2 more albums and tours together and while touring Tarja would fly-in and fly-out as often as possible instead of travelling by bus. During the first tour the band felt the deal wasn't really working for them, Tarja wasn't pulling her weight (meetings, promotions, practice), but they managed. But then on top of that the first tour got stretched (adding 4 months to the schedule). Tarja wasn't there in meeting (on the bus) when the band agreed to stretch the tour, so she was mad as hell and felt this was a breach in the agreement they had and tried to have the extra shows CANCELLED. Her wish to cancel sold-out shows felt like a stab in the back to the rest of the band. They decided they would finish the tour together, but then say goodbye and not do the second album and tour they had initially agreed on. The firing letter however was published the next day, full of immature anger instead of a proper goodbye of someone that brought the band so much. (hence the drama and outrage)

I can only imagine the stress the guys in the band were under knowing what they knew. When my band decided to fire our original bassist we were all so very stressed out. He is such a good guy and we knew how heartbroken he would be but it had to be done. I'm sure in hindsight things would have been different but that's life. Thank you❤️

Greetings from Helsinki, Finland. Tarja was a first Nightwish vocalist. I saw my first Nigtwish gig at 2001 and i've been seen all their vocalist live. Now about 15 times including their last gig at Vaasa.

I just have one SMALL complaint. And I guess it's not really even a complaint, because I enjoy your channel, and your personality. Obviously, I'm here for your reaction, but I still wish the audio of the song was better. There's like zero bass. It sounds flat. For some reason, I have noticed that if a reactor wears headphones it tends to sound better. I have NO idea why. Though there are some who don't wear headphones and the song audio sounds good. I don't know. It's a minor complaint. It won't stopp me from watching you. But it's probably the ONLY reason I haven't subscribed. Oh, I forgot to comment on your other video from tonight : I absolutely love your wife!!!

Tarja is good, but once you announce your abdication from the throne, you kind of loose the title "real true queen".

There is another one with Floor and the rest of Nightwish + Henk from their concert in 2022 in Amsterdam. The background is Floor decided to participate in Beste Zangers upon learning that Henk (who played the Phantom in the Dutch theaters) was going to be on it. He was very influential to her and she fangirled. He agreed to do Phantom with her on the show on the condition that he would perform with Nightwish the next time they were in the Netherlands, and then the pandemic hit. So the Amsterdam video is a promise fulfilled

Right! She is the Queen of the stages! What I loved on Beste Zangers was that you can really hear her raw voice and to see them perform together and their facial expressions, OMG! And Henk being an opera singer and having nothing to do with metal makes it special @@paulsheppard759
