One of the best games that the ps2 had. Game was way ahead of it's time, and had some of the best graphics offered on the ps2. The boss battle against the sniper is still one of the best boss encounters I ever played. Being able to starve the enemy by destroying food supplies, or poison them with rotten food was a great concept. Hunting mechanic was killer, as was the healing mechanic. If you ate rotten or poisoned food, no problem just go into the menu and spin Snake around with the right stick for about 30 seconds, go back to the game and he would vomit and purge the bad food. Killer game need to replay it on pc.

Gimme your best shot with your crappy PC games that I have all played myself, and I will obliterate your arguments why Metal Gear Solid 1,2 and 3 are in many ways the king. The only games in these times that are also in it's own league just like Metal gear Solid is Final Fantasy, which when FFVII came out, it was the most expensive game ever made which came out around the same time of MGS1, while the rest of the games where so outrageously primitive. Western Game developers where just finding out that you could make a aim and click game called first person shooter, and for long this type of gerne has been dominating the PC industry because it's the safest genre to build in on the respective platform. Metal Gear solid is not only completely unique in it's totality, the gameplay is unique, the cinematography is unmatched, the story-telling was hollywood level when the rest of the games where more primitive than broken story tales for 4 year olds. World building, level design, all of it so far ahead of it's time. Music also. It took ages for the west, and endless observing MGS and Final Fantasy to get things on the rails. And I know this because I work in the games industry for over 10+ years and did other things related to it and study that was directed to it. I can tell that both the education as well as many companies completely took MGS as the bar to be at.

I played Metal Gear games on PSP and my friends who had PS2 always told me this was the best one...i finally played it on PCSX2 Emulator this year and less than one hour later, i can easily say i have never ever played anything like it in my entire life, the cutscenes, gameplay, mechanics, musics, detailing and hell even the graphics look good for me...It is quite honestly the best game i have ever played in my life and trust me i have played some real good ones.

1:16:30 The interval between the prologue and the actual game is one week, I always had a gripe with this. Going on a mission one week after breaking his arm always felt kinda weird. Also seeing such a transformation on Boss doesn't help. Her hair seems way longer and in a different color. It should be a few months, at least.

Yeah, i realized that as well. The time frame makes sense for creating a feeling of emergency, but Snake was nearly killed by Boss and only 8 days later hes not even back from the edge of Death, but also stronger than before. I really think they should have lengthend the time between the Prologue and the Return to the research facility somehow, or just dont even mention it at all.

I think it was a last minute edit. Maybe someone said, like, you know a month is too long for the world to be on edge, make it shorter and they changed it to a week. They left the Boss' haircut and thought that Snake's fast recovery can be explained by sci-fi type medical treatment.

Not for me. It’s my least favorite of them all. It has too many flaws that I won’t get into right now. One noticeable flaw is the unnecessary exposition in the beginning that’s poorly edited. While Snake is parachuting in the Virtuous Mission, it cuts to an overly long mission briefing. Then it cuts back to the halo jump for another twenty seconds or so. It’s a long intro that needed to be cut down. I love long shit, but here it doesn’t work. It’s unnecessary. Then we get the same thing for the Snake Eater mission. Then he encounters the Boss for a pointless cutscene. That scene didn’t advance the story in any way. I could go on, but I’ll stop there.

Not for me. It’s my least favorite of them all. It has too many flaws that I won’t get into right now. One noticeable flaw is the unnecessary exposition in the beginning that’s poorly edited. While Snake is parachuting in the Virtuous Mission, it cuts to an overly long mission briefing. Then it cuts back to the halo jump for another twenty seconds or so. It’s a long intro that needed to be cut down. I love long shit, but here it doesn’t work. It’s unnecessary. Then we get the same thing for the Snake Eater mission. Then he encounters the Boss for a pointless cutscene. That scene didn’t advance the story in any way. I could go on, but I’ll stop there.

I remember going to my uncle’s house for the holidays. He bought this game when it came out but didn’t like it, so he let me have it. I must’ve played it over ten times and never got tired of it. Now, at 31, married with kids, my excitement for the remake is almost childlike. I can’t wait!

So good depiction of the nature in this game. Something you wouldn't expect in a spy action game. Most of these features had been developed even more later on in MGS V.

This the first metal gear I bought way back on ps2. After finishing it I went back to the store to get part 2. I felt in love completely with the series. Years later, bought a ps3 and played 4, though it was good but I wasn't that impressed the way I did with mgs 3. I just hope these new devs don't mess up the remake.
