About the Fox Engine, since the game is made by a third-party company, and that you need an authorization for using it, they might just wanna hold on an engine they are more familiar with. + the Fox Engine is now a 10 years old engine that might not fulfill todays expectation wether it's about the physics or the particle effects.

Another KZbinr once talked about the remake of MGS3 might look generic graphically when the UE is used, as many other games use the same engine. The Fox Engine, on the other hand, was an engine made especially for a Metal Gear game. I know, it's already a little old, but why not improve it or create an engine just for the remake? Regarding the game engine point. You have to keep in mind that an engine is just a tool for the developers to make a game. There's really nothing suspicious about it. I wouldn't be surprised if the change was caused by several factors including: 1. Fox engine may not have been updated for quite some time and UE5 will probably have many new useful features that Fox doesn't. 2. If they went with Fox engine, new developers on the project would have to spend time to learn it because it's an in-house engine, so going for a more known engine that has just been updated with new state of the art tech makes sense. 3. The costs of getting Fox Engine to the standard of Unreal 5 may not be worth it. It would also delay the game. The only real reasons I can think of the end user having an issue with the choice of engine is if that engine was either outdated or had a track record of producing issues for games. I think it's fine.
@AlexAdrift
@AlexAdrift Жыл бұрын
I just think it is weird to have your own in-house engine yet let it waste away. Not to mention, lose revenue by using Unreal Engine 5. Konami has made some terrible choices in recent years, but I'm hopeful this game could be a step in the right direction. Then, we might see them restore some glory to their franchises.

@@AlexAdrift Well again, it all depends. We'll assume that at the very least, they are going for enterprise licencing. it's probably custom but then I'd just be speculating on the deal they've got with Epic. They'd be spending $1500 per seat. In the grand scheme of things, for a company like Konami, its not that big of a deal. 3D software licences costs more and they're probably spending more on that. If they go and develop Fox, they then have to spend time and money doing that and paying more engine developers. Konami is also a self publishing company, so the more time that they spend not releasing the game, the more money they basically lose. It's a common problem for many self published studios. Perhaps they think that the cost of developing the engine and the time it would take outweighs the cost of paying Epic. A game engine is a massive undertaking to both create and maintain which is why most developers use Unity or Unreal.

@@AlexAdrift Absolutely. Consider mgs3 as a game in comparison to modern AAA games. It's actually kind of small. It's got roughly 60 locations and from what we've seen from the in-engine trailer, they're going to be recreating all that. I'd focus more budget into art and user experience and if UE5 as a tool helps them achieve that over Fox, more power to them.

Even when I was a kid I rented Twin Snakes for the GameCube. I just hope that Konami won't mess up this time, but it wouldn't surprise me if they f#ck up somehow. The collection's they've released over the year's are great. Just there's more of an impact with the MGS series. I for one loved the heck out of MGS 4 that I would play it so many time's. It was so fun with what you could do. I do hope that they will re-release MGS 4 in Volume 2. Don't know how they'll pull that off. But now that I am aware of buying them separately on Steam and others I just might buy MGS 3 and not bother with the second one. I don't know in the end. I do own them both and PW on my Xbox. Just having it on my Steam account or PS would be more convenient. I think they don't want to do anything that Kojima made like the Fox Engine. honestly, the retirement of the FOX engine is a good thing, it might look "good" but it has so many issues, like the slope engine is absolute dogshit. making it in UE5 seems like a logical choice. although, i remain skeptical, it looks gorgeous, i'm not insanely fond of how Snake looked in that close up, but it makes sense when it comes down to it since the jungle is an harsh place. but it looks too perfect too me, where is it gonna fail, what is going to get cut, what are the flaws, is it this perfect because they hand picked everything but the other area's aren't going to anywhere near this perfect? hey, surprise me, show me that i shouldn't doubt Konami, but the sound issues in MGS1 and 2 "master" collection (atleast mgs2's sound issues on playstation) and just in general the sound issues in mgs1 are unacceptable. (also the analog for mgs1 "master" collection simulates the d-pad with 8 way analog control) they got lazy with that and that was a straight up port of the PS1 classic and the HD collection, which they still somehow managed to screw up.

Yeah, my biggest concerns are, aside from the fact that they sabotaged Kojima back then - who has rightfully since departed the company after The Phantom Pain, they might just effect the one thing about the original I feel doesn't need to be touched; the bosses! I mean it can try all it wants to blow my mind (since it does look visually stunning I'll admit), but considering the series isn't the same without its creator Kojima by its side (lookin' at you, Metal Gear Survive!), and that certain elements like the boss battles might get unnecessary changes in which they're fine the way they are (say for the OG's second boss The Pain), I keeping my expectations low and I'm thus not really counting on it...

@AlexAdrift
@AlexAdrift Жыл бұрын
I think its easier. MGS1 would need to use Twin Snakes as more of a reference, because I doubt the remake would use the top down camera. Personally, they might also need to change the level designs because the first person shooting makes twin snakes incredibly easy, seeing as how the levels of 1 were made from a top-down perspective. MGS3 is a safter choice and closer to modern games.

I think like with silent hill 2 it makes more sense to remake the game in the series that’s the most popular, as much as I wish to see a remake of silent hill 1 it wouldn’t make as much money then a remake of silent hill 2 which is regarded as the very best of the silent hill franchise, same with mgs3 which is considered by many metal gear fans as the magnum opus of metal gear solid, so remaking mgs3 is the more profitable, at least that’s what I think

Why isn't the Fox Engine used for MGSD? The Fox Engine is a 10 year old technology, that only a tiny fraction of video game developers have any experience with, and those with experience have long left Konami. Unreal on the other hand is using the latest technologies (being released in 2020, and continuing to receive updates), while retaining what is practically an industry standard workflow. Everybody knows it, and if they don't know it, thorough learning material is at the ready. It is a genuine no brainer to jump to Unreal Engine 5, especially if you're Konami who have previously let go a lot of their game development teams.

People need to try and have a little positivity. Just trashing the remake because the game is owned by Konami (which is basically what a lot of people are doing) is going to get us no where. Not only that, it's going to kill any hope of Metal Gear remaining relevant in gaming. Konami will never sell the rights to the game, and unless this new remake sells well and people seem to still have an interest in the series, we may as well accept that Metal Gear is absolutely dead forever - no more remakes and definitely no continuation of the series. So maybe encouragement is the better approach instead of admonishment. I mean, the game looks fantastic so far. Why are we crying about UE5 and this fantastic look so far? Just because it's not the outdated Fox Engine? It's like people are just looking for reasons to complain.

While I do admit I sound like a whiny troll, I do believe there are justifiable reasons for my actions and opinions. I just don't think Konami has made good decisions for years, neglecting the fox engine included. I do not believe sucking up to Konami like a good little fanboy will ever save the franchise, but to be fair, outrage and negative publicity hasn't produced anything positive either. In my opinion, this is Konami's last chance to save their hardcore franchises, such as Metal Gear and Silent Hills. Despite how great the game looks, I will remain a skeptic until Konami proves otherwise. I will happily admit I am wrong, eat crow, and create videos praising the game if It turns out as good as it looks.
@AdoreYouInAshXI
@AdoreYouInAshXI Жыл бұрын
@@AlexAdrift No one said you should suck up to Konami like a fanboy. Let's not throw around strawmans like there is no middle ground. I don't disagree that Konami has made bad decisions (I don't know if I'd really say neglecting the fox engine is one of them, seeing as how they haven't put out any game that would utilize it other than Metal Gear Survive - which ran on the Fox engine). And I'm not saying you're wrong to be skeptical. But I'd at least hold off on making videos like this until there is a reason to be skeptical about this particular game other than the fact that it's IP is owned by Konami. If Konami really is trying to turn over a new leaf and make up for those bad decisions (which definitely isn't impossible, look at Capcom) then they'd probably be incentivized more by encouragement than automated negativity, even if people are right to be skeptical. All I know is I want Metal Gear to continue, and it's already going to be a difficult task for that to happen since it's been so long since the series was relevant. Many younger gamers have probably never even played a MG game. Like you said, this is the last chance for Konami to stay relevant in the console market that they've pretty much moved on from. Thing is, they don't really NEED to remain relevant in the console gaming market. They're making a ton of money in other ways. It would be super easy for them to just pull the plug altogether if this game (and their other reboots like Silent Hill) does poorly. So while I'm not saying to just blindly buy it regardless of the quality, let's at least give it some support while it's in development (and looks great, imo, so far). And I'm not picking on your single video btw, because there are quite a few videos like this one that have already been released. Complaining about the silliest things (one video was basically trying to get people not to buy the game simply because they're updating the combat to include more fluid gameplay).

I just think destroying your in-house engine, destroying your dev teams, and mismanaging your hardcore franchises are mistakes that warrant some skepticism. I like the move to unreal, but lets not pretend its not a solution to a problem Konami made themselves. They neglected Fox for years and sacked most of their devs that knew how to use it. I understand your points as well. I think giving them the benefit of the doubt or imparting some good will is most likely the right choice. The sad truth is, the team working on the game seems good. But, unfortunately for them, they have Konami as their overlords. You should always give second chances, especially when it comes to art. However...I will not bite my tongue out of fear. Fear that they will somehow or someway sack the franchise...AGAIN. They already destroyed Metal Gear once, they will happily do it again if it doesn't make them money. If Konami has shown us one thing, is that they don't care about bad press, good press, or fan loyalty. They care about money above all else. A dipshit on youtube, ME, isn't going to make or break the game. If you are worried about the franchise leaving, pray its good and buy 42 copies. I will suggest EVERYONE buy it, play it, then give your honest feedback. Despite my warranted skepticism, I will of course be buying the game and giving an honest outlook. You don't have to agree with my thoughts, but just know it doesn't come from a place of clickbaits or rage. I will be just as vocal if the game is a success, which, if you judge the limited gameplay, it just might be.

If they aren’t willing to give the originals the respect they deserve then I doubt they are putting much effort in the remake after all they don’t have to do much since the story is already written for them and it is telling when konami says these games have “outdated ideas”. Honestly why anyone would give Konami the benefit of the doubt is beyond me. When it comes to Delta, yeah of course it looks pretty, and publishers know graphics can sell A LOT of copies. Overall I take the same approach I do for basically any game. Expect the worst, hope for the best, and hopefully end up pleasantly surprised. So cautiously, very cautiously optimistic. Hope they pull it off. As for the use of UE 5. I honestly thought that was announced long ago. As soon as the trailer started basically I was like "yep that's Unreal Engine". IDK why but with a lot of games you can just tell by the look it's UE. But I'm fine with whatever engine it is as long as it's fun. But this is the same company that looked at the Silent Hill HD Collection and thought "yep that's fit for sale". PS3 version got one update that seems to have done nothing, and 360 version didn't get a single update. Then you have the Master Collection Vol 1. Goodness. MGS 1 is literally just a ISO and a PSX emulator which you can't adjust any settings on (resolution, toggle dif modes of texture filtering or scaling etc). MGS 2 and 3 are literally just the 360 versions of Bluepoint's HD collection. Probably why even on PC MGS 2 and 3 are res locked at 720p! Of course within hours modders removed that limitation. The audio for MGS 2 and 3 are so scuffed there are mods on the nexus to replace all of the audio in each game. How? By just copy pasting the files from the 360 HD collection. It's really sad. These games are iconic, and deserve much better for their "Master Collection". For many this will be the first way they play these games.

The master collection is awful and disappointing to most. I feel for the people that purchased it looking to experience MGS again or for the first time. Konami has a chance at redemption, a chance to restart its major franchises, such as MG and Silent Hill. Hopefully they don't drop the ball.

Konami will always going to find their way to get our approval, by baiting us with nostalgia. I mean their not the most honest company in the world, and always going to screw us in the end. As much I want to believe in this remake. I too share my doubts in trusting a company that screwed Hideo Kojima over. The guy who created this franchise for them.

Unreal engine 5 is far superior. It has nanite which means unlimited polygons. It has lumens which mean ray tracing like lighting all real time. No more baked in light maps. It has real time like bouncing and full real time reflections. What is there not to like in unreal engine 5

Oh I like unreal. For my own projects, I use unreal. But I didn't have an in-house engine I neglected after destroying most of my in-house dev teams. I don't blame them for "upgrading" their engine, but lets not forget how they handled their previous engine, employees, and licenses.

@@AlexAdrift I think they should remake metal gear solid 5 with unreal engine and finish the game this time.

@@TheFlatEarthChannelcom Yeah, would be cool. I think despite the drama and the insane work conditions, MGS5 still offers better gameplay then a lot of AAA games today. I'll always wonder what could have been though.

"Do you trust Konami?" Fuck no lol. The existence of Metal Gear survive murdered ANY hopes of me looking forward to anything metal gear from them. the fact they released the laziest collection of the games is just making it worse.

I don't know about Unreal Engine... but if a third party company developed the game and not Konami. I'm good with that.

True, never know, this third party dev might turn into the next Bluepoint. Look what Bluepoint did with Demon Souls. Konami staying away might be for the best.

Even if it does look like a really good graphical game, they’re going to be lazy and make us download it and not put it all on the disc or cartridge they did the metal gear solid collection. They didn’t put crap on the cartridge. if I was, I would take the game back and get your money back and not download it

Yeah, agreed. I didn't buy the collection. Glad I didn't, which is sad, because I love Metal Gear. Hope they have some fixes before Vol 2.
