One thing i wanted to say when he said that world without snakes: no, the world wouldn't be better without snakes, it needs them to keep the rodents and pests in check that would otherwise spread doom and evil (sry don't know anny good words here). Snakes are already a vital part of the eco system, it may has existed without them bevore but ever since they showed up, the eco system has evolved with them. Remooving them would only leave a gap and chaos on what it should fill. We shouldn't cut of the line, we should should rather keep it and make sure that the next generation will be good and not make the same mistakes as we did. I would love to see snake taking out one of his syringes and injecting it into bb but sadly as far as i know it wouldn't help anny bit there

this was the best score even compared to Debriefing from MGS3. And that one gets me crying too. But this one, absolute tears are shed, because when you play the game for the first time, its a shock to you to learn that Big Boss was NOT the villain, he was simply trying to keep the world from spiraling out of control. But Zero did what he felt was best and screwed it all up. The most tear jerking part of it all was not just the salute, but Snake respecting Big Boss enough to help him with his cigar. That showed that Snake finally understood his "Father" better and has truly come to terms that he was not evil.

Big Boss WAS a villain. A Fallen Hero and Well-Intentioned Extremist type of villain, but villain nevertheless. However, in the end BB realized and regretted his mistakes, he euthanized his old ally and friend Zero out of pity and not out of vengeance, he paid due to his dead mentor The Boss one last time and made amends with his genetic son Solid Snake, commending him for not becoming a "fallen hero" as BB himself had been, and telling him to live on and watch the future of the world that he had saved. He told Solid what the latter needed to know even knowing he was going to die from the FOXDIE in Solid's body. So BB redeemed himself at the very end of his life. This trope is called Redemption Equals Death. It also happened to a lot of other villains, e.g. Darth Vader. Just to mention one. But just to note that your remark about "BB not being a villain" is absurd. He most certainly was. Same type of villain as Darth Vader, "Fallen Hero" (was once a hero, but become corrupted and turned into a villain), "Well-Intentioned Extremist" (his goals were noble but his methods to achieve those goals weren't). He died in the same fashion as Vader as well, reconciling with his son. You'd have to be dumb af to not recognize both BB and Vader as villainous characters. Just because they died in good terms with their sons doesn't mean they were good guys. For most of the plot anyway. And the reason we like these stories is because we like redemption stories. Nobody says it out loud, but we like them because they're our own stories. The story of mankind is a story of redemption. We do mistakes in our lives, and when we realize we've fucked up, we become atoners. Sometimes we do correct our mistakes, but sometimes we can't, sometimes someone else fixes our mistakes, but other times, the mistakes go unrepaired. But whatever the case, in most cases we do realize the error of our ways and we do make amends before the big definitive farewell. Solid did not "understand that Big Boss was not evil", he simply forgave him. That means Big Boss, with all the good qualities he had, was still evil to begin with. Solid understood *WHY BB was evil,* sympathized with him (of course, for this to happen, BB had to show deep regret for his sins, and that he finally had understood what the Boss' good ideals were) and granted him forgiveness for what he did (like the former, this is implied by Solid's attitude of helping him walk to the Boss' grave and sharing that last cigar with him). BB made amends with Solid in order to rest in peace, and the last smile in his face is proof he achieved that final peace.
