@@chr1998is yeah it took me a while to learn to but mgs4 actually has nearly the depth and details of mgs3. It's one of those games where it's easy to get nothing out of it, but it's incredible once you learn how to enjoy it and see it for what it really is. And that goes for its story as well in my own opinion

4:04 That's not a theory, that's just bad fan fiction. Solid Snake smoked because he enjoyed them. After Naomi berates him for smoking and goes on a rant about how bad they, Snake replies, "You know a lot about science, but you don't know how good a cigarette tastes in the morning." Not only that, but in MGS4 he's not smoking or trying to smoke all the time for any reason other than wanting to smoke because he enjoys them. It just so happens that they can be useful on a mission for seeing IR beams and calming your nerves. But they give you away to the enemy due to the cherry of the lit cigarette or the lighter, the smell of the smoke, or from the ashes or a dropped cigarette butt. He's better off not bringing them on a mission, as the risks outweigh the practical uses. Snake likely started smoking in his teens, like most smokers do. Or when he first joined the military, he was in the Green Berets and fought in the Gulf War, and the stress of war or just going through boot camp can push someone to pick up smoking. My point is, Gray Fox recommending Solid Snake to start smoking is a theory with nothing from the series lore to support it, and from a logic standpoint makes no sense. It's just another case of random fans trying to make connections with things that don't need to be connected. Edit: Now, Gray Fox giving Solid Snake the advice to use the cigarettes Snake already had with him is fine. But Gray Fox handing Solid Snake a carton of cigarettes and saying, "SMOKE UP, DAVEY!" did not happen lol.

@@XeroLimitGaming snake taught Raiden that even if he doesn't like cigarettes they're useful on the battlefield. Which is the lesson people think gray fox taught snake

@@justanotheranimeprofilepic He didn't, though. He just said they have uses on the battlefield, then said he's sure Raiden will figure it out when the time comes. That's not teaching, that's giving a hint. But that doesn't matter, because my whole point was that Gray Fox did not tell Solid Snake to START smoking. And Solid Snake didn't tell Raiden to start smoking either. He actually tells him why he shouldn't smoke. But then mentions that they have uses besides smoking. Which is what I said is s said is possible to have been told to Snake from Gray Fox. So IDK what the disagreement is even about anymore.

I'm sure it is a rumour, or perhaps I made it up based on the dialogue from MGS1 and MGS2. But do the cigarettes "calm" your nerves when using the PSG1? In other words, can cigarettes work as a substitute for the pentazemin?

Regarding Ocelot's bomb, you technically don't equip it to get rid of it, since you interact with it the same way as Rations so you don't need to go out of the items menu. Your cigs wouldn't even need to be unequipped at any point, so you let Meryl die for nothing... you monster. Edit: that was a sick full health to death combo on Liquid.
