Honestly a one to one remake is good. Improve the graphics and not change anything. But its more of a remaster then a remake then.

It's a remake in the sense that the game is quite literally being made again from the ground up, but is still based entirely on the original. A remaster is is something like the previously released HD Edition of the game which simply took the original PS2 version of the game, increased the resolution of the textures, upressed the image from 480p to 720p, converted the game to run in widescreen, increased the framerate to 60fps and called it a day. If you're looking for a remake that's effectively a different game from that which it's based on (an idea which I'd assume you got from the likes of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7) then I'd consider "reimagining" to be a more appropriate term, personally.

A remaster literally remasters the original assets to a better quality. This is a from the ground up remaking of the assets hence why it's a remake. The Last of Us on PS4 for example is a remaster as they took the original PS3 game and upped it's base resolution for the PS4. The Last of Us Part 1 for the PS5 however is a remake because they rebuilt the entire game from scratch (or at the very least used Part II's PS4 assets to build upon). If someone makes a shot for shot modern version of the original Wizard of Oz you can't call it a remaster of the original just because they didn't add anything new to the story.

For those still wondering about Ocelot. ocelot in all of his appearances was Heavily inspired by Lee Van Cleef most known for his roles in Iconic Western movies like For a Few Dollars More and The good, The bad and the Ugly. and in MGS 3 Was the only game where Ocelot for some reason had a way more Square Jaw copared to his other looks And this chance is to make him more in line with Van Cleefs and thus the rest of his Faces.

Basically, they need to remake this game, rather than remastering it. The problem is, this game is marketed as a remake. The intention is clear, to sell this game for full priced ($70). There are another games like this MGS Delta, Crisis Core Reunion and DRDR, both were marketed and priced as it should be, remasters and for $50. But it's not really Konami fault, everyone have a hard time understanding what is a remake and remaster. They are just smart taking advantage of the situation.

It's as much of a remake as Resident Evil (2002) was for Gamecube. You don't need to redo the entire game from scratch like RE2 or Final Fantasy VII remake did.
