A lots of folks completely failed to grasp the knowledge about Big Boss. What looks like a salute, was him discarding The Boss's memento after listening to Strangelove's speech about The Boss's final will. If you pay perfect attention to ending number 1, Big Boss vowed to never drop his gun. He felt betrayed by The Boss as a soldier. His respect towards dwindled after witnessing Peace Walker from The Boss A.I.'s action. However, it took him decades to fully grasp an understanding what The Boss truly meant. In the end, he did drop his gun, but he also helped Old Snake drop his before he makes a same mistake he did. He wanted Snake to stop and live normal to the end, something he never had in his life. All his life was being a soldier. In '84, he Sold the World alright. He sold the traitors around him. Kaz working for Cipher behind his back, Paz was a double agent and betrayed Big Boss, Huey sold Big Boss and the MSF out, the Government used him to kill The Boss and discarded him, and his comrades (Signit, Dr. Clark and Zero) betrayed him. His only trusted allies are Dr. Madner, Naomi, Gray Fox, Eva, Ocelot, and even Venom Snake. His men from the MSF days were loyal to him. Which is why Medic, Venon Snake, was chosen to due to his loyalty and a suppose candidate for the next Big Boss when they (Kaz and Big Boss) originally wanted to expand and needed someone to be their Eyes, Ears, and Mouth of Big Boss. Once Venom came to the realization at the end of MGSV (guns in the background are his soldiers fighting Solid Snake), he was distraught at first. But then, instead of being angry, he smirked and wanted to go through it as he believes in Big Boss and being one is an honor for the surviving MSF soldier.

Peace Walker is certainly one of the most underrated Metal Gear games, IMO. Though fighting wacky robots is certainly a bizarre thing to have happen in the in-game 70's, it still doesn't take away from its great storytelling. Personally, I love it!

It's sad when you think about it, here The Boss expresses that she just want peace (or the illusion of one since peace is kind of impossible considering human nature). But Big Boss only saw it as betrayal to their ideals, the ideal of a soldier, to live and die by war. His ambitions and his own goals blinded him of what The Boss wanted and he doesn't realize how misguided he was until decades later when he sees the aftermath of MGS4.

Ironically Solid snake who was supposed to be a clone of big boss became the clone of the boss
@theazureknight93993 жыл бұрын
@@ace9924 There's a big difference betwee Solid and The Boss though. The Boss was extremely loyal to her country and to the mission. She sacrificed everything for America's sake, not the world. The Boss wasn't female Jesus, she said it herself that, although she'd love to have a world where everyone would just get along and not fight, she is willing to give everything, including her life, for the sake of her nation and the mission. She even killed the father of her child (the Sorrow) for the mission. Solid Snake is a man who fought for freedom. He fought to liberate the world from the control of the Patriots. He was never as committed to his country as the Boss was. Truth is, the Boss danced at the strings of the Patriots of her era (the Philosophers) without ever doing anything to defy their will because "loyalty to her country". Big Boss' mistake that made everything go downhill for him was keeping the nuke he found in the remains of the Peace Walker. If he hadn't done that, Cipher would've left him alone. His obsession with Metal Gears and nukes are what caused his downfall.
@rune.theocracy3 жыл бұрын
@@theazureknight9399 I guess we can blame Huey and Strangelove huh? No I don't think that he simply had an obsession for nukes and metal gears, there was more to it. He became infatuated with false ideals of a true utopia that was never meant to be (Outerheaven, countries for soldiers) due to his experience with nations tossing away spent soldiers like garbage, like his very own idol the Boss. This added with his experiences in Metal Gear Portable Ops where he first learns of the first iteration of a country for soldiers by Gene attempting to make his own military state by convincing the starving and dying left behind Soviet Red Army garrison in San Hieronymo. Gene asked Snake to join his country, Snake refused ofc and beat Gene but that encounter stuck with him into Peacewalker where eventually he did break into the mercenary business and slowly to the events of Ground Zeroes and beyond his ideals of an "Outerheaven" became more twisted and wrong until he realized he messed up at around Metal Gear Solid 4 where we see him as a withering old man that dies of natural causes(?) or FOXDIE idfk. Metal Gear fans arguing about Metal Gear ideals of characters lore.
@theazureknight93993 жыл бұрын
@@rune.theocracy I played Portable Ops (great game btw) and yes, he got the Outer Heaven ideal for Gene. The thing is, had he not gotten himself that nuke and ZEKE, which is a walking nuclear platform, he would've gone down in history as a famous mercenary and nothing more. He wouldn't have become the world's boogey man like in the original series. Without a nuke, Cipher would've left him alone since he wouldn't be a threat to them. And also, since they have the sons, it would be redundant to keep trying to bring Big Boss back into their organization. Skull Face would also have no reason to attack Mother Base because, again, a non nuclear PMC is not a threat to them. MSF would just be another mercenary group, a highly successful one at that, but still just that.

What's so great about this moment, in my opinion, is that you never see it coming. At first when you hear the weird mechanical sounds and the melody, you're like WTF? Honestly, the game should've ended here. It was a beautiful ending. Snake finally accepts the name "Big Boss" and discards the bandanna - his last attachment to The Boss - and moves forward on his own path in life. Paved a nice way towards MG1 or MGS5. ...but then Chapter 5 gets tacked on. Big Boss is back being called "Snake" and his bandanna is magically back on his head. Gameplay consists of re-fighting bosses and waiting for the Professor to break out of the prison SEVEN TIMES! And all you get out of it is a lame fight with Paz, which probably won't serve any real purpose in MGS5 considering her fate in Ground Zeroes.

There will never be another game like peace walker, MGSV was the only chance and they blew It, even the collaborative monster hunter missions were far far more detailed and cared for than anything in V ever was. Feels bad man
@viewtiful1doubleokamihand2535 жыл бұрын
Really does. Good to know there are other people who found V massively disappointing. One of those cases when the game was good, as a game. But as a MGS game - utterly pathetic.

07:22 am I the only one who feels bad for peace walker? It looks like an animal in considerable pain

It's the Boss herself in pain. She became a martyr twice, in death and in the afterlife.

5:55 David Hayter delivered some amazing lines here. Say what you want about his performance in the rest of the game being too gravely but this is amazing.

Everybody is talking about the AI, The Boss, how Snake felt and shit... But let me ask you a question: where did Snake pull out that phone from? Did he carry a stationary phone to the battlefield? If that is so, where the hell did he plug it?
@goldencloud387 жыл бұрын
Loc It was the phone from Strangelove's van, most likely hooked up inside.

It feels kinda sad how I had no idea about the plot when I first played this or ever had played MGS3 back then so all The Boss stuff ended up having pretty much no meaning to me even after I'm aware of it :(

This game doesnt get the credit it deserves. I hated the graphic novel concept at first, but the story was excellent. If they ever remake peacewalker i hope the do cut scenes.
