Lots of people can play like Petrucci now. Michael Angelo Batio launched this style of playing and Petrucci was part of the second wave, along with Rustey Cooley, Paul Gilbert, Russ Parish. They can all play like that, and so can 100's of thousands of kids who learned from them. There have been much more technically impressive guitarists since, like Shawn Lane and even crazier guitarists have arisen since.

Some may outshine him in this area or that here or there, but no one...NO ONE...in this life time is as consistently dropping jaws and delivering the goods as a riff writer AND as a lead guitarist currently working in the biz. He's just that good and he's absolutely earned his status as such. Plus, he's a humble and cool guy, too, which is just the icing on the cake.

Lmao I’m trying to learn the under a glass moon solo and it really makes me appreciate his style. I’m about 90% through, but that hammer-on/pull off tapping part is seriously insane.
