It’s really hard to look at somebody in the eyes like that without it becoming uncomfortable. But, as you said, all I felt was the love and support they seem to give each other. The lyrics, the lyrics, the lyrics…they are just everything for me. I’ve been on so, so many drugs (prescription), since about 2001, that these lyrics just encapsulates my feelings about taking them that I can’t help but tear up every time I listen to this song. Walking around, floating in a chalk outline captured my experience completely. Powerful stuff. Please do “How to be me,” again with Chinchilla soon. She is an amazing artist herself. I think one of REN’s superpowers is his ability to surround himself with equally talented people. He has introduced me to so many other incredible artists. Love your reactions…and your cat! ❤

This song is about losing yourself in medication, but being scared to not take it because you don’t know what to do if you feel ok. This is one of my favorite Ren songs, and it is catchy, but the lyrics in much of his music always have so much meaning. Now you also get to check out the brilliance that is Chinchilla! So happy this song moved you, Omar. I think it is about the feeling of empty nothingness brought on by the heavy medications. Plus the shock and disappointment of learning the meds do not help, only separate a person from his feelings, thus becoming a walking Chalk Outline. When terrible thoughts flood the mind, these emotion-killing drugs create worse mental problems. I think Ren's song is about this, but I also see the Love of their mutual musical creation, this awesome performance. Chinchilla, here as Ren's emotional echo, repeats his words and sings the last notes of the song just as an echo would do.... The whole performance is Ren's story-telling brilliance compressed into this jewel delivered to us by two truly Amazing performers! These two super-charged Talents perform seamlessly in dramatizing Ren's drugged disassociation and his mind struggling to be free of the drugs. I put Chalk Outlines up there as one of my tip top Faves! It is truly brilliant. Thank you for loving it, too 💜

The joy on your face was really such a delight - sometimes a smile is more powerful than words. I definitely feel that connection between them in this song. One thing I started noticing in a lot of Ren's videos where he's performing with someone else is that there is often a moment where Ren will lock eyes with someone (he does it briefly with the bass player in Back on '74 for example) and there's just this amazing thing that happens where the music just starts to sparkle. That shared love of music is something you can feel. It's one of the things that draws listeners in too. That's why I loved his live performance so much! Great reaction!

Bummed! Missed the live! I was waiting too!😢. I’m done! One of my all time favs! Their chemistry is insane. She backs off to highlight him and vice versa! Sometimes they seem like one!!! So you must watch How to Be Me by Ren x Chinchilla!!!!!!!!!!! Now how did I feel. It gets me so emotional I can hardly speak. I’ve had such a long journey with antidepressants/anti-anxiety meds. And they really like talking about how they can dead your emotions so you can’t feel the low, but can’t feel the highs either. Dead feeling- in a chalk outline. Story of my life. Being OK causes more fear and anxiety because you know it’s temporary. Just so you know when people learn your story there will be such an outpouring of compassion and relatability. You have no idea. It makes me think of an old love of mine who had so much pain from his past that he tried to bury in drugs and alcohol. He tried many times but couldn’t get that monkey off his back. He has been missing, presumed dead for 3 years… 😞 This song was also a catalyst for me to search harder in my own toolbox to deal with depression and anxiety in more healthy ways. I've thought about the connection Ren and chinchilla have when they duet. Chinchilla is the performance persona of a very shy girl named Daisy. She had no experience with busking or the kind of live stuff Ren does. So I imagine Ren saying to his musical sibling "just look at me and only me, ignore everything else and we will nail this "❤ and they do

Chinchilla has indeed stated her first busking experience was with Ren. But in terms of Live stuff, Chinchilla was already experienced with the filming of her own videos, plus her live gigs, festivals and touring with Sting and McFly. Not to mention of course Chinchilla showed similar eye contact chemistry in her performances with NOËP, nearly three years earlier than when either of her live Ren collabs were filmed (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hafceZ6vjNZ1oqs). Chinchilla comes from an acting/performance family and would have learnt her craft there first.

I was put on antidepressants that definitely didn’t work for me. I was already on so many medications. I was a chalk outline. I think it’s called cherophobia - The fear of being okay. Thanks for this one Turk 🫂🫂❤

I didn't feel the love you were talking about, not romantically, but there are certain people who really get me. They just do. I feel the shared trauma, pain, frustration, goals, or joy and the connection of finding that person who has been there. I had breast cancer; I had so much support and love during that journey and wouldn't trade it for the world, I'm so blessed! But ... the person who understands the most, the emotions, the 3 a.m. thoughts, the worry of leaving people who depend on you uncared for if the worst should happen, existential thoughts, life, death, the meaning of it all ... that's a connection you don't get with someone who wasn't been there. People can understand your feelings without feeling and living them viscerally, you know? Again, not to in any way discount the love and support of people surrounding me, my God, I was so lucky! I have a strong, solid, loving tribe of blood and chosen family that took care of me in every way possible and wrapped me in their love, but even someone who has been a caretaker for a loved one with cancer or some other possibly terminal illness... they get a break. They can go to the movies and forget for a couple of hours. But if you're the one with cancer, sure, you can go to the movies to try to distract yourself, but the cancer goes with you, you NEVER get away. No one understands it at a cellular level unless they've been there. THIS is what I see when I watch this video. The visceral understanding on the deepest level and the craving to have someone just ... get it. Get you, get your shared experience. And of course, it's ALL love, just not the romantic, you're my soul mate kind of love. Or maybe it is for some people, that's not how this one hits for me. But the beautiful thing about music is that one song can mean a multitude of things to different people. And then people find a chat, like this one🎉, to discuss whether they are in total agreement or have different experiences. The human condition can be beautiful, my friend. 💕

Great reaction. I can honestly say I've never thought about love in a positive way while listening to this song. I identify heavily this song and from the opening lines - about being in a bed that you crawled in and wishing you were someone else - it made me feel like I'd been gut-punched. Yes, the song reminds me that I'm walking around in a chalk outline; hollow; alive but not living. Obviously, that's depressing, but the song also provides relief to the anxiety that I'm not the only one feeling like this. I feel gratitude that Ren wrote this. I shared the lyrics in therapy to explain what I've been feeling. Unfortunately, the thoughts about love I've had listening to this are about the lack I have for myself. The positive thought is on recognizing that it bothers me. Im bothered by this feeling of disconnection. There were many years when it didn't bother me, so at least I've improved. I look forward to your reactions. Chinchilla is an amazing talent, but her nusic isn't my preference. However, I FLOVE her recent, "1:5 (live)." Gorgeous sound and very relatable lyrics.

If you analyze the guitar pieces in Hi Ren they are very melodic but just different. I hope you continue to enjoy his art. An interesting aside ... Chinchilla's videos nearly always feature's some form of eye contact motif, whether directly with the audience or with the party she is collaborating. Her songs Elements, Fabulous and Fingers videos are examples of audience eye engagement, whilst her Ren and NOËP duets feature eye contact with her singing partner. Chinchilla recently took this a step further, with her 1:5 song's live video where the audience is invited to watch through the eyes of a mystery observer (fourth wall style), who blinks at certain points throughout the video.

You also need to now branch off and do some Chinchilla reactions, her music is definitely different what you are used to but it is cool and certainly unique. Fingers (live for hunger tv) or little girl gone (MV) would be my recommendation for a starting point.
