OMG! Mechs?! Tanks?! Dinos with armor?! Aliens?! Monsters?! In a JRPG?! Whoah!! A little rough on the graphics but gameplay, customization and the upgrades look like more than make up for. Gah dude! I was really pumped for this, as probably the biggest series fan in the West. I love the setting, the xenogears-esque in and out of machines swapping, and the BATTLES which are so satisfying.

So happy you liked the game. I got the game on pre order as I think it may be hard to get down the road. I got one of the Metal Max games on the DS and had fun with it but it was in Japanese so did not know what was going on. Can't wait for the game now :)

I've heard of the Metal Max series, but never looked into it. Learning that this game incorporates turn based combat makes me automatically more interested. While the lack of story does hamper my excitement for it, the positives you've highlighted in this review have made me excited to eventually jump into it. Maybe not at launch, but sometime down the line. Thanks for the review! It was nice to see a positive take on the game since a few others I've watched were quite down on it overall.

And I also saw where the devs have canceled a sequel so this looks like the final hoorah for it in the West. But yeah it definitely has a fun gameplay system but story is pretty lacking. Nice review! If I heard correctly this is not a sequel of the Metal Max Xeno that was released some years ago on PS4 but a complete overhaul where they've basically reworked everything. Because I played the previous one and oh boy was it a mess! The controls were awful and it lagged a lot so I played one evening and put it back on the shelve and never touched it again! But since you're saying that the Reborn version is such a great game, I might be tempted to buy it, because I mean come on, who doesn't like tanks 🤣! And it's an Rpg as well! Great video and keep up the good work!

Yeah I haven’t played the PS4 version but I felt this was a really unique experience. But now the combat is similar to like final fantasy 12. It clicked with me but yeah you’ll have to let me know if ya try it in the future. Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks! Yeah gameplay wise it hooked me bad. Other reviews seem to not be meshing with it but it clicked with me. Also the sequel is canceled so this may be it for the series in the West sadly. Hoping it gets green lit again!

I'm half way through my hardmode survival playthrough and omg it get so much better the second time around I can't wait till I get to ragnarok mode. I did have 2 crashes and 1 soft lock tho soft lock was getting out of tank talis just kept walking on top of the tank and no buttons did anything so remember to save often.

Hmm... so far watched two reviews on this, yours is glowing and the other is basically saying avoid. Clearly two different tastes affecting both reviews, so I'll continue checking out some others that reviewed it too before deciding. I finished the OG Xeno and am now playing Reborn and I can tell ya I'll likely have agree with the avoid Reborn striped like 95% the story out the game, Art style looks like someone hit everyone with a baseball bat, changed the whole combat system of the game, nuked # of the dungeons and the models look oddly plastic Now they did few little changes do give few points to but honestly over all I find OG Xeno better myself but I think what one ppl like will depend mostly on if want more story & turn base or if hate story and like more "FF12" style combat of Reborn Both games have there endgame open world loop system after finish the game so both have same idea with in there "style" of gameplay To me its real shame that OG Xeno was delisted meaning over time its hardcopies vary likely to go up in price

i love this game to death. I played the original Xeno so much, but when this thing launched I was blown away. The combat reminded me of FFXII, wich for me was a nice plus. I feel like the story could have been better presented, but, and I think we need to be honest about this, the original is a little childish with the whole "lets repopulate the earth" (you can't really repopulate with so little characters). Everything else is just peachy. I also think that some people were a little too harsh in their reviews, even criticizing things that were common in the original SNES games. I rate this a 8.5. also RIP Kadokawa's CATLLE CALL

The only Metal Max I've played was Metal Saga on PS2. I bought it on a whim, and during the first play, I definitely hated it due to its graphic, as well as not knowing what to do (I was an idiot back then as I even couldn't find the Buggy as English isn't my L1 or native language). After getting my first job, I decided to give it a second play, and oh man, it was an amazing experience. Lot's of modification, and crazy enemies, but the random encounter can be quite annoying, in my opinion, but not tooo bad as if you wanted to rage quit or throwing away the controller. The mini-games are okay to play, but the core gameplay was looking for tanks and vehicles to own and modified. Sadly, my PS2 died in 2008, but with PCSX2, I managed to finally complete Metal Saga. In the end, I must say, the Metal Max series is not for everyone, but if you love tinkering vehicles, tanks, fighting absurd enemies (soldiers tied to balloons, one of them) and bosses as well as JRPG, give it a try.

@@lmaocat759 No kidding.... I remembered encountering Eagle 1, and with no anti-air weaponry equipped, it obliterated my entire team. Some bosses can be beaten with stock vehicles and weapons, however if you over leveled and upgraded, most bosses are just a pushover. Well, most of them....

difficult is unbalanced.. start is very hard and then it gets to easy. once you got 3 tanks you roll over anything.. cept flying monsters. original was better balanced in that case

I wish they never delisted the original. It did not look like an early PS3 game. It reminds me too much of the scenario in Hyperdimension Neptunia (OG, 2010), with rough models and lighting.
