"HIP" is mainly a diss track against haters who did not like Hwasa's (she composed the song and wrote lyrics) look, her behavior on stage and clothes ("President Hwasa was dressed ridiculous at the airport"), and because in Korea this overlaps often with fanaticism of other artists' fanbases, there are a bit of those haters and they can be very annoying, and it is at them that Hwasa spits at some point. Meanwhile, no matter what you wear or what you do in your life, just love yourself, do what you like and you can always be hip. The whole concept of the album "Reality in Black" (BLACK is an acronym for Bless Life and Carry Knowledge) is actually an attempt to answer the question of how much you can change yourself while remaining yourself (in 4 universes). But to better understand this, before listening to the album (I highly recommend it!, my favorites are "4x4ever" and "High tension", for now :), It's worth watching all 12 teasers (3 alternative universes X 4 members) which Mamamoo dropped on YT before album realese (e.g. Princess Solar, escaping from the palace to the gym to train before a boxing match).

@@MTetzke It's not that easy in Korea. There is still domination of the Barbie doll cute pattern in the Korean show business. Psy (this guy who sung "Gangnam style") recently began to gather to his label the performers more exposing their femininity and sexiness (Jessie, Hyuna). I suspect that Mamamoo will cost this spitting gesture, but, apparently, the girls have decided that they have enough of this, regardless of the cost. But, yes, they are Queens :)

Also the lyrics reminds me when they first came out, they were dissed as an "ugly girls group". Well, they have just won the Queendom with the first female solo comeback stage and are working on their next album. They used to be shy girls working so hard and now they are vocal queen.

Yeah Mamamoo do not lipsync cause as they put it, they are bad at lipsyncing. They are not using hand mics for the first time ever cause they wanted to focus on the dance. They got famous dance choreographer Lia Kim to create the dance.

Basically they never lip sync. The one and only time it happened was one of their first times overseas in NY, where organizers told them p much everyone lip syncs and it's highly recommended-- they 100% own up to it and actually sucked so badly at it. XD Since this was a diss track, the idea was they showed different fashions, included lyrics of what they've all been criticized for ("she's crazy," "panties sticking out," etc), from the start some people said Moonbyul was useless so they had her sing and a major high note in the album, and others said they can't dance hence one of the most prestigious choreographers (Lia Kim) making the rather difficult choreo for them and requiring them to transition from hand mics to head mics.

FYI, for those who don't know: Hwasa wore a cute/chic top that was "too revealing" so Knetz were judging her saying she should not wear that to the airport because it is as if she is just wearing a bra. So Hwasa goes to the airport the next time in a plain white t-shirt and doesn't wear a bra (since those people told her not to wear 'that' bra). This whole song is 1/2 a diss track to those judging/hating knetz and 1/2 about confidence/loving yourself for who you are

leaving aside the amazing vocals, choreo (by Lia Kim), visuals and music base...the LYRICS! This is a dissing song for all stupid and hateful comments Mamamoo keep on getting for their outfits, they're telling all those people hating on them keep on clicking and zooming like an obsessed but everything about us is hip. Hip means cooler than cool, the pinnacle of what is "it", beyond all trends and conventional coolness. Mamamoo are telling us whatever you are and whatever job you have, you deserve to be blessed and acknowledged for what you do not for what you wear. They comeback with a FULL album, 11 beautiful songs with wide wide wide music genres. Hwasa co-wrote and co-composed the title track 'Hip'. About the Universe concept everything starts with Destiny, the song they performed at Queendom. There are 4 universes in the 1st one Moonbyul, Solar, Wheein and Hwasa are the members of Mamamoo but in the other 3 they live different lifes and do different jobs but in each Universe the meet with each others in some way because it's their destiny. Ah! The album was 1st on iTunes chart WORLDWIDE

Great comments about the vocals early in the reaction but you seemed to forget what you said by the end. Agree that they don't do showy singing in Hip but the vocal arrangement is what's driving the song and keeping you on your toes through their use of constantly changing style, timbre, phrasing and dynamics over what's basically a three chord ska/hip hop/pop song. The 12 teasers of the three alternate universes were for all the songs on the album not just Hip, though a few seconds of Hip was often included at the end of many of them. They each did 3 teasers playing alternate versions of themselves as everything from a mom to an environmental activist to the leader of a glam rock band to a CEO to the president. Images from the teasers were included in Hip to indicate that any choice you make in how to live your life is hip and worthy of respect. If you haven't seen Mamamoo rapping then you should check out Sleep In the Car and 1 CM/Taller Than You. If you want to see your girl (make that OUR girl lol) Solar rap then watch Good Luck from Queendom.

This is the first time they have all worn headset mics. Since they are excellent singers they prefer and always normally perform with handheld mics. Solar said she is not the biggest fan of the headset mic, but because of the choreo they don't have much of a choice

They tried lip sync before, it didn't work out for them, they are too used to being vocalist, that following along was too hard for them. P.S. has anyone everbwondered if Moonbyul ever gains weight, you can always tell woth the others, but with Byuli, you can never! My theory its because she is always wearing clothes or sometimes shirts twice her size, like the only time I noticed she probably gained like maybe 2 pounds was when her face was puffy in a show a few years back. Not trying to be shady, just a thought.
