Metal has become SO predictable, stale, and, boring. Then, there's Jinjer. They're not afraid to sound different, to experiment, and, to combine new, unexpected influences. They're the first band since Mastodon that's rekindled my interest in metal. Super stoked to see them for the first time October 1!

This song is 7 Nicks out of 5. That heavy blast fit exactly PERFECTLY for the theme of the song. It helped helped tell the story. It got blast beat heavy at exactly the time magic of the potion took hold. It was the chaos of the moment he was in. That moment he realized he was fucked.

You can tell that the band were influenced by a lot of bands that were doing the rounds back in the late 90''s/early 00's as there was a lot of genre mixing back then that never really went mainstream. Dubwar/Skindred are the obvious ones, but Deftones used to fuck with reggae in their early days as well. I was a big Meshuggah fan for years but the whole djent explosion really left me cold as it all became incredibly contrived really quickly. Jinjer drew me back in, I've not heard anyone do it so well for a long time.

Say what you like, Nik, but at least you can't ignore the bass, not when it comes to Jinjer. Imo, Eugene is definite top 3, the other two being Les Claypool and Cliff Burton. In no particular order. . I mean, they're each ridiculously talented at what they do, but as a unit, they may be the most apparently naturally talented band this century.
