I remember seeing King Diamond on the Abigail tour. The "white metal" band Trouble opened for them here in Denver and was really outstanding and professional. After their set, the crowd started chanting "Satan! Satan! Satan!" and kept it up for a long time until King Diamond took the stage. He had a cool theatrical show back then. He had the goat skull's horns wrapped in flash paper which burst into flames. He also had flash paper on the back of his black cape which was put into a shape so that when ignited it made an upside cross of fire. If you were up close you could feel the heat from those pyros. I saw just about all the main touring acts in 1984-1990 and nobody was half as memorable as this guy.

Agreed, The Puppet Master is one of my favorite King Diamond albums. It's the perfect blend of a compelling, tragic story of cursed love and heart-pounding music with some nice experimental departures from the usual fare like 'Emerencia'. Then in the vein of 'No Presents for Christmas', we get another holiday standard with 'The Little Drummer Boy'. 'The Puppet Master' ranks among King Diamond's best, imo.

Saw him back in '88 on the Abigail tour and was honored enough to catch him doing it again in 2015. It was my wife's first metal show ever and she was absolutely blown away! Thanks SO much for talking up The Puppet Master. It irritates the fuck outta me when I read or hear negativity about that album. It is an absolute masterpiece and, for me, it sits on the exact same level as Abigail. How ANYone can listen to that album and not fucking love it is beyond me.

I had to wait a few days to watch this in its entirety, I wanted to give it full attention. I finally did a few minutes ago, and I clapped at the end with a standing ovation from my couch (lol). The King is by far my favorite metal act, and you could not have covered him better. I have to say I completely agree with you on everything. Even the things I didn't agree with, I absolutely see your point you were making. Thanks for doing this, Hail to the fuckin King!!

"The Eye" was my favorite King Diamond album. "Them" #2 and "Conspiracy" #3. It was a great time to be a metal fan back then. All the now classics were brand new. I still remember putting a tape in the deck and pouring through the album sleeve, reading the lyrics as every song played, looking at the artwork (I really loved Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Death, Obituary, and most Death Metal bands for the artwork), and reading the liner notes (the thank yous and what not).

That was an epic tour. I caught it in Detroit. Was my favorite metal show I'd ever seen. The only thing that would compare would be seeing the King again this past weekend in Louisville. They were just as good this time around.

King Diamond and Mercyful Fate are so legendary, there overlooked by many that like Metal but his talent and the bands are unquestionable. I was a teenager in the late 80s and listen to all the heavy groups of that era but I never got into KD and MF. What a mistake, it took another 10 years for me to rediscover the genius of the King and I haven’t looked back. 💀🤘🏻

Seeing the, Don't Break The Oath, album cover on here took me back 20 years to a high school art project I did where I created the cover for a fictional magazine. My magazine was Road Runner Magazine with artwork from bands I liked under the Road Runner label. I put some Slipknot stuff on there, Soulfly, and of course the image from Don't Break The Oath. I'm pretty sure my teacher thought I was crazy but I got an A. Such a bad ass album.

Screaming Jay Hawkins is the true King of Black Metal and probably the great grandaddy of all metal bands. He used to sing while holding a bone... hmm, seems like another singer did this too but actually turned his into a microphone.

This is the first time I heard of this band and hear King Diamond sing. At first I thought the high pitch voice is not my cup of tea but as days go, the falsettos stuck with me that I started liking it like some sort of an acquired taste. I liked heavy metal when I was in highschool and now on my late 30s seing and hearing these bands perform , reminds me of why I appreciated the work these guys put in their craft. Thanks Razorfist for doing this
