I saw Raven on the "Stay Hard" tour when they came to Dallas. John was already using the wireless headset. During a bass solo he disappeared off the stage but kept playing and singing/talking/yelling into the mic. All of the sudden everybody turned around and looked to the back of the venue. He had made his way all the way to the nosebleed section, found a small kid up there, picked him up and brought him down to the lower level all while still one-handing the bass and singing. It was greatness.

I had the privilege of going to school with with John and Mark, memories of the Slatyford 6th form common room in the hot summers of the mid 70's when everyone in there played guitar, bass or was musical in some way. Massively under-rated act. I have loved them ever since they released 'Don't Need Your Money', which was one of the most important singles of the NWOBHM genre. I bought my copy, along with the first two albums directly from Neat Records as they had no local suppliers in my area of the UK and they sent me Raven stickers and badges as well. Such an energetic band. You can't go wrong with any of the albums, but I will personally always go to the debut as they were the forerunners of thrash and at the time I had just not heard anything ese like it - looking back from 2021 it is hard to understand just how groundbreaking it was.

I can't say I'm their oldest fan, but I'm one of them. I saw them at the Brooklyn Zoo when they first came to the US. it was insane. John had that explorer bass with the trem. His solo blew my mind. I think he's much better than Billy Sheehan and I LOVE Billy. Any time they played in NYC I was there. The L'amour shows were always a blast. I was at the Roseland show where Anthrax and Metallica opened for THEM! Live at the inferno is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded and it still is in the CD holder in my car. . I'm surprised it was omitted here. People shit all over Pack is back but it was almost like a prog album at times. Was it the right album at the time? Absolutely not! But still a great album. I lost contact with them in the 90's because I was in the Army and doing other things. The next time I saw them was at the L'amour in Staten Island. There were maybe 30 people there but they played like they were playing a stadium. I got to hang out with them back stage for a few minutes and I was totally awe struck. I didn't see them again until they were playing at the Vets club in Oneida NY on the Extermination tour. Once again for a small audience, but it mean't the world to me. I got to hang out with them for a little while afterward. Mark is truly an inspirational guy, coming back after a tragic, almosr career ending accident. John is one of my all time heros but they are the most humble guys when you meet them. Real gentlemen. They played Brooklyn last week but I couldn't go because I was away on a job. I'm glad to see them keep going. As far as home work with this band, it's been done for 40 years. The single for crazy world got me hooked. Their first 4 albums didn't leave my turn table until I got out of high school. I got everything up to pack is back on vinyl and I have everything except Glow on disc. I wish I could find that one. Then my collection would be complete. You can follow them at Ravenlunatics.com. And if you ever get a chance to see them live do it. they don't make them like Raven any more. Extra Extra credit, Party killers was a fans only album of covers that came out right before Extermination. If you can find that one you are a true RAVEN LUNATIC! Cheers. ROCK UNTIL YOU DROP!

I love this channel for covering some of these great old bands that kinda slip under the radar of the heavy metal collective unconscious, and Raven is a great example... I was incredibly surprised to find out they weren't just still releasing albums after the '80s, they are still releasing new albums to this day! They were surely highly influential on the speed and thrash metal thing - contemporaries of Motorhead and Venom, managing to do much the same thing that those more famous bands did but in their own unique way - but somehow almost nobody ever seems to remember who they are. Sure, that athletic gimmick was never going to carry them far into the cynical '80s and was bound to disappear fast, but Raven had more going for them than just goofy costume uniforms, with some really solid early extreme metal without straying far from their original sound even through the difficult 1990s, and they really had talent, personality, and a stage presence and energy that should have left a longer lasting impression on historians, audiences, and critics than they somehow did. It's sad to hear about some of the tragedies to hit the band over the decades - heart attacks and injuries and so on - but it's great to see that Raven are still around and still sound great!

Thanks to you and this channel I am into a lot of bands I wish I read about while in high school. I graduated in 2015. I am a Heavy Metal, Rock + Roll fan. I credit my uncle for getting me hooked on the 1980's glam rock era. At age 17 I got a brand spanking new record player. One of the albums my uncle gave me was the 1987 hit Girls Girls Girls by Los Angeles icons Mötley Crüe. God that's such a wonderful album. After that the music just kept coming to me. Pretty soon I was into Ratt, Skid Row, INXS, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne. I got into Ozzy in grade 11 after the high school band played an instrumental version of Crazy Train. After that it was Bark at The Moon, Mamma I'm Coming Home. After Ozzy it was Iron Maiden. The Number Of The Beast defiantly the album that placed me in the Metal World. Been with the metal genre ever since.
