The Planishing Hammer has long been used in metal fabrication and restoration to smooth large areas of metal, welds and gentle panel crowning.
19.63 Inch throat depth
Works on up to 18 gauge steel
Includes 1", 2", and 3" crown anvils
Adjustable hammering intensity
Convenient foot operation
Optional stand mount or bench mount
The sturdy frame with a generous 19.63” throat depth, is beefy enough to smooth 18-gauge steel! A quick release allows the lower shaft to slide down to accept panels with deep flanges and facilitate fast Anvil changes. The power head adjustment controls the intensity from light to very powerful hammering. A convenient foot control starts and stops the hammer.
The sturdy steel stand is built for the Eastwood Planishing Hammer. Hollow design with 2 plugs that enables you to fill the stand with steel shot sand or other dense material to absorb sound and vibrations.

What’s with all the complaints? Use your imagination. It’s about shaping sheet metal. I might have explained things a little differently, but I think he did a fine job of explaining the tool and how it works.

In my artwork I put homemade dies together and drilled a hole through them. A half of hole in each it works well to straighten round bar. I also recommend buy an extra set of dies. I hammer out welds and other things I don't use my finish dies on. Thank you very much for this excellent video.

I do art work and I planish the leaves. I have a bead roller but it's faster making a grooved die and anvil. I made a jig to hold the die and anvil from turning. This also works well for shrinking but putting bends around my part. This little tool has many more uses. I Use it a lot. Sometimes miss use but it's built to be worked. I filled the arms with sand. Seems to help. Great video...

Matt, pertaining to the question of stretching and shrining. When you went to the sand bag and beat on the material at the sand bag you were STRETCHING. and using the planishing hammer you were shrinking. You continued to babble abour shrinking. It would help if you took a Ron Covell class on metal shapping..

Can you shape 16ga 3003 aluminum with it?
@johnparrish9215
@johnparrish9215 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, in fact since aluminum is soft it will shape pretty fast. However, if it has been work hardened, you will need to anneal it to make it soft again.

John Parrish thanks John for the information. I need to make a bicycle fender more or less out of a 3”X24” piece. I am making Blades for kinetic wind sculptures. I need to make a radius curve all in the same. Now I have been hammering them out on a sandbag and plastic mallet. I anneal the aluminum before I start. Will this hammer do what I need to do? Thanks John

@@JohnDavis-yz9nq Yep, the planishing hammer will do the job. Kinetic Wind Sculptures like the ones in the 1996 movie Twister?? Man, I loved those things.
@JohnDavis-yz9nq
@JohnDavis-yz9nq 4 жыл бұрын
John Parrish yes the movie Twister has kinetic wind sculptures. People tell me everyday that my work reminds them of that movie. To make my blades I use a blacksmith swage block and a plastic mallet and a arbor press to form my blades and then go to an English Wheel to finish forming and take out the blemishes. I can form a blade in about 10 minutes. At one time I was thinking about a sheet metal power hammer but I didn’t want to spend 8 grand at my age. So I decided on an arbor press. Being a blacksmith I was able to make my own dies and tooling. I did spend the money on a decent English Wheel though. Not a harbor freight one. Around $800.00 by the time it got here. The arbor press was the best improvement I made in my process.i have never worked on a planishing hammer. Building these wind sculptures you always need something you don’t have. I wasn’t aware that you can actually form metal with a planishing hammer. I thought they were used to smooth out blemishes.

@@JohnDavis-yz9nq There are a great many anvils for a planishing hammer. The cheap ones come with an anvil that is almost flat and is only good for smoothing. There are others out there, seek them out. You say you have an English Wheel, look up Lazze's videos when he used his rubber band technic, the man can really move some metal with that rubber band.

It will stretch the metal, so the piece will become larger. Very slightly, but it will become larger because the hammering is thinning the metal and pushing it out.

😂😂🤣🤣🤣 This guy has no idea how to use that tool. He tried to demonstrate planishing out and flattening the dents. He destroyed the panel! He used way too much air pressure, and die tension. The panel was stretched to hell. Then he says “ and then you can also use it to stretch metal “ Pahhh! Job done.

Here is my question. Could this be used to hammer a gong? Cymbals are made using a Pneumatic hammer, and if you look up Paiste Gong Making, it shows the guys at Paiste Cymbals beating the gongs with HUGE hammers. What I am after is tons of hit marks so the gong gets more "wash"/noise in it rather than being "bongy" sounding. And it is about 1/8" thick.

For the most part, these Eastwood videos are terrible. If you're really trying to sell your equipment I'd recommend just letting Ron Covell do all of the videos. He's an extremely talented metal worker and he has the experience to constructively demonstrate the machines purpose. He demonstrates the capability of the machines with practical projects instead of just aimlessly running a piece of sheet metal through it, and at least does it with some confidence.

Well ....If you remove it from the stand you can use as a hand held unit to smooth out wrinkles on your car fender while it is still on the car. Very useful off the stand. Nothing new here.. Chicago Pneumatic makes a nice unit with a round tube, it's lighter. Oldie but a goodie.
