List of notable differences: 1. The game starts at night rather than day 2. The martian reveal happens before the final mission, with a hint of it in the first 3.The boss of the first mission is now one of the bosses in the first game, while the OG first boss now appears as a mini boss in a later mission

Interesting observation. In MS2, most of the enemies are the arab sheik guys. In MSX, it's more of a 50/50 split with morden's soldiers. Thematically I like 2 more because of progression with the bosses. I also prefer how the colors bounce from warm to cool, instead of the opposite. Also the shotguns are a bit more satisfying than some of the other weapons. X is definitely better from a technical perspective and overall variety. I'm glad both versions exist to prevent the experience from getting too samey.

Metal Slug 2 arcade had terrible slowdown. What I would've preferred was a comparison to Metal Slug X arcade as it fixed the slowdown issue and was all around the better game. That said, the PS1 didn't do that bad this time around.

The only draw back of the Playstation version is that half way through the levels the game had to pause for a while to allow the second half of the levels to load, The Neo Geo version loaded entire levels in one go so there were no pauses, that meant entire levels could be played through seamlessly. The Neo Geo CD version did have a problem of its own though and that was the slow down in game play when there was a lot happening on the screen, the performance would suffer from frame rate drops when the action became intense.

I suppose you're talking about Playstation Metal Slug 1 where the music has to cut out and restart mid game to allow for loading time. PS1 MSX fixed that.

If it wasn't for the slowdown, 2 would've been better. Sure, X had new guns and enemies, but it had three big letdowns. The first is color changes in the environment (Especially the train boss' background. A town burning _purple?_ Really?). They're all generally better in 2 except for mission 2. The second is the fact that they gave away the alien plot too early (in fact, it's right as you parachute into the first mission), while in 2 it was a surprise plot twist. The third is the enemy placement and boss changes. They put mummy dogs, but also entirely removed the arabs in mission 1 and put rebels, despite the fact that the arabs only appear there while the rebels are fought through the entire game. The bosses... Replacing the first boss with a recycled (and weaker) version of a boss in Metal Slug 1 and making the original boss a miniboss? Not to mention the early alien fights. Overall, the only thing they improved with X was the big version of the weapons and the slowdown fix.

@@LosPapus000 Por que Metal slug 2 tenía demaciados problemas de optimización incluso en el Arcade, por eso hicieron X, que se creó a la vez que metal slug 3 usando el nuevo motor que se creó para ese juego. X tambien tiene algunas realentizaciones, pero tiene muchos más enemigos y eso habla bien de la optimización, ya que si se hubiese hecho tal cual era el metal slug 2, no hubiera tenido ningun lag.

Seems unfair to compare 2 and X, since they weren't technically the same game, X was an updated re-release that fixed issues present in 2 that weren't to do with the hardware (slowdown) and made changes to other stuff (time of day, enemy and boss placement, difficulty, and the number of secrets, along with new weapons).

I played the ps1 version of Metal Slug and it sucked! Even the music suffer on the PS1 version and it is a CD format which means a higher capacity to add better soundtracks. Metal Slug X was a patch of MS 2. In my opinion, MS 2 is a better game if you only remove the slowdowns and add the narrator's voice-over. This is only my opinion. The infamous MS 2 slowdowns had to do with improper software optimization and not with hardware issues as many people claim. The Neo Geo was marketed as 24-bit; its CPU with an 8/16-bit Z80 coprocessor, while its GPU chipset has a 24-bit graphics data bus. The fact that they fixed issues in later sequels shows what proper software optimization can do, even with an aging hardware, plus the MVS cartridges are pretty much an extension of the Arcade board with the only limitation being the sound and graphical power. SNK had the freedom to keep adding as much memory and chip expansions needed at the cost of very expensive games selling for upwards of $250 to $399.

El lagarto de hierro es brutal en la misión final, en la parte de la nieve en el puente colgante de madera. En el 2 era muy difícil avanzar por ahí sin morir alcanzado por alguna granada enemiga de la de soldados contrarios que hay, en cambio en el X, disparando 10 o 12 lagartos te quitas de en medio a la mayoría de enemigos y puedes llegar rápidamente a la plataforma superior en la que te enfrentas una vez más al Rambo calvito de los enemigos.

as versões originais de MS2 sofrem de um crônico problema de slowdowns tanto em cd qto em cartucho por problemas de programação. O metal slug X foi justamente uma resposta a estes problemas e nos relançamentos posteriores de MS2 estes slowdowns foram corrigidos Neo geo no psx nunca foi uma boa experiencia devido aos inumeros cortes causados pela limitação de RAM. Recomendo o metal slug anthology do ps2 (q tb possui o MS2 corrigido) para uma boa experiencia de metal slug x, ou claro, a caríssima versão AES

+Arthur Collector concordo com vc, mas diante das limitações do ps1, o metal slug x de ps1 não faz feio não, dá par se divertir igualmente em termos de experiência em relação a versão Neo Geo Aes/ Mvs, diferente de outros jogos 2D para o Ps1 como por exemplo a série VS da Capcom em que cortaram a possibilidade de trocar de personagem durante a luta (principal essência do jogo)

Me quedo con el dos, por que? bueno admito que tarda mucho en cargar, pero dense cuenta que tiene mucho mejor calidad la version de NEOGEO CD. 1. Animaciones de sprites completas, en ps1 le quitaron muchas se nota de inmediato la diferencia. 2. El sonido en ps1 es malo admitanlo la neogeo ya sea cd, mvs o aes tenian un sonido excelente. 3. Las explosiones y el lanza llamas en ps1 se ven fatales por que aparte de faltarles animaciones se ven super pixeleadas parecen graficos de atari. Lo de la censura es dependiendo de la version de METAL SLUG X de PS1 que jueguen, la versión japonesa si tiene sangre, para los que se preguntan por que la comparacion no fue de MSX en ambas plataformas es por que en NEOGEO CD no salio MSX.

La cantidad de sprites son los mismos, lo unico es que el de la neogeo los hace mas lentos y ademas le agrega suavizado. Tienes razon, se nota la superioridad en cuanto a graficos y sonido, lo malo para mi a parte de la lentitud, es que le faltan ciertos detalles(Armas y gordura), tambien la voz del anunciador porque se escucha muy suave y no es tan epica... aunque debo agregar que yo recuerdo haber jugado el X sin censura, de hecho tengo dos CD's sobrevivientes todavia(Uno de hace 17 años que se queda muy pegado cargando por los hongos... que no se termino de dañar, otro que le vino despues obviamente pero no recibio mucha rosca como el anterior y aun sirve, tengo 23 por cierto xD).

Chori321 y Extil en si el Metal slug x lo hicieron debido a los errores que tenía el Metal slug 2 más que nada es esa la razón los mismos creadores afirmaron que metal slug 2 tiene muchos errores que no corrigieron así que empezaron a sacar esta versión del metal slug para poder arreglarlos además de agregarles varias armas enemigos ya conocidos más lo que tenía MS2 eso fue todo lo que hicieron para mejorar un poco más el juego

neo geo cd se quedo sin la versión x, metal slug 2 tenia esos problemas de ralentizaciones en AES y arcade, sin embargo la versión de neo geo cd frente a ps1 tiene mas fotogramas y me da la impresión que se ve mejor

Ps1 wins for two main reasons: The Neo Geo suffers from slow down in nearly every single game including this one! I had the Neo Geo CDZ. Second the price, Neo Geo cd version £200, AES £3000, PS1 I got it like new for £3.75. Who gives a shit if it’s not perfect!

PS1 wasn't meant for 2D games, lacked memory and its sprites could only be 8x8, Neo Geo CD didn't have it easier, either, although it could move 16x512 sprites, it had a limited amount of RAM, compared to its cartridge counterpart, and a 1x CD drive, loads were too slow, still, had it easier with 2D, so it is a balanced situation, besides, metal slug 2 had very severe slow downs on cart also, which were solved on X so it is a comparison where the poor version of a game is compared to a port of the good one, and still manages to do it better.

A versão de Neo Geo tem slowdown por ter mais detalhes gráficos e cores que a de Playstation. Isso consome mais memória e processamento do hardware. Se o port para o Playstation fosse fiel ao original, certamente seria tão mais lento, que impossibilitaria sua criação.

por que la comparacion de 2 juegos totalmente distintos el 2 no es el X y la neo geo no tenia el mismo motor grafico que la playstation 1 es solo mi punto de vista mejor es como si compararamos GTA San andreas para Playstation 2 con el GTA San Andreas De Xbox360 no es el mismo motor grafico.. pero en este caso es Metal Slug 2 y Metal Slug X
