They have a small genre of their songs that sound like Anpanman, their ‘this is quirky and upbeat but watch the lyrics and you might doubt it’ selection. They’re always B-sides so they’re not as well known but always fun. GO GO, Attack on Bangtan, Am I Wrong, and Spinebreaker are four of my fave Anpanman adjacent songs.

Go Go is fun song attack on Bangtan they are so wild which is one of many things I love about these guys, chaotic Bangtan is the greatest, and love the choreo to am I wrong as well as the song, again a different vibe, I think he did spinebreaker if not that is are crazy chaotic guys at their best creativeness

anpanman does have choreo! but this was an extension of the love yourself tour and they dropped it for these concerts to have fun instead. there are def live performances around with the original choreography, it's very good choreo if you want to check it out

Yes, my favorite choreo for this is for Citi Music, very sweet and fun, and the voices are less processed so you can hear more of their unique characters.

i was about to say that too the choreo is amazing and it seems a lot of people first listening to the song seem to watch this performance first (so not only him, i've seen a lot do this so idk if it's army recommending this performance or what) while it's fun, it's probably not the best introduction where you want to see how the choreo is side by side with the song

Anpanman is a a comic Japanese superhero. He’s a red bean bread man Anpanman is a red bean bread man and the world’s weakest hero. He doesn’t have any superpowers like Batman or Superman, but is a kind hero who helps those in need and gives to hungry people pieces of his face, which is made out of red bean bread. If Batman and Superman are star heroes that can fly anywhere in a flash, Anpanman is a bourgeoisie hero who is always nearby and stays by your side for a long time. BTS uses the metaphor of anpanman. They’re saying “We don’t have any powers and we can’t fly, but we can give you hope and happiness through our music” It’s such a happy and upbeat song. I’m so happy I saw this live 💜 P.S: anyone remember during the ly tour when they performed this with the big jump house? Fun times lol! And it does have a choreography too, and I learned it for fun 😂

i freakin' love this song! On any given day I have one or many BTS songs stuck in my head. I've only been ARMY for a little over a year, so I'm still learning their catalog. But I cannot count the times I wake up in the morning & the first song I hear in my head is V singing "WAITING FOR YOU ANPANMAAN..." Anpanman does have a choreo, also there are songs that they perform live that have a choreo but the boys prefer to just party with the fans instead of doing a hard choreography reason for that can be because they want to party with us with that song or because of the setlist, if the setlist have many songs with diferents choreographies the boys have to choose which of the songs to dance or not to dance otherwise they can get worn out.

Anpanman is such a unique hero that it makes the song even more unique. I love that BTS can take ideas that we've heard before a million times and repackage it in a new, creative, refreshing way. We've all heard songs about wanting to help or save people but this feels so different yet so perfect for BTS. Of course they would be the sort of heroes to admit their faults, refuse to let you see them as perfect, show that they are selfless and will give of themselves to help others. It's inspiring too. It reminds us that we don't need to be anyone special or powerful or affluent to lend a helping hand to someone.

That is the beat way I have heard the duality of BTS’s magic. The music is beautiful, fun, what have you and then if you get into the meaning of the sings they are so meaningful is so many ways and they touch on such a wide range of emotions and experiences. How do they know all this stuff to draw upon? Art, literature, history... I mean they started so young and they are still not that old. They are something else.

I live in Japan, and my husband is Japanese. Not only that Anpanman is huge in Asian countries, it's especially very popular in Japan because even older generation know about it; I think even more than Disney's characters. Everyone grew up with this character in their life, from toys, videos, songs and many franchised items (e.g. snacks, stationary, clothes, bags, utensils). Anpanman (and his friends) is a selfless character, willing to sacrifice themselves to help others, and having this positive uplifting personality. These values strike a chord within Japanese communal mentality, where the goods of the many is more important than oneselves. Parents continue to introduce Anpanman character to their children as a way to teach values. I got chill thinking about it, how BTS created this song as an omage to a beloved character. Remember that iconic Anpanman performance from MAMA 2018 ? Not only J-ARMY... Everyone there and their mamas love Anpanman💜

Like you said, Anpanman gives people a part of him (his head) to save them, essentially sacrificing himself for others. The song talks about how they feel like they need to be these idols and role models, who give and give and give. And even through the hardships of essentially tearing themselves up for us, they are still willing to keep doing it because they know they help people. BTS are tearing off pieces of themselves to make us (Army) stronger. Asking for nothing in return (which isn't healthy or sustainable), just like Anpanman tears off pieces of his bean bun head to feed people, making himself weaker. Remember the lyrics saying " Keep secretly secretly getting covered in bruises, but ballin ballin still BANGTAN”. In an interview, Jimin said “Anpanman is the weakest hero in the world. He doesn’t have any supernatural power, but he’s a hero who tears off himself to give food to someone who’s hungry. We put our hearts in the song that we want to give our fans hope and energy, solely with our music and performances.”

I love live from Japan MAMA 2018, all songs that they performed at this award show were great, but Anpanman was great there, and bc it is japanese character I think japanese fans were even more excited.

Like you've pointed out, Anpanman is really unique in the BTS repertoire - its hard to find another song similar to it. Like so many have commented, the choreo is really fantastic, with so many outstanding live examples like the Japan MAMA 2018 performance. Sure this live one is fun, with them playing with the inflatables but there's plenty of those in BTS Run. Do watch another live version with proper choreo, you would definitely appreciate it more.

You nailed it about BTS that they have so much more than just a music! They are so genuine for everything they do and never stop doing their best no matter that what. This is why I fell in love with them and respect them. The only other artist I love besides BYS is IU who is another South Korean artist for the same reason and she is the idol of all idols in SK!

Another awesome reaction thanks man! When I first heard Anpanman the melody annoyed my metal sensibilities. I decided to not listen to it in favour of songs like Save me or the rapline cyphers. BUT... when an explanation vid autoplayed one day, I started bawling like a baby and now it's one of my favs. I kinda hate BTS for making me much less metal 🤘🤣 but I love that at 42 I'm opening up because of their example and maybe *gasp* softening a little 💜 and yep the live versions are so cute with the brightly coloured outfits or crazy staging like the live you watched or the comeback stage in 2018... they're dressed like kids tv presenters which totally ain't metal but totally suits idols so I'm learning to get comfy with that.
