They were individual competitors on a survival elimination show called "Phantom Singer" whose goal was to create a crossover vocal quartet like II Divo. They compete 1 v. 1, then the survivors move on to recruit for duos, then trios... and finally the Quartet. The guy 2nd from the right (Mingyu) won every round and that gave him the chance to recruit the others. Left to right Woorim - Classically trained Basso Profundo, Kang Hyungho - Rock Countertenor (zero training until he joined the group) Mingyu - Leader and Classically trained Leggiero Tenor (he and Woorim went to the same school) Doohoon - Musical Theater Actor, Baritenor They are lightning in a bottle. The show has turned out several great quartets, but none have the widespread appeal of Forestella. They continue to enter competitions, put out albums and even toured N. America last year. They intend to keep performing, but they are a man down for the next year+ as their Bass, Woorim, completes his Mandatory Military service. They have done everything from their original K-pop song, "Kool", to their new rock waltz, "Snow Globe" (which seems to be a fanciful retelling of them coming together as a team). They don't believe in genres and fear no style of song. Outstanding live performances to check out, Lazenca, Save Us (From the Space Rock Opera), Legends Never Die, Hijo de la Luna, Time in a Bottle, Je Suis Malade, Gondre Mandre (Dead Drunk), and Despacito. For an extra treat, check out Kang Hyungho's "Phantom of the Opera" audition (he sings both The Phantom and Christine's parts), or Cho Mingyu's "Balada de la Trompeta".

The basso profundo on the left of the screen is Ko Woorim, currently fulfilling his mandatory service for another 11 months apx. He's the youngest of the group at 28. Interesting fact, he's married to Queen Yuna Kim (5 yrs his senior) who is revered in Korea! She's an Olympic Champion figure skater. Very popular in Korea and elsewhere! Woorim is doing his service in the Korean Army military band. The guy on the far right whose voice you also love is the oldest of the group, Bae Doohoon, a musical theater actor and he and Woorim are both Zodiac Cancer! Then of course the 2 in the center are Kang Hyung-ho ( next to Woorim) a natural countertenor/soprano with a freakish range, no formal training. To his left is leader and classically trained leggero tenor, Cho Mingyu. I MELT every time I hear Forestella! Please react to many many more of their performances John! Warriors, Bad Romance, Legends Never Die, The Shape of You, Champions, Nella Fantasia, In Un'Ultra Vita ( in Italian) and my personal favorite, Je Suis Malade ( in French) Their genre is classical crossover. They are truly the KINGS OF HARMONY! My favorite performers are Dimash, Forestella, Adam Lambert and Jungkook ( from BTS) I love ALL music but those are my MUST HAVES. Members from left to right. Ko Woo-rim, bass profundo operatically trained. Next is Kang Hyung-Ho, tenor to soprano with no prof training. Was chemical researcher/ engineer who at 30 yrs old tried out for Phantom Singer and wowed everyone. Next is Cho Ming-yu, very special tenor. Operatic training at same university as Ko Woo-rim. He’s hysterical and leader of the group. Far right is Bae Doo-hon, the oldest member who is a musical theatre guy who’s had role of Mark in Rent (Korean), etc. All of them have solo work. FORESTELLA'S GENRE is CROSSOVER. And yes, you're right, this group is atypical and not really k-pop. Actually, they can't be categorized at all. They go different, new ways and, atypically starting from pop/rock, mix other genres including clearly accentuated classical vocals and classical techniques - and this in a very intense and creative way. Their ability to shine in every genre/style, due to their different musical backgrounds, is what makes them so unique and unbeatable.

South Korea has so many amazing musicians. I myself was drawn in by the vocals when i first listened to them.

Hope you don’t take another 6 month to react again to Forestella, because I have lost the count of time I watch your first reaction on legend never die, waiting for an other one. Finally you made it!!! Thank you. I know you are hooked on BTS ( I am an Army to) but please react to Forestella more often . And I m so happy that you re favorite is Bae Do hoon, the velvet voice, he is a musical actor and the king of emotions . He is also my favorite, even if I m big fan of each of them . Please react to more Forestella!!! 🙏🙏🙏 Their vocals are insanely phenomenal! They are probably my fav vocal group in the world - there really isn't many like them. They are considered "crossover" (not really kpop) because they can & do cover anything. I also really like how cleverly they do the arrangements on their covers - they make it their own while respecting the original (for instance Bad Romance or Shape of You). Ko Woorim (actually a classically trained bass) is my favorite - his voice is crazy deep, although they are all unique. Forestella first sang their version of Bohemian Rhapsody in the KBS Immortal Songs which is a kind of remake competition music entertainment show. It made them known to the world, and later they put it in their 2nd album titled Mystique. They had concert tour under the title Mystique. This video was filmed at the Mystique encore concert, the last of the tour. I prefer their Immortal Songs video because it shows their acting in the performance better. Here it's too dark to see it well.. I recommend Forestella Queen's best songs compilation video on KBS Jeonju channel. There are 2 more Queen renditions in addition to the very first performed Bohemian Rhapsody by Forestella.
