Like any technique there's lots of ways to force an outward swinging. This is one. Not my preferred method but close. I am a tall firefighter and I can leverage the Halligan enough with one arm and I am able to swing the are to drive the adz end in and around the door. I can see this technique a solid choice for a smaller firefighter. Of course, this is a one firefighter technique.

Why not just drive the wedge into the door and create your purchase point and slip the adz in that way…

Problem with teaching this, is you’re not telling people that the OV will not have an ax with him in the rear of a taxpayer. 95% gonna have a saw, 5% will have a maul. So this method works 5% of the time. Nothing wrong with teaching it as it’s a decent technique, but you gotta include all the facts.
