In terrible silence you stood at the world's end And crawled into the sun Blinded by the signal fires That seared your heart And the seething tongues of the lies we became I sat in Babel's tower And judged the world Said I spoke the language Of saints and sinners But preached the world was flat And slipped between the cracks In horror I strode to the world's end Saw some torn by hunger Others broken by steel But by the bitterest fortune Cursed the heathen and holy But found no relief We sat in Babel's tower And fought over the world I never spoke the language Of your saints and sinners Of men nor beast Who roamed this flat earth Liars tongues seethe in fire At the end of harsh white lines We set the world to rights Yet I awoke in the same black spirit State once again And we sat in judgement in Babel's tower

From my understanding these guys have only done one North American tour over the past few years and I know it is expensive for European bands to come over here. But how the hell have no bigger bands taken these guys out as co-headliner/direct support? I am lucky enough to have seen them at Hellfest but I would love to see them again some day. They put on one of the most energetic and passionate performances I have ever seen. They were fucking legendary and ripped the stage apart!

At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there. They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.) Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” But the Lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building. “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.” In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city. That is why the city was called Babel, because that is where the Lord confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world. Genesis 11:1-9 NLT

The lyrical content reminds me of Emanuel Swedenborg's interpretation of Babel's Tower as being a symbolic story of man moving away from genuine spirituality and inventing ritualistic and organised religion as a way for individuals to exercise control over other individuals for personal gain thereby alienating them from positive spirituality. I wonder if that is intentional. If so that is pretty sophisticated.

In my head this song is about germany when the nazi party rose to power. Like In terrible silence you stood at the world's end (after wwI germany was bancrupt and devastated) And crawled into the sun (when the people voted for the nazi party with the swastika symbol, which is an old symbol for the sun) Blinded by the signal fires That seared your heart And the seething tongues of the lies we became (nazi propaganda etc.) the rest i still gotta figure out...
