Primordial's music is also for me life-giving, often in a weird way through its darkness, but this song has something both darkly yearning and exquisitely joyful about it, a moment of almost unbearable rightness.

Who would pray to anything but the mountain And wish for anything but lightening to split the night Who would praise anything but the sun above That brings each dawn and our radiant day What man places faith in his heart Above the animal that rages deep inside What man wish forgiveness yet lies his whole life Let the animal hunt on the mountainside And let lightening split my heart in two Let me howl at the moon with desire And stretch my arms wide to embrace the sun

Who the fuck could possibly vote this down??? Primordial are everything that's RIGHT about metal. In an era where the genre has never been so completely devoid of soul and integrity, they are true artists whose every note rings with true metal spirit. If you don't like the music - fine. But honesty of effort like theirs doesn't deserve a thumbs down!!!

I have been wondering about the final two lines: "Return to the earth that bore me For there is nothing more". I can't hear them in the song but I have seen them everywhere when I google the lyrics. Is there another version of the song out there, or am I just missing something?
@jaydubz81177 жыл бұрын
often wondered the same thing
@DublinFrodo7 жыл бұрын
There is no other version, the lyrics were probably already submitted for publishing when they changed their minds and omitted those lines, or something like that.
@Bjaerke7 жыл бұрын
If you listen closely to Primordial songs printed lyrics are often other than the lyrics sung. Mostly it's just a word missing or added. Alan explained in an interview years ago that he writes the lyrics but when he sings them he feels to need change them a little bit because of emotions. He also sings the songs quite a little bit different live than on CD. Not everytime but sometimes. Nothing is hewn in stone he said in that interview and when singing it's a total emotional thing for him so that he get's carried away and doesn't want to change it afterwards because that wouldn't be authentic. One more reason to love Primordial.

One of the few bands who have consistently, year on year, album upon album, improved and improved and put out amazing work. I'll gladly buy any album they put out. In a time when I don't do blind allegiance to anything or anyone, Primordial have earned my respect and sustained support. Brilliant band.

rediscovered them about a year before "Puritan's Hand". Redesicovered because I found out I actualyl had a cassette of their Debut album a friend had sent me in the mid 90s, listed as "Prime Immortal" *rolls eyes* and didn't realize it was the same band because of how extensively they've evolved over the years. One of my favorite bands, and AA is an amazing orator, as a front man. Would love to have them come to Mexico so I could finally see them live!
